《Human Resources》Twenty-six

Lawrence lay bleeding on the floor. The monsters had taken a break from their vicious torture to sit back and make out, covered in the carnage. As he writhed to get up onto his elbows, Joe’s face flashed before his eyes. He shook his head to rid himself of the vision. Things were bad enough as it was; he just wanted the end to come. Still the angry face stared back at him.
“You sold me? I’m not a damn commodity here, Simon Lawrence.” He shuddered as he breathed the words through the wound in his throat. “A fellow human being, but what’s that for a few more credits, eh?” Tears streamed down his face as the scene played out in his head. The late night body theft. The chases. The escapes.
The monsters paused from their love-in session to look at him. “What’s wrong, son? Are you ready to give up yet, or does Daddy’s little boy need another beating?”
“First thing we’re going to do, you and I, is go to Human Resources and sort this thing out.” He ground the words out through his wheezing. “Don’t think you’re getting away with this!” Lawrence turned a bloody eye to the Daddy-beast and grinned, confidence rising. “You bastards!”
The creature advanced, but Lawrence held out a prohibitive bloody hand. It froze, staring at him. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“What I should have done the second I got here, Daddy.” He struggled over to the chair by the table and steadied himself. He leaned back against the countertop and gestured violently toward the monsters, spattering them with the blood from his wounds. “I do not wish to receive details of offers and promotions from VirCorp!”
The creatures shrieked in pain, covering their ears. The carnage began to sizzle on their flesh and they danced in anguish.

Simon gestured again in sound exorcist fashion. “I do not wish to receive details of offers and promotions from the business partners of VirCorp!”
The creatures howled, sinking down as they began to melt into the flooring. The kitchen started to dissolve around them.
Simon thrust his hand out once more with every ounce of strength he had left in him. “I do not wish to receive details of offers and promotions from any one or any thing affiliated with VirCorp! Now damn it let me go!”
The world went white around him as he collapsed. He stared into the light and closed his eyes. Through the exhaustion, it was not long before sleep came.

8 214Placebo Effect
It’s was the end of the world and to be honest from what I’ve heard, life wasn’t too different to the world I know today… Besides the fact that we live online, obviously. I’m still in cyber debt, life from what I hear still sucks as much as it did back then, but maybe, just maybe I can scratch beneath the surface of this disillusioned world and disconnect universally; I might have a chance to experience true life in its purest form.
