Chapter 40 || You know what you need to do
Noah
She was lying on the mattress. Her skin was white, contrasting with her dark hair. She was lying there, her chest rising and falling. I touched her hand, it was still warm. Her chest rose and fell.
It had been like this for days.
She was in some sort of coma.
The doctor had come in a couple days earlier. He said that the injuries she endured were bad, but they shouldn't have caused this reaction. There was no explanation.
I stood up, coming to the other side of the bed. Laying on my back beside her. I took her limp hand in mine.
After a few moments my eyes began to drift close, I didn't want to close my eyes, but I did.
I was surrounded by darkness. It felt like I was in some kind of room, where there was nothing, no light, nothing. I couldn't even see my hands.
I couldn't open my eyes. I couldn't get out of this room. I couldn't get out of this dream.
Then bright light was shining from one corner, then light was shining from another, and then the entire room was shed in a blinding brightness.
There was a women standing in front of me. I took one glance at her then looked away. She was too bright.
From that glance I was able to make she was wearing a white robe, and she had light brown long hair with a bow in her hand.
"You cannot look at me. It will blind you." the women said. Her voice sounded like a melody caught in the wind.
"Your mate. She won't last much longer." She continued. I was about to look back up at her. Sarah was going to make it, she had to.
"Do not look at me." She said. Her voice stronger this time, like the crashing of waves in a storm.
"Okay." I said.
"She has too much power for her being. She is human. Her body can't take it."
I knew what she was talking about. It all made sense now. She killed Lycaon. She got his power, and it was just too much. But it couldn't just kill her. I was lying beside her right now. I was holding her hand, I could hear her pulse, the beating of her heart connected with the beat of my own. If hers were to stop mine would too. That's what it felt like at least.

"Why are you telling me this." I asked. My voice cracked. My voice never cracked.
"She needs to be killed."
I looked up at her again. The light blinded me, I stepped back a few steps.
"Why? Why in this century or the next would I kill her?" I said, my voice gaining volume with each word that left my mouth.
"If she dies the peaceful death that anyone would ever want for her the demons that were at Lycaon's side will be set free from their bondage. They will roam territories, cities, they'll create wars, kill children, kill everyone. Without a certain master they will be free." She replied. "she needs to be killedso that doesn't happen. You need to kill her so you can be-"
"JUST STOP!" I roared. I clutched my head, grabbing onto the ends of my hair.
I just got her. We were finally at a good place. We were together.
"You know what you need to do."
The blackness crowded in once again.
This couldn't happen. This wouldn't happen. I wouldn't let this happen.
My eyes shot open. I was still in my room. I was lying beside Sarah's body. I reached up to rub my face wetness was there.
She couldn't be killed. I needed her.
I wouldn't let her be killed.
I wrapped an arms around her hand held her close.
***
I was standing in a valley, looking over the Thanatoes lying side by side. Stacked ten bodies high. There were too many. I didn't know how many there were, and I didn't want to find out.
***
I was lying by Sarah again. Her warm hand was in mine. The doctor came again today. He said she was getting worse.
She wouldn't die. She wouldn't die. She wasn't aloud to die.
That's what I told myself as I tried to get some sleep.
***
I was sitting on a chair beside her bed. Her hand was in mine.
The doctor was here again today. Her organs. They weren't looking good.
***
I was lying next to Sarah. I was holding her hand.
Then blackness surrounded me. I spun around in a circle. I closed my eyes and breathed in the alluring scent that was in the room.
When I opened them again she was there. She was standing. And she was talking to me.

"Noah, Noah, NOAH!"
I shook my head. "Sorry, what was that?" I asked.
"Noah, you need to listen."
I rolled my eyes out of instinct. But when i looked at her again she had a straight face and was looking straight into my eyes.
"I love you." She said, and the hope that had been dying the past days began to sprout in my chest like a field of wild daises in mid July.
"Know that I love you." She said, "Whatever you do won't change that."
"What do you mean?"
She didn't say anything. Instead she came up to me and laid a kiss on my cheek. I closed my eyes feeling the soft touch of her lips. When i tried to reach out and touch her nothing was there.
I opened my eyes and she was gone. A sense of panic started to envelope me.
And then words that had echoed in my brain the past weeks were slowly whispered once again.
"You know what you need to do."
And then i woke up.
I was still lying next to Sarah. She looked whiter then usual.
There was a knock on the door. My brother, Cole, walked in. I sat up.
I glanced up at him as he took a seat in the chair beside her bed. "How's she doing?"
I shook my head.
He looked at me, concern in his eyes. "What's going on?"
My brother Cole was ruthless in every sense of the word, much like our father, and much like Lycaon. The only difference between them was that when it came to family Cole was ruthlessly loyal. I was probably closes to him, which isn't saying much considering I wasn't close to any of my family members.
He was somebody I could trust none the less.
So I told him what happened. He looked surprised for a moment, and simply nodded his head. He didn't say anything for a moment. "Did the doctor say how much longer she'll last?" He finally asked.
"No, but he's coming tomorrow, by then he should be able to give us a better understanding of what the next couple of weeks will look like. Cole nodded his head once again and just sat there for a moment.
Then he got up from his chair and slowly excited the room, giving me my space.
I was laying next her again. Holding her hand.
I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
***
The doctor came today. Days, she had days to live.
I laid beside her, again holding her hand until I fell asleep.
***
Blood, it was every. There was blood on my hands, blood on her chest, blood on the bed sheets, blood in her hair, blood on the floor, blood on my shirt. All I could see was blood.
Then I saw the knife, it was covered in blood, and it was in her chest. I wondered why I hadn't seen in earlier. It was fairly large.
Then an all encompassing pain took over my body as the reality of the situation started to sink into my brain. I sat up in the bed, in the blood, and stared at the wall.
She was dead.
The words that had been ever present the past few weeks were whispered once more as I stared at nothing.
You know what you need to do.
And it was done
Well that's it guys!
I know this is abrupt, but that's how i wanted to end it. My reason being that I hated Noah and Sarah's relationship. Really, now, looking at it, it was truly, at its core abusive. And honestly I hate myself for writing something like this, and condoning it at the same time. Nobody should have to force you to do something, or be with someone whether that be a boy or fate. I guess I ended it this way to really distinguish that even though they defeated the evil man trying to take over the world the real villain in the story was Noah. He took Sarah from her home, uprooted her life, in many instances forced himself on her, and in the end killed her. He said he loved her, and Sarah in the end made the realization that she loved him, but Noah was always abusive, and that cycle was either going to end with Sarah leaving him, or Sarah succumbing to his destruction.
