《Boundless [COMPLETED]》XII

"Your meeting commences in 10 minutes," I declared as I poked my head through the office door.
His eyes darted towards the clock hung on the wall behind him and he stood up. With that, I approached him with the few files he was going to need for this meeting and gave them to him.
"Thank you," he said politely before leaving the room. I almost followed behind when he said:
"You're not coming with me," without even sparing me a glance. I narrowed my eyes in offense before I huffed.
"Mr Brown is so going to get an earful from me the next time he sees me," I grumbled.
In order to pass the time, I decided to look around the office and try to spot as many changes as possible. I basically turned it into a spot the difference game because I really did not have anything else to do.
As my eyes moved around the place, I could spot so many differences. However, it did not change the fact that this place still screams 'Damian'.
I could see a picture frame from my angle and before I knew it, I found my legs walking around his table and myself gazing at the picture. Tears threatened to fall and I gulped in attempt to hold them back.
Lyra.
It was clear to me that he still misses her immensely. It was only fair that way, anyway, since they were siblings. As far as my memory recalls, they were the closest siblings can be and never fought. He loved her dearly and tried to provide her with as much comfort as possible and as soon as I stepped up as his wife, I made it my priority to make her happy.
Knowing that she passed away with the memory of me running away hurts me deeply.

I heard the office door creaking open and quickly moved my hands to wipe my tears.
"You forgot to-" Damian paused midway through his words as he saw my disheveled state. I was never able to hide the fact that I was crying away from him- not that it was difficult to figure out since my face always immediately turns red.
His eyes moved and landed on the picture frame within my sight.
I saw him close his sad eyes for a moment and inhale deeply before opening them and glaring at me with the same emotionless eyes.
"Why are you crying?" he scoffed. I didn't answer as I clenched my fists and stared at the ground.
"Why. Are. You. Crying?" he persisted.
"You already know why!" I fired in agitation.
"Do I really? You have absolutely no right to be crying over my sister when you left us- left her without batting a lash."
"That does not mean I did not care about her-"
"It does, Valerie, it does. She was heartbroken," his voice cracked. My breath halted as I listened attentively to his next words.
"The one wish we couldn't fulfill for her was her seeing you," he uttered monotonously before he turned around and left, leaving me behind with the new epiphany I wish I never realized.
She wanted to see me and I selfishly left her behind without saying goodbye.
With that, I grabbed my bag and bolted out of the company hoping to never have to step foot in it ever again.
