《From beyond The Veil》Chapter 3 - Fear

My head was still throbbing from the night before. Beast. I growled just thinking about him. That bastard got the best of me. I should know better than to fight Eugene in a house. I should've coaxed him outside.
I rubbed my eyes in agitation. These stupid contact lenses sucked. But Reaper threatened to slice my arm off if I didn't keep them on. And I didn't feel like testing his anger again.
This school was a lot cleaner than ours. Debree wasn't scattered all over the place. They actually had functioning electricity and water. I was kinda jealous. These stupid dolls had way more then us. Then again they didn't exactly have feral Astrayens to worry about.
I looked over the sea of kids swarming around me. Memories of the kids at the pumpkin patch blared into my mind. The screams, the beatings. I could feel my heart racing a bit just thinking about it. I lowered the bill of my fedora over my eyes and trudged past everyone.
"I can't stand this place.." I grumbled.
I looked up and saw my room number. I raced into the classroom and found a desk in the back. It didn't take long for the rest of the dolls to come in. I tapped on my desk and scanned around. I couldn't even make eye contact with these schmucks. Everyone was glued to their phones.
"Bloody hell…" I mumbled. "This is gonna be boring."
I looked up as the teacher came in. The bell sounded off almost immediately after. He looked tired, like he was regretting coming in. I could relate. He was a bit on the chubby side. He had short fading brown hair with a receding hairline.
"Take out your homework from last week. I'll come around to pick it up." He called out to the class.
He walked to his desk upfront and took out a folder. Then proceeded to head over toward us. Then, for a brief moment. His eyes met mine. And that's when his fate was sealed.
School was just about to get a lot more fun. As the fool made his way over to me, I could see his face scrunch up like a prune. I took that moment to search his fears. Aaaaand he's lame like everyone else. Snakes, spiders, and commitment. The average fears of every man here apparently.
"No hat's in class." The teacher dryly stated.
He reached over and grabbed the top of my hat. I smirked as I allowed him to remove it. Normally I bite someone's hand off and blast them into nonexistence. But I had a goal here.
As he removed my hat. His eyes grew wide at the horrors before him. Snakes and spiders shot out and crawled out of my hair. The man squealed like a little girl and jumped back from me.
The spiders hopped around on the desks and the floors. Crawling over to the man. I flared my red eyes at him and stood up, snatching my hat from him. He fell back onto his butt and started sliding back.
"No! No! Stay back! Stay back!" He roared.
"Oh come on teach. It's like you've seen a ghost?"

I stopped and leaned down in front of him. My eyes blaring red from behind the contact's. The spider's crawled all over my face and body as the snakes slowly slithered around my head.
The guy was silent. He didn't say a word. His mouth was open like he was gonna say something, but nothing came out. He just shook and stared up at me in terror.
"Well then, I guess that's class dismissed." I chuckled as I stood up straight.
I didn't bother looking at anyone else. I just moved my fedora down over my eyes and headed out of the classroom. I guess I could raid the lunch room now.
….
Pizza, I hadn't had pizza since the last time I was in the human world. I happily walked down the halls munching on the pepperoni slice I just stole. I remember my sister was obsessed with this stuff.
I felt this warmth rising in my chest. I couldn't help but smile at the memory. I stared fondly at the slice. It was funny to me. This small greasy thing made me feel so relaxed. I bit down on the slice again.
Don't worry sis. I'll make sure you can have pizza again real soon. And we’ll be able to watch all the horror movies you like.
The bell rang and the halls soon became infested again. I just walked around and observed people for a bit. Waiting for the hordes to die down. As I was roaming around, I thought I saw someone familiar. I squinted my eyes and stared.
Aha! It was her! The girl we met yesterday! The interesting one. I watched as she was walking up the steps. She was about to pass this group of girls when one of them shoved her out the way.
The Blair girl stumbled and then fell down the steps. My eyes grew wide as I watched her right leg. Just snap off and fall down the steps with her. I could hear the echo of the leg fumbling around. It sounded plastic...a fake leg?
"That explains it.." I mumbled.
The entire hall went silent. Everyone was staring at her. While the girl who shoved her just watched and snickered a bit. The girl had carmel skin and long brown hair. Her clothes were annoyingly white and pink. It made me sick to look at. Everyone around stared for a bit in shock. Then they began to whisper amongst themselves. The Blair girl tried sitting up, she quickly scrambled for her leg again.
"Ha the loser can't even protect his pumpkin patch."
"I heard his dad got beat by a little human too!"
"I thought the pumpkin patch family was supposed to be strong!"
Their voices echoed in my mind. I was having flashbacks of home. I stared at her on the floor. She looked anxious and lost. The whole hall's eyes were beaming down on her and her leg.
I smirked.
"Humans…"
I snapped my finger's three times and started walking forward. All the lights from above began to flicker. The crowd's eyes all moved to the lights and as soon as I was underneath one. It exploded.

"I am the whispers you hear in the shadows of the night."
I kept walking forward as the next light fixture from above exploded again.
"I am the demon with the faded face. Here in a flash and gone without a trace."
Another one exploded.
"I am the banshee who screams into the night."
The last light exploded and I moved past the Blair girl. I made my way to the girl who shoved her. Taking out my contacts and letting my eyes be the only light she could see.
She seemed to be shaking as she took some steps back. But she ultimately tripped on the steps. Falling back on her butt. She looked around quickly trying to see who would aid her, but no one came. She hesitantly moved her head back to face me.
Bold choice.
"I am the demon who beckons at your thoughts. The voice in the back of your mind who says to end it all." I started to chuckle softly.
I leaned down toward her and moved inches from her face. Letting my red eyes stare into her very soul.
I could hear trickling from below. The girl peed her pants! I held back the intense laugh I had and just stared at her.
"Boo." I whispered.
Letting the voice bounce all around her. She shrieked and stumbled around as she ran up the steps. Leaving a trail behind her. Gross...
I just started laughing hysterically. That's what she gets! Pissing yourself in front of all these people. I turned around toward the Blair girl. She seemed star gazed staring up at me.
I smirked at her.
"I am the Diablo." I whispered to her.
She was speechless. My eyes looked around for a moment. Everyone was staring at me.
"This is your time to sneak away." I sent a voice over to whisper to her.
She nodded to me and started to sneak away from the crowd. While I laughed loudly. Sending the laugh out to everyone who caught my eye. Everyone was shaking in their boots now. And the Blair girl was gone.
Good. My work here is done. Everyone panicked and started running and screaming. I looked around me and I found the side door. I think I've had enough of school for one day.
I walked over to the door as I closed my eyes. Letting the screams of kids ease my mind. I snapped three times and the door in front of me made a cracking sound and broke off its hinges. Slamming down on the ground before me.
I stared up at the big blue sky and smiled. I was getting used to the blue colors.
"Huh, maybe the human world isn't gonna be so bad." I hummed. "Well I guess this'll be a good time to visit then. Wouldn't you say, Mom?"
I looked up and saw a cop car in the parking lot. I recall a lesson saying those were the guardians of this world. I bet they have a map!
Well, long story short not only did he have a map. But a computer with access to old and new cases. After a few illusions and scaring. I managed to convince him to dig up an old case for me.
I patted the top of the car hood.
"I appreciate this really," I chimed. "Now remember if you say a word."
I sent an illusion of a dead man next to him in the car. He had his throat slit open with the head barely hanging on. The head slowly rolled to the cop and groaned out.
"You'll regret it." The ghost groaned out.
His hands were shaking against the steering wheel. And I vanished from in front of him. Using my illusions to make me seem invisible. I about died laughing at his low curdles of fear.
And these were the humans supposed Guardians? No wonder they sent us here to help these guys out. But at least he had more interesting fears. I had a lot of fun with that one.
I started walking down the road. I wanted to fly, but I'd get found out too easily. I'm sure Casper or Beast is aware I donked up the school by now. I looked over the map where he circled for me. It would at least take me an hour or so if I walked.
I found a decent path through the woods I could take. Just in case Beast tried to follow me. He couldn't summon much in the woods. Plus they didn't know the area either. If they grabbed a map, I doubt they would know to take this route.
With that I headed out.
I tried my best to not think about it. I tried to just pay attention to the forest around me. However with each step, my hearts began to race more and more as I drew closer.
Look at that. I'm just as scared as everyone else has been today. I moved my hand to my hat and held it firmly in my hands.
I remember when you used to hold my hand when I got nervous like this. Lucile would make fun of me for crying at cheesy old horror flicks. But you would just hold my hand and tell me it was alright. That it was okay to be afraid. I wonder if you would say that now. Knowing that my number one fear is you.
"You're not a monster Allister."
Remembering her words sent shivers down my spine. I failed you Mom. I became exactly what you feared. I am a monster now. I had to become a monster. I just held my hat as I kept walking. It calmed my nerves when I did.
It didn't take long before I arrived. The old place was starting to look like an eyesore. The cream colored paint was worn and curled with age. Graffiti and broken windows riddled the place. All still wrapped up nicely with the police crossing tape.
Our house was surrounded by woods. The only neighbor being miles down the road. I remember Lucile complaining the whole ride here about how bad the internet was gonna be.
I moved my hands to my pockets and looked up at the two story house.
"Well Mom, I'm home."
