Chapter 39 || Glass
"Now! Ladies and gents, how about we get straight to it!" Lycaon said enthusiastically.
Noah's jaw had hardened, "With what?"
Lycaon looked at us both, "Why, with your punishment of course."
I gulped. "You see I take it very personally when family betrays. I mean I already had a word with your Dad. He wasn't in agreeance either. I say it was fun diminishing him. But this... this one, this punishment is going to be the best. It will be remembered." He let out a dry chuckle.
Noah's eyes were stills staring into mine. He wasn't even looking at Lycaon. I didn't know how he could attain that type of concentration. To look at me instead of the man about to explain probably the most terrifying information ever.
"Oh!-" Lycaon said in a cheery tone. "-This is going to be so much fun."
Finally Noah spoke, "And why is that?"
"Because," Lycaon said as he slowly started walking, finding a standing position behind my chair, placing each oh his hands on my shoulders. He squeezed them slightly and I could feel the tips of his nails dig into my skin. "She'll be the first killed in this cleansing, and don't worry, as I said earlier. I will make it memorable."
|>
A scream tore through my throat as Lycaon took my hand and snapped it back, breaking the bone. The pain from my wrist spread through my entire arm sending me into a pain filled haze.
At this point tears that had previously running down my face were now drying. I had cried all the tears I had already. There were none left to trickle down my cheeks. Now all that existed in the form of showing my pain was the screams that ripped past my throat.
If you couldn't already tell this had been going on for a while now.
I remember watching criminal minds this past summer. You witnessed the pain of victims, it was the kind of pain you never thought you yourself would endure. I wanted to laugh, because the pain I was feeling now was something you could see on criminal minds. It was the pain I never thought I would feel.
I gulped through my parched mouth, waiting for the next onslaught of pain. I felt as if I could barely even lift up my head. That if suddenly I was given the chance to run away I would just collapse onto the cold floor.
If I were to lift my head I think I would succumb to eternal defeat. If I were to look into Noah's eyes at this moment in time it would just get worse.
A jolt of pain ricocheted through my left cheek as Lycaons hand came across it. I gasped in a big gulp of air, but no tears left my tear ducks.
"Having fun, Noah?" Lycaon sneered at him.
Noah didn't say anything. I was looking down at the floor. I noticed Lycaons feet move across the floor, away from me.
"What would you suggest I do next, Noah?" He asked. "I could always stab a knife into her gut, let her bleed out painfully. Although breaking some more bones could fun. Ah, there is such an assortment of amusing tricks up my sleeve." He let out a snide chuckle, once it died down he continued, "So which shall it be, Noah?"

Noah didn't say anything.
A growl emitted from Lycaon, "Which shall it be, boy."
Noah remained quiet.
"Well I guess you're leaving it up to me. I have to say that probably was not the wisest choice." I heard Lycaon's feet travel across the room. Then before I knew it I felt the cold touch of metal on my neck.
Lycaon's blade shaved the piece of skin underneath it. letting little drops of blood make their way down my neck. I thought that my life would be over, that he would make one quick swipe across my throat and then death would claim me quickly. Instead the blade continued from my neck to my arm slowly, making sure to prick and catch skin on the way. When it reached my hand, my fingers, I hoped that it was over. Of course that was naive thinking in that moment.
Before I could even react he jerked my hand up. I clenched my jaw, trying to stop the scream from making it out.
"You know? I think these fingers are pretty nice, they should at least be preserved..."
I felt the cold metal touch my pinky finger first. You'd think that cutting off a finger would be a lot harder than a simple swipe of a knife, that it'd take at least a little bit of sawing, but you'd be wrong.
Yet another scream ripped through the air. My body started to shake, and I began to see black dots appear in front of me. Okay this isn't the first time black dots have danced in front of me , but this was the first time it felt as if I was going to pass out.
And to be honest I wish I would, because I knew what was coming next. I knew it was going to be worse. It always got worse.
I heard a chuckle from the monster standing beside me, "Oh, humans, so weak. It's just a finger, a pinky one at that. Get over it."
I gulped in a breath, trying to calm myself down. But I couldn't. The tears that I thought were all used up were again streaming down my face not as much from the pain this time, and more from the fear that cursed my body.
"Which finger next?... Noah? What are your thoughts?" Lycaon asked.
I didn't hear Noah reply at first. Then I heard a voice I had come to think to fondly of, "I think you need to get your hands off of Sarah."
The sound of chains dropping to the ground was the only sound that could be heard in the room at that second. Even my labored breath seemed to still.
And then the sound of Noah standing up replaced that sound.
To me, that was a sound of hope.
Lycaon still chuckled, "So you think a beat up subordinate alpha will be able to defeat me?"
"I'd rather fight to the death than give out the chance to do anything more to me or my mate." Noah replied.
A few moments ago the idea of making it out of this dingy basement didn't even have the chance of entering my mind, and now the life that had previously drained from my body was now slowly making its place again. With the idea, the hope of escape made it possible for me to lift my head again.

When i looked up I found two wolves fighting.
There was a definite disadvantage in size and health.
The smaller of the two wasn't fairing well. There was blood spread about his coat of fur, and he almost looked ready to collapse.
It was Noah, I knew it was Noah.
He was going to kill Noah.
One of my hands was still strained to the arm of the chair, and my other, well it was pretty immobile. But to my advantage it was only rope.
You'd think that a killer, a self proclaimed geniouse at that would know better than that.
I wriggled m wrist. The rope was tied tight. The type of tight that when you move your hand too much you start to scrape skin, and than you bleed, and when you try to move it again your making your wound even worse.
But despite the bleeding, the rope loosened enough for me to pull my hand out.
With both of my hands free I went straight to my feet. When I bent over to reach them blood rushed to my head and I got dizzy, but then I glanced over at Noah and Saw a large werewolf starting to corner.
I closed my eyes and counted to three. There wasn't time for me to count to ten. I opened my eyes and finished untying my feet.
It wasn't an easy task. You know, untying my feet with you hand, but I made it work.
I glanced over at Noah, His teeth were in Lycaon's neck.
I put my good hand firmly on the armrest of the chair and tried to get up. I fell back into my chair. I breathed in, my chest hurt, my throat hurt, my everything hurt. I closed my eyes and counted to three. No time to count to ten.
I pushed myself up from the chair for a second time and got to a standing position. Blood rushed to my head. I closed my eyes and counted to three, only to three. There wasn't time for ten.
I glanced over at Noah again. He was scrawled out on the ground once more.
I took a step towards them, and fell to my knees. Out of instinct my hands flew out in front of my and the impact on my fall landed on my wrists, my broken wrists.
Searing pain coursed through my body.
My eyes shot over to Noah. Lycaon was getting closer.
There was no time to close my eyes this time. Slowly but surely I made my way to my feet again. I glanced up when I heard cracking bones. At first i thought it was Noah's defeat, it was actually him turning back into his human form.
When I got to my feet I looked straight towards them, but then my eyes darted towards the door that was just a few feet from where the fight was taking place.
Each step sent a jolt of pain through my body. It felt like it took me three centuries to make it to my destination.
Once I got there I gripped the door handle to steady myself. Black dots started dancing in front of me, and it just became too much. My knees buckled from under me and I was once again on the floor.
Pain. Pain. Pain. I leaned my head against the cool floor, black dots dancing in my eyes again.
It was the voice of Lycaon that drew me out of the performance of dots I was watching.
"Get up, Noah." Lycaon ordered, "I was really hoping you were going to give me a decent fight. I really did. Apparently that was too much to expect anyone on this earth anymore." He chuckled again. I guess you could call it more of a laugh though. It was too boisterous to be considered a chuckle.
I looked down at Noah lying on the grown and my eyes began to water.
I shifted a bit on the ground, and felt something sharp while doing it. Glass... a very big piece of glass.
"I want to hear your last words." Lycaon said, moving even further towards Noah.
I looked back down at the glass, grabbing one end of it, lifting it up as I got to my feet once again.
I pulled myself towards Lycaon and Noah. He was a foot away from Noah now, slightly bending forward.
"And once you say your last words I'll cut your head off, but not before I finish off your mate. I want you to see her go."
I creeped closer to Lycaon.
"I'll make sure you have a nice view. I'll set you up on the chair right across from her. Ill even make sure you can see her eyes as I drain the life out of her."
He took one more step towards Noah, "And then you will go. You will die knowing that you could-"
I jumped before he could finish his sentence. My hands were on either end of the glass as I aimed for his neck.
I think he heard me, he even turned around, but it was too late. The glass connected with his throat, he went tumbling to the ground. His body landed centimeters from Noah as the glass made it through his neck.
The adrenaline cursed through my body. I couldn't feel my wrist. I couldn't feel anything. All I knew was that i killed Lycaon. He was gone, and he wasn't going to hurt Noah.
And then I blacked out.
I wasn't surprised though. That always seemed to happen when I was around Noah.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!

Advent of the Mindfire Mage: A Challenger's Return Story
Updates MWF, 6PM EST! Not so long ago, a story was posted on Webnovel, one that fired my imagination unlike almost anything before or since. It was known as The Challenger's Return: Rebirth of the Rainbow Mage. However, 150 chapters in, the author NightWind, who I'd personally interacted with and begun to consider a true friend, vanished from the internet without a trace. And so, I have acted upon my fervent desire to pick up his torch, to refuse to let his world that stirred such passion in me die. Read below about my own take on The Challenger's Return. Was Lheticus summoned to the Tower by chance, or by choice? Either way, with the new power he wins, he won't hesitate to burn anyone who seeks to keep him from his true love to cinders, and with a unique ability of the highest potential, he may just succeed, but he's just as likely to burn himself down. And as it turns out, the latter case may be woven into his very destiny...can that destiny be changed? And if it is, what will be the repercussions for the Tower? (You may want to read a fair amount of the original Challenger's Return before starting this, as, particularly in the early chapters, many things that are laid out in it are glossed over in this story.)
