《Human Resources》Thirty

Sergeant Harvey wiped the sweat off his brow with the sleeve of his uniform. It had been a rushed job, but the explosive was tightly packed around the power cables. After inserting the contacts into the putty, he let out a long sigh of relief. Gently balancing the remote receiver on top of the board, he scooped up Tanzer’s freshly pressed uniform and made his way out of the basement.

If the remote worked, he would create a five to ten minute lapse in power before anyone could reroute the backup generators. Just enough time to smuggle the prisoners into the Underground.

In the meantime, he was on a tighter timetable. A scheduled Board meeting was to take place in twenty minutes. He had less than five to run back to the office or face a severe lecture on what it meant to be fashionably late by Tanzer.

It was a difficult business to be in, leading a double life. On the surface, he worked for a psychotic dilettante with no limit to the power he wished to usurp. Deep down, he worked as a non-commissioned operative for an equally nonsensical agency. Which was worse, he really didn’t know. But he was fairly certain his hours with Tanzer were coming to a close, and fast.
