"Merlin don't you dare walk away. You already took away my humanity so at least do me one favor and tell me how. Tell me how to get this armor off. Please." Jim growled at the old man. Merlin sighed.
"Alright fine. All you half to do is let your instincts take over. Let the armor do the rest."
"That's it?" Jim asked.
"That's it." Merlin confirmed.
"See that wasn't that hard to answer. Was it?"
Merlin rolled his eyes and walked away without an answer.
"Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Claire said coming out of the tent.
"How much of that did you hear?" Jim asked.
"All of it." Claire answered fixing a hair clip. Jim sighed a bit embarrassed. "I'm going into town today. I mean... if you wanna come you can. Just try and avoid your instincts. Maybe?"
Jim paused. She was joking right? Plus he was exhausted. He was going to sleep all day today while Claire bought supplies. It was probably around 10 Am today.
"I don't know Claire. I don't think I can afford a screw up like that again."
She nodded.
"Once you get back we should get going again. It's risky enough being here for so long." Jim added.
She nodded and stood on her tippy toes. Claire wrapped her arms around Jim's neck and placed a peck on his cheek.
"What was that for?" Jim asked blown away.
She shrugged. "I just thought you might need it."
Jim smiled. "Don't get into too much trouble."
"You too mister. Get some sleep." They hugged once more before Claire walked off.

Jim was dead asleep in the tent. He had his sleeping bag over his head. It was as peaceful it could get before his phone rang. Jim growled and his eyes flashed open. He pulled the sleeping bag over his head with another growl, and snatched the phone. It was probably Claire.

"Hello?" He answered groggily.
"Oh Jim! Honey!" It was his mom. And all the sudden his sleepiness flew away.
"Mom?"
"Where you asleep?" She asked.
"Yea but-"
"I can call you back again another time if that's okay. Sorry to wake you."
"Oh no mom you okay. It's fine. What's up?"
"Nothing really. Just trying to fix Arcadia that's all." Jim frowned.
"So how is everything?" Jim asked.
"Well we got the baby's from the dark lands to a new family and-"
"That's great news mom. I mean it. But I am talking about you. How is everything with you?"
There was a short pause.
"It's been okay Jim. It's okay. I'm hanging in there. What about you?"
He sighed.
"I don't know. I don't know mom. It's been difficult." Jim paused as he herd sniffling on the other end. "Mom are you crying?"
"No Jim honey I'm okay."
She was lying. He knew it. And it left another question in his mind. Did he really make the right choice of turning into a troll?
"Jim I should go. It's been a long day here. And I am sure it has been twice as long for you."
"Alright mom I love you."
"I love you too. Don't forget to text often."
Jim's eyes teared up.
"I won't mom."
And it was her that hung up. Well Jim was awake now. He might as well go and try to find Claire while his time here lasted. He tabbed the glamour mask. Jim got out of the sleeping bag and then exited the tent. Trolls build tarps around the trees to protect them from the sun.
Jim carefully maneuvered his way around the sleeping trolls until he finally reached a clearing. Jim sighed and began to leave the camp ground.
He placed the glamor mask on and concentrated on his new look. He can't go around here looking like his old self after his big exposure. He imagined a teen with brown hair and green eyes. Good enough. Jim had on jeans, checkered shoes, and a black jacket. Then he pulled out his phone and texted Claire where she was at. Once she responded, he left and ran to meet up with Claire.

Death By Protagonist
Donavan has made his living by wading through hundreds of stories in search of the quality few he and his firm believe to be worth publishing. After a strange twist of fate, he gets trapped inside the fantasy book of a particularly campy and amateur author. There he will have to navigate a world built on wish fulfillment, power fantasies, and fanservice in order to fix the story from the inside out if he ever wishes to leave. But can he bring himself to play the many roles necessary to manipulate and guide the characters to a satisfying conclusion? Authors Note: Death By Protagonist is meant to be simultaneously a satire of, and love letter to the isekai/portal fantasy genre. It both makes fun of and embraces many tropes of the genre such as harems, explicit sexual content, OP protagonists, and other things many people might think of as "trashy." If that doesn't sound like your thing, you've been warned, but I hope you'll give it a shot anyway. Update Schedule: Plan is to at least put out one new chapter every week, hopefully two.

Join him on his adventures as he must deal with menus, monsters, and mysteries in this litrpg fantasy. Thomas Goodwill was an average boy with an average life, all that changed when he woke up in a new reality. Now, out of his depth, damn near out of his mind, he must learn to survive in a game-like reality with no reloads, checkpoints, or save scumming. He does, however, have a drunk snake. Thank you for reading my first story, hopefully, the first of many to come. This will be my main story and is meant to help me practice and hone my skills as I slowly produce more complex ideas. It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.
