[It opens on a swimming pool, completely shadowed but vaguely visible. The pool is completely drained, a bit of mould forming around the bottom, and is 50 metres long while 20 metres wide. There are a few lockers around the room, then two doors: one exit door and one to a storage room. Hatter very slowly enters through the exit door, gun quickly pointing around the room. He very slowly looks around the room, giving a quiet chuckle.]
Hatter: [singing] Come out little kitty…
[Hatter takes off his hat and tosses it away near the storage room.]
Hatter: [singing] It’ll only take a minute…
[Hatter prances elegantly over towards one of the lockers, quickly knocking on it.]
Hatter: [singing] Hello?
[Hatter smacks the locker with the gun, quickly breaking it, then pulls the door open. He growls, pulling himself into it.]
Hatter: [angry] Oh where are ya, ya furry fucks?
[Behind him unnoticed, Chelsea appears in a sudden burst of air with a cup of coffee in her hand. Holding onto her by the shoulders are Leigh, Liv and Gary who are all wearing the pure black clothing with cat masks. Chelsea lowers the cup slowly onto the ground as they all look around. Liv pulls out the gun from behind Chelsea’s back while Leigh moves a hand out and causes the hat to slowly move over towards him. Liv shakily starts pointing the gun at Hatter as Gary starts to sneak around the edge of the pool. Leigh eventually gets the hat over to his head, placing it on top of his head.]
Leigh: [yelling] Now!
[Hatter quickly turns and aims towards Liv. As he fires, Leigh forces the gun around and at a wall, Gary quickly squealing and ducking as the bullet flies near him. Chelsea grabs a hold of Liv and pulls her out the way towards the exit.]

Chelsea: [panicking] Out, now!
[Leigh moves towards Hatter as he pulls the gun back around towards him. Leigh quickly ducks out the way as Hatter fires again, using his power against Hatter’s clothes to throw him back against the wall and pin him. Gary moves over at Hatter, trying to grab the gun out his hands.]
Gary: [panicking] Leigh, give me a hand please!
[Leigh quickly runs over towards Gary, as Hatter tries to fire the gun again. Gary panics and ducks out the way, accidentally losing his grip and Hatter quickly hitting him in the top of the head with the gun and knocking him out. Hatter then quickly forces his feet into a kick and knocks back Leigh. Leigh falls over and bangs his head, the Hatter dropping to the ground. He quickly picks himself up and moves over to Leigh, moving to kick him in the stomach. Leigh blasts Hatter away with his power and makes him slip into the pool. Hatter screams as he falls, Gary and Leigh both getting up.]
Gary: [strained] It feels like my brain is leaking.
Leigh: You’re fine, just… one sec.
[Leigh and Gary go towards the pool as Chelsea comes back into the pool.]
Chelsea: Liv’s left, got the hat. Where’s Hatter?
[Gunshots start shooting out of the pool, the three of them collapsing onto the ground.]
Hatter: [angry, crazed] Let me out of here you fucks! I swear to God when I get out of here, I’m gonna fucking murder you! I’m gonna kill you, then the Rabbit, then his kids! Are one of you his kids? Oh, he’s got his fucking kids going hasn’t he? Oh, the bastard!
[Leigh looks up from the ground at Gary, looking confused.]
Gary: [confused] I’m sorry, kids? There are kids now?

Leigh: [confused] Probably the guys who started the Storm. Let’s just… stay calm.
Hatter: [angry, crazed] I’m going to rip your heads off!
Chelsea: [angry] He just said calm down!
[Hatter starts to fire in Chelsea’s direction, making her scream.]
Leigh: [angry] Right, that’s it!
[Leigh places his hand on the ground and, suddenly, the gun shoots up into the air and collides with the ceiling. Gary stands up and moves over to the edge of the pool, hands out to catch the gun.]
Gary: I got it!
[The gun falls down towards Gary but Hatter suddenly pulls him down into the empty pool before he catches it.]
Leigh: [panicked] Gary!
[Gary quickly gets to his feet as Hatter swings at him, ducking before running down the pool. Hatter follows with a little prance, before leaping at Gary and grabbing his shirt collar. Leigh and Chelsea get up, Leigh pointing to the storage room.]
Leigh: [panicked] Hide in there.
Chelsea: [worried] Why?
Leigh: [panicked] Shits gonna get bloody.
[Leigh jumps down into the pool. Hatter throws Gary into the wall of the pool, making some tiles fall off of it. Leigh charges forward and tackles Hatter onto the ground.]
Gary: [strained] Yeah… get him mate…
[Leigh quickly sits up on top of Hatter and goes to punch him, but the Hatter moves his head and Leigh punches the tiles on the pool. He groans in pain as the Hatter grabs his head and headbutts him, knocking Leigh off. As Hatter is getting up, Gary runs over and kicks him in the face which knocks him back down. He helps Leigh to his feet and they both back away.]
Gary: [panicked] Be honest, do we have a plan?
Leigh: [nervous] Would it be cocky to say “win”?
Gary: [panicked] Yes!
Leigh: [nervous] Well then… win.
[Gary sighs as Hatter gets back up, wiping blood from his forehead. Leigh and Gary very quickly charge towards Hatter, giving a battle cry.]

The Aesir took her peace, they took her parents, and then they took her wife. Three years after her wife’s murder, she’s found a new life light years away from Earth. A happy one, most days, with a best friend and captain who understands her, and a shared mission to undo some of the damage the Aesir have done to the Universe and offer relief to anyone who needs it. But the past has a way of rising again. A surprise rescue mission brings Brenn face to face with her wife; delirious, ill, and scarred from the bullets Brenn thought had killed her, but very much alive with a newborn at her breast. A newborn whose very existence could mean intergalactic war. Now Brenn must balance her wife’s delicate mental health, new motherhood, and her own complicated feelings while working with her Captain and their odd bunch of friends and allies to protect her tiny family from a small, but influential group within the Aesir government who will stop at nothing to take back Brenn’s wife and child. All the while, there are whispers of a greater and more ancient power coming to life. A power Brenn’s wife knows more about than she wants to let on. It’s a good thing Brenn is used to fighting. CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
