《Zero Sanity》Test 6: Locked

Still sleeping, I felt the warm embrace of the sun.
Aaaaah, this feels so good. Then an alarm clock woke me up, and the sun shone brightly.. I'm going to get ready for school now.
Wait, school? The sun? We're locked in here!
I quickly got out of bed and noticed that the light is shining really bright on the ceiling. Crap, I thought I was finally waking up from this nightmare. Even though I hated the sun, I really want to see it badly right now. I decided to dress up and checked my pockets if my picture was there. Good, it's still there.
After knowing that, I went out and saw Andy standing next to my door.
"Hey man, you're the only one left in your room. I heard the other guys just discovered something, come on, let's go ask them!"
"Alright."
He seems.. excited about this?
"Hey, why are you so excited about that discovery thing?"
"Because they the 2nd floor is open, you know, the one past the metal gate? It means that we're close to getting out of here!"
That was awfully optimistic, it made my heart ache. We still have 9 more games to complete. God, just the thought of it is gonna make me insane, considering if the games were like the one that we completed earlier.
"Anyway, let's go to the cafeteria! There's no one here so maybe they're there."
"Ok."
Inside, there were James, Jest, Paul, Reim, Vergil, Jane, and Gab, waiting for us.
"What the hell took you so long?"
"Why're you all here early?"
"I-I couldn't sleep, those robots are t-terrifying."
"Yeah, and also the thought of playing another one of those fucking games. It could be today, or tomorrow, I don't know."
Oh yeah, does the games come randomly? Or is it daily? Fuck, what am I asking, I wish it would never come.
"Anyway, I heard you guys found something, what is it?"
"The 2nd floor is open."
And so I've heard, but I'll just play along.
"Oh wow really?"
That wasn't exactly convincing..

"You already heard it? Did you already go there?"
"Yeah, I heard it from Andy, and no, I haven't yet."
"Alright, we're supposed to go there as a group. We need to work together, we don't know what's up there."
I saw James have this disgusted look all over his face while Jest was saying that. Why? Well anyway, I know that guy means it, he was crying and probably traumatized due to yesterday's events. He won't be causing trouble knowing that he can't survive alone, so I know he means it.
"Alright, let's go!"
Going to that long hallway again, I remembered the game and said,
"Fuck that, I'm never going inside there."
At the end was the door and the staircase. We all went together going up and opened the door to the 2nd floor.
What?
There was nothing special about it, at all. It's like a normal school floor, just like the 1st floor. The only peculiar thing, which I suspected from the start, was the locked room. The other guys went on and tried to find any clues about the experiment and so I did too.
There were 2 classrooms, a trophy room and the teacher's rooms.
The classrooms were identical to the ones on the first floor, but there's one detail that makes it different from them. These classrooms all have messages colored in red written on the wall. It says:
"The past is just a memory."
And the other one says:
"But memories can be haunting."
Jane and the twins investigated this part of the 2nd floor, and when I got here, they were already analyzing the text.
"Maybe these messages are related to our memories?"
"Maybe, but I doubt I did something bad in the past."
"How can you be so sure?"
"We're probably NEETs based on our memories. We're at home and there was a TV and a computer turned on so Reim over here thinks we are."
"I-I don't think she's a NEET though, I think I'm the only one.. She is super athletic."
"Nooo, how could you say that?"

"You ran really fast during the game and didn't even break a sweat. Then, you came back and held my hand then ran, again. Also when we're alone, you talk nonstop. It's a miracle that I can endure it."
"Awwww, sis. I'm perfectly aware. *Smiles*"
"That makes you more annoying."
I didn't even get noticed while I went inside the classroom. Jane and Reim was frowning and she was very annoyed by Vergil, who was talking constantly. She's probably comfortable talking with Jane, because she rarely talks to us. So I investigated both classrooms and left. The next one I went to is the trophy room.
The trophies were just ordinary, they were all trophies from sports. Andy and Paul are inside the room, and was mesmerized by the trophies.
"Hey, Andy."
"Oh, hey, I didn't see you there, sorry."
"No, no, it's fine, why are you staring at the trophies though."
"My name is in them."
...
...
"Your name?!?"
"Yeah, take a look."
"..."
"I'm just messing with ya, I really want to get one of these. I really like sports."
"*Sighs* Alright, How about you, Paul?"
"I'm just keeping him company and I'm going to try and investigate this room, but it's so freaking dark. I don't want to stumble and break something so I'll just roam around outside."
Then Paul left, and Andy, again, was just staring at the trophies. I can't find something here anyway, I doubt there's something valuable in here.
I'm not really into sports. I was particularly good in science, though, but I was also good in playing video games. You know, I'd rather play those games instead of the games here, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees with me. Next, I went to the teacher's room.
The Teacher's room was spacious. Inside the room was Jest, James and Gab. I guess they went straight here and investigated the room. Instead of investigating the room, I just asked them.
"Hey, Jest, found anything yet?"
"I looked through the list of teachers inside a portfolio next to a computer over there. All the teachers are marked "X". Not gonna lie, I think they were killed by him. Also, he didn't announce something today, is he planning something?"
"I-I don't know, and I tend not to think about him planning. There's a possibility that we're all up for something really deadly, and that's what scares me."
"The teachers here are definitely dead." said James.
"There's one computer working, and the only files inside them are about the teachers and some students. They are all classified as "deceased"."
"W-well we can't mourn over the dead if we're going to die too, so let's all try and survive." said Gab.
"Plus they can't be dead, we don't even know these guys, maybe they're all a ploy by him to terrify the shit out of us." said James, proudly.
"Yeah, you're right."
But what if it's real? Maybe they're all dead? There are killer fucking robots here, maybe they did kill them.
I try not to think about it too much, and we all just left the teacher's room. Lastly, we tried to examine the locked room. We all gathered infront of it, and we tried to observe it first, until James got angry and tried to open it, then we all heard a sound, a sound of a TV starting up, coming from the trophy room.
There was a monitor turned on inside, I couldn't see it before because there weren't any lights in the room. Fuck, there was really something in there? I know Paul didn't notice anything, he left before I did, so maybe Andy noticed?
Wait, no.
I remembered he was also busy freaking staring on the trophies, it was pointless asking him. Then, the monitor is here, and as we all terrifyingly guessed, he showed up.
"Hey, did you guys feel lonely without me?~
Don't worry, I'll compensate for it, I'll open the locked room and the 3rd floor. How about that? I'll do it tomorrow if you do what I want~
As that puppet guy in a movie once said-
Let's play a game."

Unliving
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon, November 2021] For the longest time, Aideen Fiachna had only one prescient wish; to be the daughter her parents could take pride in. The idea was a tall order, especially as her father stood at the head of the Templar order, and her grandfather as the Pope. However, she endeavored to try nonetheless. Yet fate had a different path in store for her. For all her efforts, all her best laid plans, were but the broken off crumbs of 'one day'. That day, she was brutally slain by a vile, accursed undead being. Though, not even restful eternity awaited her in death. She awakened inside a coffin. Her coffin. During her own funeral wake. Discovering, to her horror, that she had risen. Not somehow resurrected, no, but back in the form of that most hated of beings--the curse of undeath. What will fate deal her next? Chapters will range from 1-2.5k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday. --------------------------------------- Expect: -Character progression in a journey of self discovery that spanned the ages -World building -Tragedy and Comedy in roughly equal measures -Occasional action Do not expect: -Much in terms of romance -Politics, barring passing views and mentions -A lighthearted tale. This story will be a good bit grimmer than my previous one Any comments, reviews, and criticism will be much appreciated. And thank you for reading. --------------------------------------- Disclaimer: This story is my original work and only posted on the Royal Road website. 8 152Elder Cultivator
Anton is a great-grandfather. He is living quite a happy life, despite his advanced age and declining health… until a group of cultivator bandits moves into the area. The nearby guardians of the area, the Order of Ninety-Nine Stars, are unable to track them down as they continue to ravage nearby towns. During one desperate winter Anton is out on a hunt when his family- his entire village- is killed or taken as slaves by the bandits. He lacks the strength to fight them, and he wasn’t even present for their arrival to die with his loved ones. At the pit of his despair, he wonders if he ever had any chance to change things. What could he even do? He cannot even pull his best bow, and his eyesight is failing. If he had been a cultivator… perhaps there might have been a chance, but he was decades- perhaps even most of his life- too late. Notes on cultivation levels: There are five general stages of cultivation, though the fifth is extremely rare. Each cultivation style might have their own name for the stages. 1. Body Tempering 2. Spirit Building/ occasionally System Creation (Ninety-Nine Stars) 3. Constellation Formation (Ninety-Nine Stars) 4. Life Transformation/Galaxy Construction (Ninety-Nine Stars) 5. Ascension Cover picture courtesy of gej302.
