《The Warrens》Chapter II

Nica
HER FATHER IMMEDIATELY SENT THEM TO THEIR ROOMS when the fourth landmine exploded. Nica reached her room and grabbed a suitcase. She opened it and put a few clothes. She was smart enough to figure out they were being attacked and they may need to escape. As an assassin, she had been trained of ways to escape. But then again, she was an assassin, she won't go down without a fight. The last thing she put in the suitcase was the headphones she found three days ago. She placed the suitcase under her bed and took her bow and a quiver full of arrows.
Being an assassin, she found a liking to archery; it's silent, but deadly. A perfect weapon for someone like her. She slung the quiver at her back and took a peek in the window.
There were about thirty men with guns. She took one arrow and aimed, then she released it, hitting one person straight in the head. She pushed a button and the arrow detonated. One of the men fired at her direction. She reached for her cabinet and took out an M16. She fired it at the intruders' direction, she stopped and saw them all laying on the ground. She found another group of men moving their way toward their house. She slung her bow and carried her gun. She also took some bullets in case she ran out. She ran outside her room and went downstairs.
"Mom! Dad! Nico! Niche! Nis!" she called.
She reached the living room and saw her dad by the window, firing his service gun.
"Dad!"
"Nica? Didn't I tell you to go to your room?" he saw the M16, "Why do you have a gun?"
"Explanations later. What's going on?"
"I don't know. Find your mom, she must be scared out of her mind." she nodded and made a dash to the kitchen.

She saw Mom on the cleaning room. Dad was behind her and yelled, "Carmen! We're being attacked! This is no time to be cleaning!"
"Shut it!"
Mom took out all the brooms, dustpans, and mops. Even the vacuum cleaner. Dad grimaced and fired his gun when he noticed a man by the window. Nica did the same. Mom suddenly tore the wall of the cleaning room, revealing a lot of guns. Big and small.
"I haven't been totally honest with you dear." Mom kissed Dad and took one of the guns. She fired at the intruders.
They heard a crash upstairs and Nica's eyes widened. Her siblings! She dashed upstairs and found Niche taking down an intruder.
"How did you do that?" Nica heard a voice ask. She turned around and saw Nis.
"I'm no mere high schooler brother."
The three heard a gunshot and saw Nico firing at an intruder by the window.
"What? You think Niche's the only one in here who has a secret?"
"I think all four of us are hiding something." Nis stated.
"Mom too." the three looked at her like she had grown two heads. "She got a secret compartment of guns in the cleaning room and- GET DOWN!!!"
The three ducked and Nica fired at the window. Just as she finished, she turned around and saw her parents.
"Well mom, it looks like you're not the only one with a secret." Nica taunted.
"Seems like it." her mom grimaced.
"Everyone alright?" their dad asked them.
"We're fine. What's going on? Why are we being attacked?" Nis asked.
"Nis, that we don't know." Mom answered and grimaced.
"Niche, let's ask the guy you took down. Assuming you didn't kill him."

The six of them went to the unconscious body of an intruder. Nico checked him but-
"He's out cold."
"Don't move!!!" they all turned around and saw someone.
Nica was shocked. The man who stood before them was her boss.
"Dr. Collusus?" she called.
"Ah, sweet Nica. I was gonna call you to participate in this operation, but it seems like you won't be able to. I see you're one of the children of General George Warren and Agent Carmen Cortes-Warren." Dr. Collusus said in a taunting voice.
"Agent?" Nica and her siblings asked.
"What? I was with the CIA but I retired three days ago! And Nica, why do you know this guy?" Mom defended.
"Uh-"
"Rather yes. Agent Thirteen, your last mission was apprehending two agents of Libero. You were able to confiscate the Astil. The Codex on the other hand, was rather lost. We tracked it and found it here. We assume you took it, so give it to me."
Astil. Codex. These words were familiar to Nica.
"I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Hmm. I suppose a little torture will make you talk." Dr. Collusus snapped his fingers and a dozen men with guns went in. "Get them." he ordered.
The men started to attack them. The Warrens defended themselves, but they knew too well they were outnumbered when Collusus called another batch of fighters. Dad whispered something to Niche that Nica can't make out. After it, Niche was on the brink of crying, but she stopped herself and started dragging Nico and Nis.
"Nica! Come on!" Niche called.
"What do you mean? We can't leave mom and dad!"
"We have to!"
"Nica," she faced her mom. "Get out of here. Your dad and I, we'll be fine! Go!"
"No!"
"Go! Once you're out of here, contact Six or Seven! You can trust them! I love you!"
Her mom kissed her forehead and she ran towards her room and took her suitcase. Niche and the others also had their luggage with them when she joined them.
"Niche! We can't leave them!" Nis protested.
"We have to! Come on!"
They dashed downstairs and went to the cleaning room. Niche fumbled with a panel.
"Your name." a robotic voice asked.
"Niche Warren." she answered.
"Your full name please."
"What? I never use my full name. It's too long." she complained.
"Just say it! They might be behind us already!" Nico said.
"Your full name please." the robotic voice asked again. Niche just sighed.
"Niche Alexandria Michelle Cortes-Warren." and a door opened. "Cool! My name's a password." They went inside. As soon as they closed the door, they heard an explosion.

The Faction Contributor [Sci-Fi LitRPG]
While casually studying for his upcoming university exam, Aven suddenly felt the world around him start warping. It started with flashes of light appearing from nowhere, quickly escalating into his whole world becoming an absolute mess of flickering pixels and chaotic color flows, as if reality had become a malfunctioning glitched screen. What he could recognize as numbers, letters, and strange symbols flew everywhere around him, obviously trying to form a coherent whole to be displayed before his eyes, but such attempts kept failing, again and again. Before he could even start thinking about how both mesmerizing and absurd this spectacle was, however, it all stopped, as suddenly as it had begun. Accompanying the end of this unique show, 2 things happened. First, knowledge had spontaneously appeared in his mind and he could perfectly understand it, as if it had always been there, just inaccessible. Second, a weird simultaneously hot and cold energy had made its apparition inside his body completely unannounced. Aven had just simply and purely awakened his innate ability and the energy potential of his cells, joining the world of the supers, a minority that had always controlled and protected the world since ancient times, by becoming one of them. *** Do you have a sci-fi itch to scratch? Enjoy *** Update: 3 chapters every week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) Chapters: Around 3 000 words each.
