《Daddy Unknown》Chapter 13 Part 1

Moira was making her way home after buying herself a lifelong supply of chocolate. The hormones were taking control again, forcing her to cry half of the time and to want to cry the other half.
She came to a dead halt when seeing a group of people surrounding someone all too familiar. She could tell that they were giggling at something he said, and he was leaning back against the wall, arms crossed loosely over his chest as he listened attentively to something the brunette in front of him said. She was shocked to see him out here on the streets with so many people surrounding him. It took her a minute to realize they were probably fans, his band was quite popular after all. Right, how could she forget.
He bend down to talk to a little girl, making her giggle as he tickled her tummy and said something inaudible. In reply, her tiny hands reached to squeeze his cheek. He feigned shock, his lips sinking into a big 'O' causing the girl to giggle even louder. The sound of it as cute as it could get.
Moira watched in amazement, she knew he liked kids but not that he was actually good with them as well. Ollie seemed to agree as he enthusiastically kicked his mother from inside her belly.
Her breath hitched in her throat when his dark jade eyes met hers, and his dimpled grin paused upon noticing her lone figure, and for some reason, she didn't turn and walk away like she should. She just stood there, staring back at him. It almost felt like one of those moments in the movies; it was something so cliché yet it was something so real.
Turn away! her mind screamed. What are you doing? Don't just stand there - get the hell out of there! But she didn't.
And Harraël mumbled something to the little girl and the rest of his admirers, subtly excusing himself, and her legs felt suddenly numb when he started making his way towards her. She didn't know why she felt suddenly so very nervous the closer he got. She guessed it was because she didn't know what she was going to say to him. What could she say?
"Moira," He broke through her nervous thoughts with a hesitant yet easy-going grin, stopping a good few feet in front of her.
"Hi," She whispered.
He nibbled on the inside of his cheek, his eyes quickly glancing over her. "You look beautiful."
For some reason, she felt her cheeks flush under his compliment. Why? She hadn't got a clue. All she wore for that day was leather leggings, a grey jumper, brogues and a jacket and beanie to keep her warm from the frosty weather - it was nothing too flashy or special. Her massive baby bump didn't make her look any better. Yet Harraël looked at her like she was a prized jewel, his eyes evidently yearning for her. It made her feel warm inside as well as uncomfortable; he'd never looked at her this way. Or she'd never noticed.

"Uhh you look nice, too." She replied quietly. The sound of a busy New York City surrounding them, loud sirens being heard in the distance.
Harraël shoved his hands in his pockets. "Have you had a nice Christmas?"
"Yes, I spent it with my mom, just hanging around, eating, you know the drill." She answered with a nod of her head. God, why did she feel so awkward? The sirens were getting closer to them, she let out a deep sigh and took a step towards Harraël so he could hear her better over the noise. "How about y- "
But he only stepped closer, bending his head and said, "What? Sorry, I couldn't hear you."
"How about you? Did you have a jolly Christmas?" She said louder, craning her neck so she could talk into his ear. She had to stand on her toes a bit due to his tall height.
"I did! Yes!" He pulled away to grin down at her, an actual boyish, genuine smile. A sight she'd missed seeing. "I spent Christmas Eve with the boys and I went over to my mum's place for Boxing day. Lizzy and Bella were there as well."
"Who're Bella and Lizzy?" She asked curiously.
"Lizzy's my sister and Bella is my niece, I told you about them before I think."
"Oh, uhh yeah sorry I'm not very good with names." She said.
He chuckled huskily at that, shaking his head slightly as they drifted off into a comfortable silence. Then she said quickly, "I didn't come here because I followed you or something. It was pure coincidence I saw you, I swear."
His smile faltered. "It's alright. I'm glad I found you."
Her eyes turned serious. "You are?"
"Yeah. I've missed you." He breathed.
Staring up at him, it dawned upon her that maybe, possibly he didn't pity her? Perhaps he'd actually missed her. She hated the fact. The whole process of distancing herself from him would've been so much easier if he weren't such a genuinely good person.
"I've missed you, too," She replied quietly, taking another step to where their chests almost touched. His eyes were peering down at hers with such a sudden intensity that they made her freeze. She could see his emotions, feel his longing.
"I-I've missed you so much. I haven't been able to get you off my mind. I can't help how I feel about you." He nervously ran a finger through his curly tresses, and she couldn't help but chuckle. He was nervous? He wasn't nervous in front of that group of people earlier, but he was nervous in front of her?
"Harry," She sighed. "I don't want anything more than friendship with you, not with Ollie on the way-"
"Yes, of course!" He said quickly. "I didn't expect you to jump into a relationship with me after last time. There's just something between us, I can feel it. And I was so caught up in the moment that I kissed you, but if you're not ready to be with me I guess we can stay friends..." He trailed off suddenly, his voice emotional now. She couldn't believe how emotional he had gotten, and how quickly his voice was tripping over itself.

She reached out and grabbed a hold of his wrist, silencing him and seizing his attention again. "Do you understand my point though? I'm going to be a mother, Harry."
"I guess so." He mumbled, but she knew he wished she hadn't had said that.
"But," She licked my lips, "I would like to start over."
His eyes froze. "Start...over?"
She smiled softly and nodded. "Yes. Start over, as friends." And before she could even re-think what she was doing, she spit out something she might regret later. "We could start everything over, and build off from there."
A slow, relieved smile stretched upon his lips at her words. His shoulders literally relaxed, and Harraël murmured, "I would love to start over."
"Great. Cool." Their serious mode completely broke through, and she turned and began walking with him following her stride. They moved with a small distance between them, yet Moira could feel warm inside. It was good to have him back, surprisingly, she felt relieved. Relieved that he hadn't dumped even though that would have probably been better for the both of them.
They stayed silent for a few moments.
"So," he started, "what's in the plastic bag?"
"Chocolate." She replied, casually.
"Having pregnancy cravings?"
"Dude, I bought twenty bars of chocolate. Hell yeah, pregnancy cravings."
He chuckled. "As a friend, I ought to help devour it all."
Rolling her eyes, she snorted. "I didn't expect anything less."
They started talking about random things; they laughed and smiled a lot. And in these past few weeks, Moira truthfully couldn't remember a time when she felt so relaxed. It was amazing at how a few cheeky words from Harry could change her mood so drastically.
Blame it on the hormones.
* * * * * * * *
"..and then she kicked me in the nuts."
"That must have been pleasant."
They were at Moira's place. Eating the chocolate -as promised- and catching up. Currently talking about Christmas and other things they'd missed out on these past few weeks; .
"Lizzy was so pissed, you wouldn't believe. Scolding her 5-year-old daughter not to rob her uncle from the possibility of having babies."
"What did Bella say?" Moira asked, barely able to hold in her laughter.
"She apologized. But only for the sake of her mother, judging by that mischievous face of hers."
"Ahh, a girl after my own heart. I'd love to meet her one day."
Harraël quirked an eyebrow. "On who's side are you? And you will, she's staying with me in a week, Lizzy's going on a business trip."
"I'm looking forward to it!" She squeezed his cheek playfully. "And I'm on your side, silly billy!"
He had a tender smile on his face as she did this. But just before Moira could take back her hand, he grabbed a hold onto it and pushed it back against his cheek, leaning into her touch. His hand was much larger than hers, the rough skin of it cupping her own.
"Harry.."
He seemed to realize what he was doing "Oh right, sorry. I forgot. Your hand is just a little cold, I was trying to warm it up."
"Oh well in that case-"
"Here, give them to me." He interrupted her, taking his chance and grabbing her hands. He rubbed her small hands with his large ones and occasionally blew into them for extra warmth. He would even place tiny kisses on the knuckles every now and then. After a while, her hands were warm and to normal body temperature.
"Better?" He asked, kissing them once more before letting go.
"Yes, Harry. Thank you." She said, slightly blushing and feeling a little confused.
She didn't know whether to feel angry or not. Since she'd just, literally just told him she wanted to be friends and nothing else, and here he was. Casually kissing her skin. And she let him. The real question was: why did she let him do that?
She chose not to mention it. But instantly regretted it as she heard what he asked next.
"Anything else that's cold?" He started leaning closer. "Possibly, your lips...?"
His face was now inches from Moira's, and she didn't know what the hell to do. In her panic, she grabbed a glass of water and emptied it on his head.
He flinched away, eyes wide, their green color more prominent than ever, and he immediately frowned at her. "What?!"
"I'm sorry! I panicked!"
Furiously wiping his wet hair away from his face, he protested. "You didn't have to throw fúcking water all over me!"
"Wait, no, I'm not sorry." She corrected herself sharply, her hands tightening into fists. "You tried to kiss me, you asshole! A few hours after we agreed to be friends."
"It was your idea to be friends, not mine!"
"You agreed!" She insisted as a frown etched itself into her forehead.
His face softened at the expression gracing her face and placed a finger against her frowning lines. "Please try not to frown, sweetheart." He said quietly.
"We're having a discussion, don't distract me!"
"I love it when you act so bossy." He grinned cheekily and she became enraptured by his grin for a second.
"I mean it!" She told him sternly with a pointed finger. "Stop it!"
Sighing deeply, Harraël sat back in surrender. Still in his soaked clothes and surely wetting the couch. "Let's not argue, alright? It's bad for the baby."
He did have a point there, she could feel the stress settling in her stomach. Making her feel uneasy.
Damn you, Harry.
She couldn't believe he had already upset her. Had she made a mistake by letting her wall down a little?
"I'm sorry, I went too far. I should know your limits by now."
Nodding, she accepted his apology.
