After leaving the Luna safely in the Moonlight Alpha's camp, I made my way back to RedFang. I made the odd pit stop to feed but kept the pace. Time was now of the essence considering the information I had now become privy too. Vital information that my Alpha needed knowledge of urgently. I had spent many years with Beta Richard homing my skills to become Beta and I felt the full weight of that position bearing down heavily upon my shoulders. I may have taken my position too seriously at times but that was only because of how much I loved my pack. I was devoted to supporting the Alpha no matter what task was thrown my way.

During my journey home my mind wondered to Beta Alec. How badly he must be feeling now that only a handful of his pack were left remaining. I could never fathom how hard that must be watching your Luna perish right before your eyes. I was unsure as of yet what kind of Luna Violet would turn out to be. Whether she will be deserving of the role our Goddess blessed her with. But I knew wholeheartedly that I would I would defend her with my life. It was the job of a Beta to protect alongside its Alpha and now that she was pregnant it was even more of a reason to protect her. For her pup would be the future of our pack.

When I was around 30 miles off my destination my wolf slowed down into a trot. His snout lifted and we sniffed the air. There was no doubt a change since I had left a few days ago and my wolf had come to the same conclusion. There were others here....

"Hello Matthew"

My muzzle turned to asses the owner of that voice and to my surprise it was someone I knew already which gave me some form of relief. I shifted to my human form and acknowledged my pack mate. I nodded in greeting.

"James, what are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same question" he accused.

His eyes were challenging but his body remained tense. It was no secret that we were both rivals. After all, the role of Beta was always supposed to sit with me until Demitri decided it would be a good idea to hand over one of the most important roles to this pup. I knew he was not cut out for the role but it was not my place to question my Alpha. Either way, his decision to appoint me as Beta was understood amongst our pack and I could not afford for there to be bad blood between us. He was not cut out for the role, he needed to get over it. He was Gamma stock for christ sake and completely delusional.

"As the Beta of RedFang I do not have to explain myself to you. If anything, you should be the one explaining to me. Did our Alpha not tell you to leave RedFang territory? I suggest you leave James before I have to report this to him directly". I said.

He winked at me which made my wolf bristle.

"I bet you would snitch too. Wouldn't you Beta"!

His voice was laced with disrespect when he referred to my title. He was immature and I decided to deflect. There was no point in starting a fight over this.

"Where is your Mate Milly and your new pup"? I scanned the forest but they were no where to be seen.

That's when I heard it.

Twigs snapping.

We were being surrounded by wolves approaching us. Wolves who were undeclared on RedFangs lands. My eyes widened with the threat they posed.

James snorted at my questioning of his mates whereabouts.

"An omega is of no use to me. Her position in life is beneath mine and when she refused to follow my ideals I decided it was best to join those who could make my dream a reality. You should never have accepted the role Beta Matthew".

The wolves revealed themselves one by one and it was clear I was not getting out of this. I was still too far away from my pack to mind link my Alpha.

"Tell us where the Alpha sent you Matthew".

I raised my eye brow at him.

Over my dead body would I ever allow this traitor and Rogues to know the whereabouts of my pregnant Luna. When my silence revealed my answer he said..

"Very well... kill him".

I guess Alec was on his own I thought.
