《Ex-Angel》~Chapter 8~ Flight

"Master!! Master are you alright?!" I hear a voice yell as my body is being wildly shaken around. I slowly wake up and a wave of tiredness hits me causing me to lay back down. I open my eyes and look over to the person who was shaking me. I wave of shock hits me as I see a little girl with golden blonde hair and emerald green eyes sitting there. Her petite frame makes her appear to be no more than maybe six-years-old.
The girl is sitting there with tears streaming down her face and her cheeks are bright red it's obvious she'd been crying for quite a while I slowly force myself back up fighting against the searing pain that's pounding my skull. "Are…are you okay?" I say struggling for words as another wave of pain and tiredness washes over me.
The girl quickly wipes away the tears streaming down her face and leaps at me wrapping her arms around my neck almost choking me. "Master… Thank the powers that be that you're okay…. I thought… I thought you'd died…" The girl's grip tightens as tears start flowing again and she sobs softly. Recognition finally kicks in and I realize that the girl before me is Myu in her physical form. I study Myu for a moment trying to digest the image before me Myu who potentially could be several hundred thousand years old only has the physic of a six-year old girl, I guess spirits have an incredible slow aging process even for angels there are those how have been around since the start of time who have lost their youths and appear to be gray and old though they are immortal.
"Myu, how are you in your physical form right now I thought you required tons of mana to do so especially for an extended period of time," I say feeling my head starting to clear up. Myu lets go of me but stays sitting in my lap and starts fidgeting with a piece of her hair nervously. "Well… to tell the truth, I felt your life force and spirit leave your body so I got really scared and took a large portion of your mana and manifested myself in my physical form, which is also probably why you feel off."

I nod my head and gently move Myu off my lap and stand up. My legs feel weak but nevertheless, I manage to stand up normally and I slowly walk around trying to get my blood flowing again. After taking a few steps I feel incredibly sick and double over and throw up all over the ground and curl up in a tight ball on the ground my stomach feeling like it's ripping itself apart and sweat streaming out of every pore of my body. Pain suddenly erupts from my shoulder blades, the sound of ripping fabric echoes throughout the cave. The pain fades just as quickly as it appeared.
Myu runs over and drops down beside me, "Master… Why…What….You have wings sprouting out of your back!" I slowly open my eyes grimacing and slowly turn my head and sure enough, my eyes are greeted by a wall of jet black feathers. I push myself up into an almost crouching position I feel my wings scrape across the ground. Myu shuffles closer to me and wraps her arms around my waist trying to help me steady myself as I attempt at standing up, off-balance due to the newly gained wings.
Finally gaining my balance I stand up and I feel my wings twitch slightly as I turn around to see Myu running her hand through my feathers before looking up at me with insane curiosity. I smile slightly then turn away before grimacing again in pain. After a while, the pain subsides and I slowly flap my wings causing me to slightly levitate off the ground.
A little while later Myu decides that I'm okay and transforms back into her spiritual form leaving me alone in the cave again. "So I guess I have my wings now… I wonder why now? Did Lucifer do something to me… or did some effect wear off." I sit silently pondering before shrugging it off then lay down and try to fall asleep. After wrapping my wings around my body I am embraced in a familiar warmth and fall quickly back to sleep.

I wake up to the sound of water dripping against the stone floor of the cave, I push myself into a crouching position before fully standing up and walking out of the caves. As I was sleeping I had decided that it was no longer safe for me to remain within the caves in case more adventures were sent to capture or kill me. I grabbed my cloak and daggers and left the cave and headed south along the river bed. After a while, the river comes to end at a giant lake and there are several fishing boats scatter across it.
"Myu, do you think it would be safe for me to try flying around here I want to get adjusted to having my wings again." A faint stirring followed by a yawn echoes in my head before Myu replies in a groggy voice, "It should be fine Master as long as no one spots though there is a large human settlement along the far side of the lake so you should try to avoid that at all cost."
I nod my head slowly and then close my eyes and take a deep breath, "[Light Bending Magic; Invisibility Cloak]" after becoming invisible I jump up into the air flapping my wings and slowly take off before fully taking flight. I fly across the length of the lake at a comfortable pass maybe about the speed of a running horse I scan the fishing boats as I do so. Quickly I notice that only a few of the boats have humans on the while the others are just empty.
I take a few laps around the lake before climbing upwards to a height of about 500 yards and scan the surrounding area using magic. Past the village I see a huge forest while to the east there is a large mountain range which is the border of the Holy Empire of Ostra. I turn to fly to the border hoping to leave Ostra as quickly as possible which might result in fewer hunters chasing me for a while when I suddenly sense something.
I freeze in my tracks and slowly turn back around and stare down at the forest in fear. Within the forest, there are not one but two huge mana signatures which glow as bright as the sun itself but the most worrying fact is that within each unique signature there is a hint of divinity. I dive bomb towards the ground and take off towards the forest if I am correct this could be at least two of these "Lost Gods" that Lucifer had spoken of.

With no other option but the dark oblivion of death, Charles chooses to make a deal with the spirit of a distant world that's seeking a wild card in its battle against the gods, monsters, and mortals that threaten its existence. Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent

The Paradox Prophecy
Thousands of years ago, an alliance between the races of Idoras and the mighty dragons, saved the world from destruction. After many years of relative peace, a dark evil emerges. Aalya, a young girl from the small kingdom of Avani, meets the young Prince Alexandar. When chaos reigns on their peaceful home, Aalya and her friends gear up for an adventure that could very well determine the fate of all life in Idoras. I haven't completely fleshed out the prophecy yet but I wanted to include it because it is an important part of the story. I have decided it would be better to spend some time figuring out the world I am creating and work out all the kinks in the story. I have done a lot of editing in the first seven chapters already. For now, updating will be scarce. I will post all of part one once I am happy with what I have written. I will leave what I have up, but please let me know what you think. I do not own the image I used for the cover.
