《LOVELESS》Chapter 33

Yemi finishes moisturizing her skin with her leg propped up on the bathroom sink. She brings her leg down and immediately feels the soreness. "I really need to work out," she says to herself, slightly chuckling at what occurred last night. It was her first time going down on someone, and she doesn't regret it one bit.

She flips the front of her Butterfly Locs and reaches over to the end of the counter, grabbing the large Ziploc bag full of hair accessories. She pulls a bobby pin out and sticks it in her hair, securing the locs to one side. She smiles in the mirror loving how quick and easy it is to style it. Grateful that Veronica took her to a hairstylist in the Bronx yesterday as a Christmas gift.

One thing Yemi has learned from staying in the hotel with Sam this past week is that there is no way she can manage her natural hair properly with the amount of sex they have. It was a headache combing and flat ironing it, and she knew it wasn't healthy to apply excessive heat in her hair every day.

Taking one last look at her hair, she applies gloss on her lips before grabbing the bathrobe off the door's hook and slipping it on. She heads to the bedroom closet and skims through her hanging clothes. She sighs, not sure what to wear on this special day.

"Sammie!" She calls out for him.

"What's up?" Eyes glued to the email he's drafting.

"What are you wearing?"

He glances at his sweater, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "What?"

"What are you wearing? I wanna match you."

He looks towards the bathroom and chuckles softly. "Come look."

"Huh?!"

"Come out here and look."

"...Here I come." Yemi slips on her panties before walking out of the room. She picks up the unlit candles off the floor on her way to Sam. "Hopefully you didn't get too dressed up, because I don't think I-" She stops in her tracks and gasps when she reaches the living area. Sam observes her face, smiling at her shocked expression.

Yemi glances at all the gifts and the tree before a smile forms on her face. "Babyyyyyy."

"Merry Christmas, ma." He puts his phone on the side table before standing up.

Yemi embraces his neck tightly. "Mamas, you're cutting off my circulation," he says in between laughs. Yemi loosens her grip before holding his face and looking deep into his eyes.

"All of these are for me?"

He nods. "Since you won't let me spoil you any other day, I figured I can get away with it on Christmas."

"I won't fight that," she says, grinning.

She smashes her lips on his before separating their bodies.

"Open the biggest one first."

"Okay." She picks up the biggest present and sits next to Sam. "Wait, did you take a picture of this set up?"

He picks his phone up and opens the camera. "Kneel down in front of the tree."

And she does just that. Looking like a kid opening up her new toy on Christmas morning. Sam chuckles and takes the picture. "You're something else."

"Whaaat?" She asks innocently. She grabs his phone and sits on his lap, positioning the phone for a selfie. "This'll be our first picture together." She holds the gift up with her other hand, making sure it's in the frame. Sam nibbles on her ear as Yemi snaps the photo. "Aww." She shows it to him. "You like it?"

"... I love it."

Sam smiles into Yemi's kiss, enjoying her joyful spirit.

Veronica is at her cousin, Stephen's house in New Jersey, helping him and his wife Amina set up for Christmas dinner. Stephen's two boys are rolling around on scooters around the house.

"What I tell y'all about playing in here?"

"Sorry dad," they both say in unison. "Can we go outside?" The older one asks.

"I'll take y'all after I'm done seasoning this meat."

"You want me to take them? I'm done setting up here," Veronica asks, walking away from the dinner table.

"Please!" Stephen responds in relief, causing Veronica to laugh. "Shit, V, you just don't know how much their momma got them acting crazy. It's like I have to reprogram them every time I leave them alone with her."

"I heard that Stephen!" Amina shouts out from another room.

Stephen mouths "so" to Veronica.

She chuckles. "I got you cousin." She walks away towards the front door. "Who wants to go outside?!"

"Meeee!" The boys light up, looking at Stephen for permission.

"Make sure y'all listen to V. Don't give her a hard time."

They nod, before following Veronica to the door. Veronica opens it and sees a tall handsome man approaching with a manila envelope in his hand. "Well, hello," she greets him, flirtatiously, as the boys run past them with their scooters.

"Hey, how're you doing? I'm here for Stephen."

She looks down at the envelope in his hand. "State your business."

He chuckles at her boldness. "I'm a colleague."

"What's your name?"

"Darrell. And yours?"

She sizes him up before looking back into the house. "Stephen! You know someone name Darrell?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Cause he's standing at the door, holding an envelope like he's trying to serve you papers or something."

Darrell is amused at Veronica's protectiveness.

"Alright, one second," Stephen calls out. He washes his hands.

Veronica crosses her arms, trying to hide her attraction towards Darrell. There's definitely some chemistry between the two, and judging by the way Darrell is staring at her, he's definitely not trying to hide it.

Stephen finally approaches the door. "What's up Darrell? You do know today is Christmas, right?"

"I have family in the neighborhood, so I figured I'd just drop this information to you, now. I called, but it went straight to voicemail."

"Oh yeah, I need to charge it. Thanks man. I appreciate this." Stephen takes the envelope from him. Veronica clears her throat, looking between the two men. "You need some water or something?" Stephen asks Veronica.

"You are the worst wingman ever."

"What?" He asks, confused

Veronica looks over at Darrell, seducing him with her eyes. "Now that you've been cleared, let me introduce myself..." She extends her hand. "Veronica."

Darrell shakes hers, admiring her whole vibe. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Oh, hell no. This is not about to happen," Stephen interjects.

"This is why Sam is my favorite. He would never hate on me in public."

"Dead that." He pulls their locked hands from each other, and pats Darrell on his shoulder. "Alright man, I'll see you in a couple of weeks."

Darrell chuckles. "Alright. Have a good day with your family." He smiles at Veronica before walking to his car.

"He is one good looking man."

Stephen shakes his head at her. "You're unbelievable."

"Y'all work together?"

"Yeah, and he's off limits."

"He's taken?"

"Veronica," he warns her.

"You don't scare me. Anyway, he must be one hard working man, bringing you his work today. Make sure you give him a raise."

"He is hard working. I wasn't expecting this until next week." He holds up the envelope. "Sam will be happy."

"Sam? He's not in any legal trouble, is he?"

"Damn, you're nosy."

"When it comes to him, yes I am."

He shakes his head. "He's not in trouble. He's handling something for somebody."

"Oh?"

"Anything else you wanna know, ask him." He looks across the street to his boys. "When Ma gets here, you wanna see if she'll keep them for the rest of their break?"

"How much are you gonna pay me, Judge Carter? 'Cause you know she's gonna have me watch them the whole time."

"How much are you asking?"

"Actually... all you have to do is give me Mr. Darrell's phone number."

He turns abruptly, leaving her at the doorway.

"Cock blocker."

---

"They're for work," Sam informs Yemi.

"Really Sam?" She says, laughing.

"I can't go another day looking at you with that other shit on."

She smacks his shoulder, playfully.

"...Try them on."

"You are too much, Sam." She shakes her head before pulling up the high-waisted cargo-jogger pants underneath her robe. She holds the hem of the robe up to her waist, walking to the wall mirror to inspect. "Oh," she says, surprised.

"Yeah, uh-huh. What you gotta say now?" He asks, confidently.

"These are actually... cute, and comfortable. Where'd you get 'em from?"

"Neiman Marcus."

"... So that means they were expensive."

"I don't know what that word means," he shrugs before digressing. "Come look at these," he tells her, pointing at the rest of the clothes in the box.

"You're not slick Sam." She takes the rest of the clothes out, seeing five more pairs of the same pants but in different colors. "I'm not going to lie, I really like these."

"I told you, I got you, ma." Yemi smiles, before pecking his lips. Sam reaches under the tissue paper at the bottom, pulling out something bright in color. "Here." He hands it to Yemi.

She unfolds it, revealing two fitted high visibility safety vests. She laughs. "I have never seen a safety vest look so good. Neiman Marcus had these?"

"No. They're custom made. From the same boutique you got that skirt from the first time we went to church together."

"Sammie." She tilts her head, loving his thoughtfulness. "Thank you."

He hands her another present. She opens it and smiles before pulling out a box of blush colored Timberland hiking boots. "These are nice," she says, grinning.

He hands her another box. She pulls out another pair of Timberland boots. Waterproof with the colors brown, olive, and beige on them. Yemi can't stop smiling.

The fourth box holds a pair of Louboutin ankle-wrap sandals. Yemi sits on his lap, facing him. She kisses his lips, traveling down to his jawline, and then down to his neck.

"Mamas, stop before you get something started."

"Uh-uh."

He chuckles. "At least wait until after you open everything."

She pouts. "...Fine." She climbs off him, and picks up the next box. She gasps when she sees another pair of Louboutin's. "Sam!"

He smiles.

"This is not fair. I didn't really get you anything."

"So those notes, candles, and you taking care of me, last night, wasn't anything?"

"You know what I mean."

"You know I don't care about materialistic shit."

"But this is all material things."

"Yemi. If I felt you could've benefit from something else, I would've given that to you instead. My job as your boyfriend is to make up for all the shitty Christmases you've ever had and to give you everything that was stolen from you. So let me do that, alright?" He says to her gently.

She nods, blushing, and then picks up another gift. "...Let me see what else you got me then." Yemi grins hard after unwrapping a box full of Fenty Beauty lipsticks, in many different shades.

"See? Everything has a meaning behind it."

"Thank you so much." She hands the box to him. "Which one should I wear, today?"

As Sam goes through the colors, Yemi opens the next gift. Her eyes beam with pure bliss. Eyeshadow palettes, mascara, and eyeshadow brushes are inside. "You're gonna make me cry."

He chuckles. "Here, wear this one."

She takes the lip color from him, and then examines his Gucci sweater. "And wear all black, huh?"

"Yeah, since you're trying to match with me," he mimics her, playfully.

"Don't act like you don't want me to," she says, sticking her tongue out.

"You must want part two of last night. Stick that thing out one more time," he cautions her, teasingly.

She blushes before picking up another gift. She opens it and rolls her eyes, causing Sam to smile hard. "I might as well get your name tatted on me." She smirks, lifting up a 22 karat gold necklace with his name personalized in diamonds. "You think you are so smooth."

"So, you're not going to wear it?"

"Of course, I'm going to wear it," she says in a duh tone.

They both laugh. "Let me put it on you."

She sits next to him and turns her back, allowing him to place the necklace around her neck. She admires it as he fastens the clasp. "It's beautiful, Sam."

"Not as beautiful as you."

She turns around and kisses him a few times before they're interrupted by a knock on the door. "You're expecting someone?"

"Yeah, room service." He starts to get up. "Open those while I get the food."

"Oooh, food," she says smiling.

She grabs the last two boxes, and sits them on her lap as Sam goes to open the front door.

"Hello sir. Here is your food and drinks."

"'Preciate it." Sam takes the rolling tray table from the Room Attendant before hearing Yemi scream. He jogs over to her holding a piece of paper against her chest.

"Oh my gosh! Sam!"

He smiles. "... Any ideas on what you wanna do with it?"

"I don't know. I have to think about it," she coos.

He nods, still smiling.

"Baby, this is amazing. I can't believe you bought me this. I have my own freakin' land!"

"Mamas, you deserve that and so much more."

"You know what... We might not make it to your brother's after all of this," she warns him, seductively.

He chuckles, then points at the remaining box. "Last one before we eat."

She starts to open the very small box. "Is this jewelry?"

"Is it?" He teases her.

She squints at him, skeptically, before looking back down at the gift. She removes the lid, covering her mouth immediately.

"Now you can match me forever," he chuckles.

"Wait! It's a G Wagon?!"

He nods. Yemi jumps up and down with the fob in her hand before tackling him to the floor, kissing him all over his face and neck.

"Damn, when did you get so strong?" Sam laughs, finally allowing her to show him her appreciation.
