《The Unknown》Student handbook

Lisa's pov
Finally, the last class of the day. It hasn't been a great day having to sit through all my classes on a very sore behind. Shane's punishment certainly left a lasting impression and it's all thanks to this guy. I skate into Mr. Kemp's class just after the bell. Shit, I'm late again and I already have an after school detention with this jackass today.
"You're late, Lisa, and you have a referral to the dean's office," Mr. Kemp says, handing me the green referral sheet.
"You want me to go now?" I ask.
"Yes, Lisa, Dean Banfeld is expecting you."
I roll my eyes at Mr. Kemp and exhale loudly as I exit his class and head down to Dean Banfeld's office. I decide to take my time as I'm in no rush to have Dean Banfeld punish me. I stop at my locker, the bathroom, and the water fountain. I take the longest possible path to get there. After wasting fourteen minutes en route, I finally arrive at his office. I hand the secretary my referral slip and gingerly take a seat outside his office as I wait for him to call me in.
Approximately six minutes later, he ushers me into his office. I enter slowly. Dean Banfeld scares me. He's really intimidating and Julie and Stacey have both told me he paddles extremely hard.
"Sit down, Lisa," he says coldly, as he reads my referral slip.
Hopefully he didn't notice me wince as I take my seat across from his desk.
"According to Mr. Kemp, you've been late to his class three times and you were disrespectful. Is this accurate?"
Technically I've been late four times counting today but Mr. Kemp had my referral typed up before I even got to class so Dean Banfeld doesn't need to know that. Fuck, I know he's going to paddle me and it's going to hurt like hell on my recently belted behind.
"Yes sir," I reply timidly.
"Do you know what the punishment is for three tardies and disrespecting a teacher, Lisa?"
"No sir."
"You should, Lisa, because that information is in the student handbook you received on the first day of school. The same handbook you acknowledged receiving and reading with your signature on the second day of school."
Dean Banfeld slaps a copy of the student handbook on his desk in front of me.
"Read the third, fourth and eighth paragraphs on page twelve aloud please, Lisa."

"TARDIES: 1st offense: Warning. 2nd offense: after school detention. 3rd and any subsequent offenses: corporal punishment ten strokes. Tardy defined as arriving to class after class time has begun up to ten minutes into class. If arrival is after the first ten minutes, student will be considered absent.
DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR: Failing to follow classroom rules and/or disrupting the educational environment: 1st Offense: Detention; 2nd and/or subsequent offenses: corporal punishment at the discretion of the dean.
CORPORAL PUNISHMENT: Corporal Punishment may only be given to a student who has a "Parental Consent to Administer Corporal Punishment" form signed by the student's parent/guardian on file in the dean's office. Swats will be given by the dean or other faculty in a school office. The swats will be given with reasonable force with a wooden paddle on the buttocks of the student."
I gulp upon finishing my reading assignment and look up at Dean Banfeld with pleading eyes.
Dean Banfeld in response opens his bottom desk drawer and removes a very unforgiving sturdy wooden paddle, not as fierce as Dr. Curtis's paddle but still quite intimidating.
"You're receiving twenty strokes with the paddle, Lisa, for tardiness and disruptive behavior. Bend over my desk and assume the position."
Despite my best intentions to display a brave front, the tears welling in my eyes betray me. I'm scared to death of how painful this paddling will be, especially on top of the punishment Shane doled out last night.
Sensing my trepidation, Dean Banfeld gently places his left hand on my back as I bend over his desk.
"I know this is your first time being paddled in my office, Lisa, and you're probably quite nervous now, anticipating your punishment. There are three conditions you need to understand before I begin. One, your recent behavior has warranted this discipline. Two, for your own safety you will remain in position bent over the desk, arms outstretched in front of you with palms facing down and legs straight, feet on the floor for the entirety of your punishment. Failure to do so will be construed as refusal to accept discipline and will result in immediate suspension. Three, I'm not a cruel man. I never discipline out of anger and I will never administer more punishment than you can tolerate. Do you understand these three conditions I've outlined for you, Lisa?"
"Yes sir, I understand." Even though this punishment will be painful, I now know that Dean Banfeld won't be cruel or excessive in his discipline and that helps put my mind at ease.

"Alright, Lisa, I'm ready to begin."
I inhale sharply in anticipation of the first stroke. I hear the whoosh of the paddle before I feel the swat connect harshly with my behind.
SMACK.
I wince at the pain the paddle brings upon my bottom which is still red and sore from the belting I received yesterday.
SMACK SMACK SMACK.
I bite my tongue to keep from vocalizing my discomfort.
SMACK SMACK SMACK
I try to manipulate my breathing to distract me from the burning pain on my backside as those previous three strokes hit a spot on my behind already bruised by Shane's belt.
SMACK SMACK SMACK
It's not working. I start to shift uncomfortably without moving out of position so Dean Banfeld doesn't stop the paddling and suspend me.
SMACK SMACK SMACK
I can't prevent an angry hiss from escaping my lips as those last three strokes hit the crease between buttock and thigh. Dean Banfeld gently and reassuringly pats my back with his left hand before continuing.
SMACK SMACK SMACK
It hurts so bad. As I shift uncomfortably again, I can feel the back of my shirt ride up a little underneath Dean Banfeld's left hand. I hear him breathe in sharply and feel his body tense up.
Dean Banfeld's pov
As Lisa shifts position, I see a red welt revealed on her lower back as her shirt rides up a few inches above her waist. I immediately tense up with anger. I know that mark isn't from the paddle. It most likely was from a belt. I know Shane and Mike use spanking as a disciplinary tool, that's not why I am upset. I'm angry because I have a sinking feeling I'm partly responsible for the most recent punishment Lisa most likely received from Admiral Donovan.
I quickly deliver the last four strokes of Lisa's paddling so I can confirm my suspicions.
SMACK SMACK SMACK SMACK
"You may stand now, Lisa, your punishment is over." I feel a pang of remorse seeing the tears run down her cheeks, knowing this paddling on top of a spanking must have been extremely painful for her. I'm proud of how well she handled it. "Lisa, you may get a hall pass from the secretary and take a five minute bathroom break before you head back to class."
"Thank you, sir," she says, sniffling and rubbing her bottom as her breath hitches.
As soon as she leaves my office, I buzz my secretary.
"Pamela, I want Dick Kemp in my office the minute his class ends." I want to have a word with that son of a bitch, several words actually.
"I'll let him know, sir," Pamela replies. A few minutes later, she buzzes back. "Mr. Kemp says he has a student in detention after class, sir, but he'll come straight down afterwards."
"Thank you, Pamela."
About an hour later, she buzzes me that Dick Kemp is here.
"Send him in."
"What's going on, Jim? Why did you summon me to your office?" Dick asks.
I close my office door after informing Pamela I don't want to be disturbed.
"YOU KNOW DAMN WELL WHAT THIS IS ABOUT, DICK!"
"What are you so upset about, Jim?"
"HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME PLAY THE BAD GUY AGAIN! You stood here just yesterday asking me for information on the guardian of two of your students. One of whom, you sent to my office today with a referral. After I told you how strict Admiral Donovan is with the girls because of his military background, you made sure to call him and inform him of everything you wrote on Lisa's referral, knowing damn well he would punish her severely. Didn't you? Then you send her to me the next day to be paddled for the same infractions. WHAT KIND OF A MONSTER ARE YOU? YOU SADISTIC SON OF A BITCH."
I'm so furious at him right now for using the information I gave him about Admiral Donovan against me. He purposefully did this to piss me off. He knows I voted against him attaining tenure. That prick wanted to upset me and he used an innocent child in the process. I would love to see his sorry ass get fired but that's not going to happen unless his bid for tenure is turned down.
"I was simply keeping the lines of communication open with the guardian of one of my students. I believe that's part of my job, Jim. You're not seriously suggesting a guardian doesn't have the right to know about his charge's behavior, are you?"
I would love to wipe that smug grin off his fucking, pompous face but I know he'd have me arrested for battery.
"Don't you ever pull a stunt like that again you spineless coward. Do you understand me?"
"Relax, Jim, it's not that big of a deal."
"GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY OFFICE!" GODDAMN, I cannot stomach that man! I'm going to see to it that asshole gets fired, if it's the last thing I do.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

But what happens when Sage shows up at her doorsteps in the middle of the night, bruised and bloody?***"Sage?" whispered Solace in utter shock. He smirked at her as he leaned against the doorframe, looking her up and down from her blue penguin pajamas to her oversized t-shirt until he met her eyes. She felt a rush of emotions when she heard his voice after six months. It was the same: deep, unbothered, and familiar. "Solace Laurent, I need your help."
