《Daddy Unknown》Chapter 44

All their loved ones surrounded the table; singing and watching Ollie with amused smiled as he tried to make an early start on consuming the cake. Moira would've let him if it weren't for the burning candles atop of it.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Harraël and Ollie... Happy birthday to you!"

Finally, they were done singing. Ollie was seated in his high-chair and the first to burst into spontaneous applause, which was followed by roars of laughter and more claps.

"Make a wish, bud." Harry told him as he blew out the candles for the both of them, meanwhile his fiancé was clicking away on the over-the-top camera he'd gotten her for Christmas.

Loud cheers resounded through the living room as the smoke of the anguished candles rose in the air. Harry watched the slender clouds of white dissolve into nothing and realized that for first time in his life, he'd wished for nothing. But why would he? When he already had everything he could wish for?

Next up were the presents, and like expected; Ollie was spoiled rotten. His parents alone had gifted him with all a 1-year-old could want. And luckily for him, he also had two doting grandmothers, a loving auntie and four rockstar uncles.

All was well with Bones, the five of them were once again united and going strong. They hadn't announced the happy news to the public yet, wanting to enjoy some peace and quiet while they still could. But they would soon, as well as release a new single; 'Moira'.

Cheesy, but effective.

Harraël's presents were somewhat more modest. A couple of vintage EP's from Lizzy, Calvin Klein cologne from his mum and a leather weekend-bag from Emelia. Moira had gotten him a Beagle puppy whom he ironically named 'Fox'. Last but not least, his four best friends had bought him -or rather them- a 'family car' together. A slick, grey Porsche Panamera.

After everyone had exchanged their presents, it was time for Harry's gift to his soon-to-be-wife and his son.

"As you all might know, Moira and I are getting married next summer.."

That provoked another round of applause.

"And so I thought this would be appropriate," he said, as he handed a plain white envelope to Moira -who shot him a questioning look in return.

Soundlessly, she opened the envelope as every pair of eyes in the room were glued to her, equally as curious as she was to the contents.

"Oh my god." Her voice broke as she finished reading the letter, and she covered her mouth, the tears pricking at her eyes almost instantly.

Harry held his breath as he watched the radiance cover her face. It transformed her into a breathless picture of a delightful cherub. He longed to wrap her in his arms and draw some of the positive energy that flew from her body.

Her lips sank into a broad, toothy smile as her head swung sharply to his. "Oh gosh, Harry."

"Is it okay?"

Nearly jumping onto his lap, she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck and continued to bury her face into the crook of his neck as she heaved a shaky sigh, followed by a sob.

"It's more than okay, it's perfect. Everything's perfect. I love you with every fibre of my body. Yo-you m-make me so h-happy." She cried, and Harry laughed tenderly, cupping her cheeks as he wiped the tears, readying her for an onslaught of his kisses.

This was exactly the kind of reaction he'd been hoping for, the happy, ecstatic kind. Moira was unpredictable, after all. She could've been livid, or worse than that. Which wouldn't have been completely unreasonable, since he'd taken care of it all without consulting her.

Shamelessly, Harry pressed his lips to hers, confessing his love for her in quiet whispers. Meanwhile, their guests watched on. Almost bursting with anticipation.

Cassie was the first to break the silence. "What? What is it??" she exclaimed, unable to withhold her curiosity any longer.

Moira slid the letter over the table, towards her. "Harry changed Ollie's surname from King to Stones."

As soon as she said this, she realized something and swiftly turned her head to Harry, playfully slapping his shoulder. "That's what all those secretive calls were about!"

He brought his hands up, "You caught me."

March arrived with surprisingly little rain. Pleasantly warm rays of sunshine illuminated the dining area as Moira set a plate of mixed fruits out before Ollie.

"Here you go," she cooed to him, as she went off to fill him up a drink, deciding on giving him some juice.

She had barely slept last night, for reasons she did not deem appropriate to think of in the company of her son. She put on a tired but bright smile as she walked back to him. To her dismay, he had yet to take his attention from their newest addition to the family; Fox. The two were practically inseparable, which was absolutely adorable and heart-warming at times. But not when they both needed to nap, Harry had to take the puppy for a walk or when -like now- one of them had to eat.

Ollie's wide, green eyes were watching Fox intently, his wide, baby cheeks flushed from her trying to teach him how to walk earlier. He still stumbled here and there, though Moira could see that his legs were getting stronger by each and every day. This was the sole reason why she really, really wanted to have him drink milk, but they didn't have any right now. Because his unhygienic daddy would drink an entire carton in just a few hours, straight from the opening.

"I want you to eat, okay?" She said, pointing to the food. She glanced back at the clock-hoping Harry would be back soon. So he could take Fox another room or something and Ollie would finally eat an entire bite of fruit without being distracted every other second. She sighed before tucking a dark curl behind his ear, "Please eat for me? Here, let Mommy help you."

Airplane style, she tried to get him to eat a strawberry, or even to open his mouth -to no avail. His eyes were solely focused on the little puppy beside the high chair. Who was watching him with as much interest.

"I'm home!" Harry announced his return, followed by the slamming of the front door.

Moira dropped the plastic spoon with a defeated sigh as Harry kissed Ollie's chubby cheek, her lips and eventually, the top of Fox's head.

"Oh thank god you're back, can you take Fox to the music room for a while?" she asked, rubbing her forehead. "Ollie won't eat."

Harry nodded in agreement, sweeping the little pup off of his paws, but as soon as he was out of sight, Ollie started to wail. His face twisted, and his mouth opened to let out a disagreeing scream. His little legs kicked against the seat, his arms flailing, trying to reach for his beloved friend. Moira hated seeing him like this; she felt like some kind of bully. But he was a growing boy, and he needed to eat.

"Go on, baby, eat," Moira urged over his wailing, momentarily stroking his cheeks to rid of the tears. He only continued to wail, his voice going right through her, his emerald eyes now a bright red from crying. Tears were streaming down his face, and he was searching aimlessly for his furry friend.

"Shh," She said, reaching forward to dab at his small cheeks with a napkin to dry his tears. "Don't cry, baby boy, okay? I just want you to eat. The sooner you eat, the sooner you get Foxy back." She put on a smile, knowing he didn't understand a word she said. She picked up the spoon and shovelled a good amount of fruits pieces, holding it up so he could see it.

"Open your mouth," She instructed gently. His mouth technically was open, but she wasn't going to dump food in it while he was full-on screaming right now.

"Is it working?" Harry screamed from the door of the music room.

"Not even in the slightest. You bring him back if he's too much of a fuss."

Seconds later, the sound of running paws resounded through the dining area, as well as an overjoyed bark, and Ollie immediately stopped crying. He studied Fox in content, clumsily clapping his hands, his body stilling after he finally got back what he wanted. Moira knew he was a stubborn boy; he wouldn't stop fighting until he got what he wanted.

"I'll feed you later," She muttered, pulling him out of the chair and set him in his play cot, that was situated in one of the corners of the living room, right next to the window. She pulled the bars up and ran a hand through his mop of curly hair, that was so alike his father's.

Fox's tail was enthusiastically moving from side to side as he watched his boss lady, a hopeful glint in his eyes -or had she imagined it?

"Alright then, you little bugger." Moira said as she picked him up and placed him beside Ollie, making a mental note to get rid of the excess dog hair later -that would surely stick to the play cot's cushions.

Ollie giggled, rolling so he was holding up his foot, his hand holding it up. His green eyes were bubbly again as he stared up at his mother, and like many times before, Moira couldn't leave him. She beamed down at her little ray of sunshine, unable to just leave him there when he looked so happy.

Harry crouched down beside her, pressing a quick peck to her temple as they watched their little boy and puppy together. When presenting her fiancé with this little ball of fluff a few weeks ago, she would've never thought Ollie would be the one to get attached the most. As usual, she was proved wrong.

"How were the guys?"

"Ya know, the usual. The single release is tomorrow at 3pm."

"Can't wait, I'm so excited!" she shot him a small smile.

He cast her a sceptical glance. "Are you?"

Moira shrugged. "A little scared as well, I suppose."

"That's understandable though, babe. I'm officially introducing you as my fiancé and the mother of our son, millions of people will judge you."

"Gee, that's so comforting."

"Alright so I probably should've worded that differently. But all jokes aside, it's okay to be scared. I know I'd be."

She giggled, "The high and mighty rockstar would be scared?"

"Totes, bae."

Hiding he face in his baggy sweater, to muffle the stream of laughter that escaped her lips. Harry wrapped an arm around her as a smile of his own appeared.

"Just remember that I'll be here throughout it all, you're not alone. And the boys will support you through thick and thin, you know that." He murmured against her ear. "Not much will change, hopefully."

She nodded wordlessly and laid her head down on his shoulder.

What she didn't expect was the loud stinging slap as he playfully swatted her butt. She shrieked, jumping 10 feet in the air before she spun around and glared at him, her cheeks flaming red.

"Harry!" she squeaked, her voice coming out rather high pitched.

"Moira!" he mimicked, giving her a cheeky grin.

Distracted by the sudden commotion, Ollie's focus was pulled from the puppy and towards his parents.

Seeing their baby boy watch them with those startling, mischievous eyes of his, Moira slipped a hand through the bars of the play cot. She cupped one of Ollie's cheeks and caressed his baby soft skin with her thumb. But when she tried to pull away, Ollie exclaimed a squeal of protest.

As if instantly missing his mother's loving touch, his little hand went reaching for one of her fingers. And as he held it up, he happily declared the first coherent word he had ever spoken:

"Momma."
