《Mages and Wizards》24. Dance

When the girls left the dressing room, they headed straight for the ball — which they were almost late for. They ran in there and met up with their dates. The boys noticed that the others from fairy tail also had a date with them. "How'd you guys get a date?" They all asked in unison.
"I was about to ask you that!" They said in unison again. "Stop coping me!" They, once again, said in unison. They ended up butting heads and getting into a fight with each other. "So~ how did you guys get dates?" Erza asked the girls, leaving the boys' banter to themselves.
"Well. . . There was this candlelit dinner waiting for Gajeel and I when we went out —" her voice got cut off by gasps. "That happened to me too!" Lucy screamed. "I was just walking normally, but then all of a sudden, I was at a candlelit dinner with Natsu." Lucy explained. "That happened to me too!" Juvia yelled.
"For me, there was this street lamp randomly appearing with only one light. It was so strange." Wendy said. "That happened to me too!" Erza yelled. "Wow! We all had the same thing, but how?" Levy questioned. "I don't know. . ." The others admitted.
They then heard a stifled laugh coming from behind them. The only two people that were there were, Mira and Cana. "Cana, did you do this?" Wendy asked. "Do what~" She slurred, she was drunk again. "It couldn't be her. She's too drunk to care." Levy remarked. They heard that laugh again and turned in the other directions.
Suddenly, all the pieces fell into place; it was Mira. She was the match-maker and the only person who would do all this just for some ships. They glared at her while she just nervously laughed. "He he, bye!" She ran off.

The music playing before stoped and turned softer.
The sound of it washed away any whispers and conversations between those who weren't dancing. The music caused the ones who were dancing, to immediately change their forms. Thanks to mira, all of her ships ended up dancing together, by a mysterious push that just happened to collide them together.
Nothing out of the ordinary. Totally.
They all danced on the floor, perfectly in sync with each other. Their dancing looking perfectly coordinated, even though some of them — Natsu — have never danced before. Everyone who wasn't dancing looked in awe at how the small, dimly lit candles illuminated the area, light slighting brushing against their faces and hair.
The soft smiles on all their faces, how their snails actually reached their eyes. A real, genuine smile of them having fun. And, for the first time in the history of fairy tail, it was quiet. That was the part that shocked everyone even more. They were too busy, as they were entranced by the eyes of the person they were dancing with.
"It's so quiet. It hasn't been like this since the transfer students came." Hermione said as she and Draco danced. They were one of the few couples that weren't part of the infamous guild dancing. Their particular pairing shocked a lot of people, a mudblood and a pure blood. Who would've expected?
Throughout the entire dance, the couples; Natsu and Lucy, levy and Gajeel, Wendy and Romeo, Erza and jellal, Gray and Juvia, Mira and Laxus, hermione and Draco and Harry and Ginny, were staying perfectly together.
"They truly do look beautiful." A spectator said, still entranced with everyone else at their beauty when they're dancing with each other.

8 205The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
8 191One Man's Journey (2nd Draft)
Adam's life was normal; he teased his sister, daydreamed of becoming a powerful spiritualist and slaying evil dragons, and absolutely loved staring at the colorful night sky. All of that changed on one nightmarish night. AN: Hello once again! This is the second draft of my work that makes many changes tothe first. It's not just an edit, but an entire rewrite! Hopefully I am fixing some of the issues both I and others perceived with the first draft as well as improve the overall quality with everything I learned from writing the first draft. I hope you enjoy my work ^_^ Current cover by ChaosPenguin
