《Zero Sanity》Test 3: Hide

After waking up from that weird dream last night, I slept comfortably. To be honest, I never would've want to wake up but I guess I'd have to face reality. Fuck, waking up, getting kidnapped and then being subjected to an experiment with unknown purposes is the reality I had to deal with, starting today. The speakers on our room turned on, and bombarded us with loud annoying noises that forced me and everyone to get out our rooms.
"What the hell are those noises?"
"I don't know, let's just get the fuck out of here!"
All of us scattered and found different places in the school. There was the cafeteria, the 1st floor classrooms, the staircase leading up to the other floors but it was closed. I think I played a game like this, when the floors are closed and everytime you complete a trial, it opens but I don't really know, I can't remember anything. From the video that the man displayed on the monitor, I'm guessing there are 10 floors here, because each floor contains a locked room except for the floor we are at.
"Hey, stop blanking out, dude! Let's go meet up with the other guys, they already went to the cafeteria!"
"Yeah, okay."
Everyone was waiting and it seems that James was here too, well, he doesn't even have a choice here, if he wants to get out, then he'll come and get our help anyway.
"So I guess we'd better tell what we found so I'll start. There were 3 classrooms here and that's it. No weird stuff, just boring classrooms. Hell, the classrooms looks new. There were just seats, a whiteboard, and a teacher's table. I'd confuse myself if there were no number plates on the room because they look identical. Other than that, there's nothing."
"On the other hand, the cafeteria has a fuck ton of stocked food. So I guess we shouldn't be worrying about dying of hunger."
"And there were locked staircases, like they're blocked by a metal gate or something. The rooms that the fucker displayed weren't here in the 1st floor, so I'm guessing that the rooms are above."

They gave more detail about the places that were here in the 1st floor. Then, hearing his voice, we all trembled again.
"Heeey, did you guys miss me?"
"I doubt anyone did."
"The 1st official D-Game is starting! Are you guys excited? Because I'm sure you're not! So now, I'm going to explain the game and its rules, because I can't have you all dying just yet."
"Wait what?!"
"Dying?!?"
Shit, my nervousness skyrocketed. My hands and feet are shaking, and so is everyone here. I guess we're thinking about the same thing, so we calmed down, sat down, and listened to the fucking madman on screen.
"Here are the rules, you guys will have to work together to get the flag. It's like those capture the flag gamemodes, but here, you all don't want to be caught. I'm mixing capture the flag, Hide and seek, and apparently Permadeath! HAHAHAHA, God, it means if you get caught, you die. Work together, and you get to live and participate on my wonderful experiment for another day and for another game. By the way, 9 people vs 1 robot isn't fair, so I'm putting 2 robots, basically handicapping myself here, and also the robots have guns."
"W-what the fuck.."
"Don't worry though, they're handguns. I programmed to shoot whatever's moving, so that raises the stakes a little bit higher, don't you think? Working together is the best option here but I guess it's up to you guys. You all saw the metal gate, right? Head there and lets start the game early!"
"I-I'm not going."
"M-me neither, it's not like he's forcing us to play the games."
"I'm giving you 30 minutes and 2 choices to think about. Head there and play, or, you know, don't head there and get decapitated. My robots will be coming shortly in 30 minutes, and if you try to hide, they'll still know. They can trace heat signatures. Don't worry though, I'm not giving them those abilities in the game, so either play the game and have chances of dying, or 100% guaranteed death by staying here."

None of us wanted to die. None of us wanted to be here but we all have to do this for some reason. Why? Why pick us? Questions and the idea of death scared me. I wanted to live, and everyone here agrees me with me, so we all hurriedly rushed to the metal gate that's now opened.
There was a really, really long hallway, and at the end of that hallway was a locked staircase and a door. The thought of this place being my school disappeared, because, who the fuck has a hallway this long in a school? The staircase leading up to the 2nd floor is visible but it's blocked by a see-through metal gate. The door opened, everyone went in, and the door just closed shut. It's probably a good thing, the robots won't come and get us in here and we only need to worry about the robots inside that can ultimately almost do the same thing. But we were all dumbfounded from what we saw beyond the door. A giant warehouse, with a flag on top of the box in the center. Questions, again, flooded my mind.
I mean, what? A school connecting to a warehouse? Fuck, where are we and how couldn't anyone notice this big, covered school and a warehouse, a giant warehouse, connecting to it?
I'll ask that question later, if I get a "later".
"Welcome, my dear test subjects. Now, should we start the game? Let me just give you a rundown about the rules. Hide and Capture the flag. Any actions you do in the warehouse won't be penalized, I don't really care about the robots, you can dismantle them, burn them, destroy them, I don't give a fuck. Once the flag has been captured, the robots will stop and the door will be opened once again. Any killer robots outside will be gone once the door opens anyway. The game will be starting in 10 seconds."
The door on the other side opened and revealed 2 robots. They look like him but the number 9 is on their face with a big, cartoon like smile. They're like creatures from a nightmare, which if it is, then please let me wake up.
"Guns don't fit them, do they? I guess I'll be replacing them for the next game. The game will be starting now. Also, I never really introduced myself yet, so I, Skin, welcomes you all to the 1st D-Game. Have fun."
"Can anyone punch me right now?"
"Why?"
"Because we're in a warehouse, playing a game with 2 Smilebots or something, and did I mention we have a 50% chance or dying. I can't tell if all of this is real, or I'm just really insane. If its real, well I might as well be losing myself to insanity right now."
"Yeah, and they say they have 9 rooms? So do we need to endure 9 games just like this?"
"Would you guys shut the fuck up? There are only 2 robots, and this is a giant warehouse, I doubt that the robots can get all of us."
"Yeah, as much as I hate it, I'm agreeing with James."
"You all know what he said, if we capture the flag, that means we win, so guys, we don't really have much of an option here. We must work together."
"Umm, I-I have a plan."
"THEN TELL IT! WE'RE WASTING TIME!"
"Ok, umm, so-"
"The Game will commence in 5..
"They have guns, right? Then we should start running and find a spot, otherwise we're dead."
"Yeah, I guess so. We'll stick with Vergil's plan, ok?"
"Wait, no-"

"Shut it, we're fucking running."

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
