《New Admission: An Original BPS Fanfiction》Chapter 4: Tale of the Plasmic Quartet

Caramel walked nervously behind Professor Awesome, sure that she was going to be expelled and sent back home for attempted sabotage at the other student's performances for the entry exam. She didn't mean to, really. All she wanted was to save that one boy. But now, here she was, waiting for her execution. What was she going to tell the Ninja Twins when she showed back up at the temple? Guilty tears sprang into her eyes when she thought of how much they have sacrificed just so she could go to this school, and she had let them down before she even got in.
Professor Awesome didn't say a word, good or bad, as he led Caramel deeper into the building. She wasn't even sure if they were in the school anymore. Maybe, if lucky, she would be allowed to stay, but as a sort of custodian-in-training. Her heart dropped as she thought of all the other students, becoming animators, while she learned how to clean the floors and doors.
Finally, after endless walking, they came to a sort of communication area. Professor Awesome started up the motherboard, punched a few numbers into a keypad, then sat back and waited. After a few minutes of dial-up, four call blocks appeared onscreen. All the callers had their cameras off, but they had their names displayed beneath them.
At first, Caramel was confused. Who were these people? Were they the headmasters, the ones who were to be contacted for an apparent atrocity as hers? Then, she looked closer, and realized they were FAR more important than that. The four names displayed underneath the callers were:
Professor Awesome had just called the four main Black Plasma Studio leaders in themselves. And she was there, right in front of them, another subject in the call. Under normal circumstances, she would have been honored to gain such a privilege. But now, she knew too well what was coming next. She had no idea she was in THIS much trouble.

"Mr. Awesome? Is that you?" Sam asked in his usual British accent. "Good to hear from you, old friend! How's the academy?"
"Doing fine, actually," Professor Awesome responded, without looking back at Caramel. "We've got a bumper crop of freshmen today."
"Splendid!" Thomas piped up. "Did you call us to make a public address?"
"If so, I'm afraid it's a little too late to schedule one now," Nitrox said apologetically. "We're on a tight schedule now, and I believe--"
"There was an incident at the entrance exam today," Professor Awesome cut in. "One that I believe requires your attention." Caramel froze up, already assuming the worst.
"Incident? Why, what happened?" Sam wanted to know.
"A young student named Caramel Charlatte damaged the simulation projector in an attempt to save another student," Professor Awesome replied in the same, even tone. "Haven't seen a bout of bravery and gut like that since your time."
"'Our time?' Are you assuming we're old?" joked Nitrox.
"Well, where IS the young miss now?" asked Thomas.
"Right here with me, actually," Professor Awesome said, finally turning back to face Caramel. "Well, go on. Introduce yourself."
Unsure of what was going on now, but still nervous nonetheless, Caramel timidly stepped up and whispered: "H...Hello. I'm Cara-Caramel Charlatte."
Silence was met to her shy greeting. "Speak up," Professor Awesome instructed. "They probably can't hear you."
Gulping, Caramel tried again. "H-Hello, sirs. I'm Caramel Charlatte."
"Well, now, nice to meet you, young lady," Sam greeted brightly. It made Caramel feel a little more comforted. "Now, what gave you the endurance to follow grumpy old Professor Awesome down here?"
"A bunch of the freshmen picked on her for supposedly ruining the exam," Professor Awesome explained. "They didn't hold back when confronting the poor thing, that's for sure."

"I-I swear I had no intention to," Caramel tried to defend herself. "I didn't want to mess anything up. I just wanted to pass the exam!"
"So, you resorted to breaking the system over an exam?" Nitrox said suspiciously.
"N-No! I-I mean, there was another student in trouble, and I just...reacted. It was stupid of me, but the only thought that came to mind at the time..."
The four BPS leaders fell silent, and Caramel's confidence left her once again. No doubt, they were angered for her actions, and were more than prepared to kick her out. However, for the first time in the call, Arbiter spoke.
"Caramel?" he asked.
"Y...Yes, Mr. Arbiter?" she replied quietly.
"Do you recall the story of how BPS ever came to be to start with?"
"N-No, sir. All I know is that you went through some developmental changes, and that's all,"
"Was more than just that. A long time ago, I started a small one-man company to record Halo montages, from the video game. I even did a few Machinimas as well. However, when I hit my college years, I realized I had played myself into a corner, and was close to wasting my life away. In an act of desperation, I thought if I got a group to do Halo content with me, it would all work out. But I was wrong...people started getting bored and leaving the company. It looked like my mistake was going to send my life crashing. But I didn't let this one mistake let me down. I looked for another way out. And, in Minecraft animations, I found it. Together with the people who saw what I saw, we worked our way out of the darkness, and up to what we are today."
Caramel listened in awe to the amazing story. Could it be, that even with bumps along the road like this, she could become as great as the BPS crew as well? "So...what you're saying is...you're not angry at me for crashing the exam?"
Arbiter and his friends laughed heartily. "Oh, no, no, don't worry about that. Just remember this: as long as you try your hardest and don't let your mistakes weigh you down, you can ascend to great heights."
Caramel felt comforted by her idol's reassuring words. "I...don't know what to say. T-Thank you, Mr. Arbiter! All of you!"
"Finally, a student with some GRATITUDE," Nitrox sighed in relief. "With all the other kids, it's 'me, me, me!' Never a second thought about those who hurry them along!"
"Speaking of hurrying along, I think we need to get going ourselves," Sam said. "Awesome, you think you can escort Miss Caramel to her dorm?"
"M-My dorm?" Caramel stuttered, a little puzzled.
"Well, you handled the situation given in the exam, didn't you?" Thomas asked. Professor Awesome gave a single nod and a smile towards Caramel. At once, her mood did a complete 180 and she sprung around the room, squealing with excitement. She was back in business!
The quartet signed off, and Professor Awesome got up from the chair. "Well, you heard him. Let me take you to your dorm, Caramel."
Feeling happier than she had ever been, Caramel trailed her new teacher right away. At long last, she was on her way to her dream.

Protagonist: The Whims of Gods
Book one now also on Amazon! After quitting her job as a therapist and grabbing some work at a dog shelter, Tess's life became pretty slow. A tad boring, even. It thus came as no small surprise when she was chosen by a god. Thrust into a new world where magic, monsters, and character levels are suddenly a reality, Tess will quickly find that just surviving can be a challenge. It doesn't help that dark forces are stirring, she's woefully underpowered, and that spiders keep trying to claw her face off. One thing's for certain, though: The possibilities are endless. Will she end up wrestling a dragon? Becoming an arch-mage? Opening a quaint, bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar for elves? The choice is hers... As long as she can live long enough to make it. Protagonist is a fairly classic LitRPG novel with character levels, classes, stats, settlements, and other LitRPG elements. Unlike a lot of LitRPG stories, while the protagonist has some perks, she doesn't start off overpowered. You can expect to see her struggle as she advances. This novel also takes the opportunity to explore some less frequently seen builds, shying away from any min-maxing. Chapters are about ~2000-3000 words and are released at 8:00am ET every other day.

Follow along as Heather and Jamie do everything they can to last one day longer, go one step further, all while dealing with game politics and the slow acceptance of their new reality.
