《The Warrens》Chapter XVII

Nica
THE MOMENT NICA FOUND OUT Nis was gone from his room, a weird unsettling sensation came to her. She immediately found out Nis was in danger. Call it an assassin's intuition but she dare not ignore it, it saved her a bunch of times.
"Nis is in danger." she muttered.
Her two siblings looked at her, both confused.
"What are you talking about? He's probably on the roof again." Nico replied.
"Or hanging out with another girl." Niche added.
"I wouldn't call it 'hanging out' though." Nico grimaced.
Nica sighed. She couldn't believe it herself but her geek of a twin brother is a womanizer.
"I got a bad feeling about it."
Her phone suddenly rang. She checked the caller I.D. and immediately knew who it was. It wasn't a friend either.
"Macy."
"Ah! Arrow! How's my favourite assassin doing?"
"Why did you call?" she started. Nica was using her English accent, the one she usually used when she worked as an assassin.
"Ooh! Aren't you looking for your older twin brother?" Nica's forehead creased.
"Don't tell me you know where he is?"
"It gets better. I was the one who took him." she heard her laugh.
"What did you say?!"
Nico and Niche's ears perked up.
"Anyhoo, you don't have that much time. Dr. Collusus just wants you to have a bit of a mini game but it seems like the Big Boss has other plans. You better find him, Arrow. Before you lose everything."
And with that she hung up. Nica tried calling her but it would just go straight to voicemail. She directed her attention back to her siblings.
"Libero got Nis." she said.
"We heard. Let's get him." Niche replied.

"How will we find him exactly?" the remaining male Warren asked.
"He's always wearing the necklace I gave him on our birthday right?" Nica questioned.
"We always wear the matching necklaces you gave us on our birthday." Niche retorted.
"Good."
Nica dashed to her room and took her laptop out. She started hitting keys and a map of Nevada showed in front of her.
"What are you doing?" Nico asked.
"Finding Nis. Our necklaces has trackers in them. Unless Macy is too smart to find out about it and removed the necklace, which is impossible since she's an airhead, then we can tack him." Nica answered.
*****
The three were now facing an abandoned building. They tracked Nis and it led them here.
"You guys ready?" she asked.
"You kidding?" said Nico.
"I'm always ready." Niche answered.
"That wasn't my point." Nico mumbled.
They readied their weapons and entered the building. Once inside, they were immediately greeted by hordes of men with weapons. They just plundered their way in. What did you expect from an assassin, a spy, and a detective?
"You guys done?" Nico asked.
"Yeah!" both the girls answered.
Nica pulled another magazine of bullets and replaced the ones she just used. They continued trudging the enemy infested path and went towards where they think Nis is. They dared not separate, either.
After hours of looking and raiding the building, they reached one particular door on the third floor. When they entered, they saw Nis tied to a chair, had a tape on his mouth and had a C4 slung in his body.
"Nis!" Niche called.
Nica saw the timer and muttered a curse.
"We need to be quick! The C4 will explode soon!" she dashed to Nis' side and immediately got the ropes off.

"There are two more C4s on the room! We need to get out of here! Fast!" Nis yelled.
They left the C4 and immediately dashed outside. Unfortunately, they haven't even reached the second floor when the bombs exploded.
Nica was able to pull Nis to the sides but Nis just had to hit his head in the wall. He fell unconscious.
"Oh come on!" she groaned.
She lifted him up but stumbled forward because of his weight.
"What have you been eating!" wait. "It feels like deja vu." she muttered.
She managed to reach outside and met up with Niche and Nico. She was limping her way towards them. It was because she had a bad fall and that she was carrying someone heavier than Nico.
"What happened to him?" Niche screamed.
"The explosion caught us and this guy hit the wall." Nica complained. "Help me with him already!"
"I got it." Nico said.
"We can't go back to the hotel. Orebil will be there waiting for us. We brought all our stuff and it's in the car. We need to get out of Nevada and head to Arizona immediately." Niche ordered.
"Niche's right. We'll head to Arizona right away. I know a place by the way." Nica said.
They loaded Nis's unconscious body to the van they 'rented' and headed to Arizona, treating Nis on the way.
'They're making their move. We have to move fast.' Nica thought.

Killing Tree
When your day goes to hell and you find yourself kidnapped, strung up from a magical tree, and left to bleed out, what do you do next? Asking for a friend. Ghosts and spirits are outside of his specialty, and heaven help him if he has to cast actual spells, but Riordan isn't going to make this easy on his enemies. Even if that means breaking his long exile, turning to the local shifter community for help, and dealing with a bureaucratic department of mages. And don't even get him started on getting licked by a damn spirit bear. Now he just needs to figure out what will kill him first: his enemies, his past, or his own attempts at using magic?
