《Rising of the Red Tide》Chapter 13 (Part 3)

Han Xin nursed his wound in the car. He had felt pain like this before, after all of the experiments that went on. So he had experience in pushing this pain out of his mind. He placed a bandage over his injured ankle to prevent any kind of infection, he knew tomorrow all would be fine again.
Xin's mind now switched over to anger. He clearly had a major problem. He was left with a total of 12 soldiers, including himself. They were being chased by a group that could clearly fight on their level and didn't know how many troops were in this group. On top of all this, Qi Lian was still alive, still out there somewhere.
Qi Lian needed to die. Han Xin needed to avenge the death of Qi Lee. Killing Qi Wei had only brought a minimal amount of satisfaction, he now needed to eliminate Qi Lian and Clayton Johnson. This was the only way to avenge her death. At this point this was all that Han Xin cared about.
Han Xin knew he needed to revise his original plan now, but how? If this group of superior American forces was coming here how could he kill them all? He needed a way to drop the nuclear weapons and kill these troops while at the same time not kill his own.
In the end, this was all the fault of Qi Lian, wasn't it? She slowed down his mission. If he hadn't wasted his precious time chasing her his plan could have been executed flawlessly. Undoubtedly this American force would have been destroyed, wouldn't it have? Yes of course this was all Qi Lian's fault. All the more reason for her to die.
Qi Jiguang broke the silence with, "Sir do you want us to sweep the hospital now?"
Han Xin looked up. He had been so deep in thought that he hadn't realized that they had arrived at the hospital.
"Yes Qi Jiguang, we are going now. Any word on the American nuclear football?" Xin asked.
"They have been unable to crack the 7th layer of security. Apparently this is the toughest AI that we have come across. They are making progress, but are still unable to fool it at this point." Qi Jiguang answered.

"How is the travel to America coming? We need them here in Plattsburgh as soon as possible." Han Xin said.
"It is coming quite slowly. Some of our men have not made it past the initial stages as far as we can tell. They of course have to keep moving to avoid detection, so there has been no waiting for those who have been potentially left behind. I have heard that some have already left Europe by plane, so they should cross the American border shortly. However there are no direct flights from Europe to Plattsburgh, so they will still have some time before they arrive here." Qi Jiguang explained.
"Make sure they come here as rapidly as is possible. We must prepare for battle with the American troops." Han Xin ordered.
"Yes sir." Qi Jiguang replied.
The 12 Red Tide soldiers entered the hospital building. It was small as there was no need for it to be large. A declining population in this area made it unnecessary to have a large hospital. When the soldiers reached the inside it was clear that parts of the building were falling into disrepair. This hospital was struggling to survive financially. It was unlike any hospital these soldiers had ever been in.
Han Xin stopped to look at the map of the hospital. He noticed it had three floors.
"OK we will split into groups of 4, each group of 4 will explore a floor. I want every room checked. Every nook and cranny must be explored. If you find a locked janitors closet, you break the door down. Do you understand?"
"Yes sir." The Red Tide soldiers said in unison.
"Remember that Qi Lian is crafty, I would imagine if possible she would avoid seeing a doctor. She might try to tend to her own wounds with medical supplies. So be diligent in checking the supply rooms. Now go!"
Han took his group of 4 to the second floor. They fanned out in order to rapidly check each room. Xin realized this might take a while, as there were many rooms. He turned to the first door on his right. He checked the doorknob and it was unlocked, so he walked in. Han Xin found several beds separated by curtains. He proceeded to check behind each curtain.

Behind the first curtain Xin found a sleeping elderly woman. He moved on to the second curtain and behind it he found a familiar face. The young man looked terrified to see him.
"Ah if it isn't my old friend Jake. Do not be afraid Jake, if I wanted you dead you would be already. But I have one more question for you, have you seen my friends that I was looking for, here in the hospital?" Han Xin asked.
Jake shook his head no, while sitting up tensely in his bed.
"That is too bad Jake." Han Xin said while walking away.
Xin proceeded to check the rest of the beds behind each curtain. There was no sign of Qi Lian or Clayton Johnson. So he moved on to the next room limping now to favor his injured ankle.
The next room that Xin came across was a janitors closet. This door was locked, so Xin looked around and when he was sure no one was looking he used his strength to rip the door open, breaking the metal sliding lock in the process. Inside Xin found nothing but janitors supplies. Quietly he closed the door and moved on.
As he walked further down the hallway he continued looking around, until he was stopped by a nurse.
"Is there something I can help you with? You look a little lost." The nurse asked.
"Oh yes, I would be quite grateful if you could tell me if you have seen my sister here. I am not sure what kind of injury she sustained but she came here with her boyfriend, he is African American. Have you seen them?" Han Xin implored.
"No, I haven't seen them, but I work with infants. You could ask the receptionist at the desk down the hall. I am not sure that they will tell you though because of HIPPA." The nurse replied.
"Oh well thank you very much for your time." Han Xin said, moving further down the hallway.
Han Xin decided to walk the full length of the hospital, checking every room first before checking in with the receptionist. After completing this task he came back and talked with her.
"Ma'am could you please tell me if my sister has been checked in here. I would really like to see her?" Han Xin asked.
"Hun don't call me ma'am, my mother is ma'am, I am Heidi. And unless you are a designated person, I can't give you that information. Updated HIPPA rules you understand." Heidi replied.
"OK, I understand. I have another question, perhaps you can answer this one. Where would someone go if they didn't come to this hospital for care?"
"Well hun, the only other place I can think of in Plattsburgh is that place just off the exit, Plattsburgh family health."
"Thank you for your time." Xin said, walking away.
"Have all the floors been checked?" Han asked over his watch communicator.
"Yes sir, we have checked everything." Qi Jiguang answered.
"Let us go and check out this Plattsburgh family health." Xin said.
"Sir, Sir, you need to stop right there. You are going to have to pay for all that damage you caused to our building." A security officer said to Han Xin.
"I don't think so." Han Xin responded.
The security officer reached over and grabbed Han Xin by the shoulder. Xin responded by reaching over and lifting him up with one hand. He then threw the security officer against the wall and proceeded to walk out the door.

The boy who fell in love with a tree
This is a story about a boy who fell in love with a tree… A story about powerful people changing the rulebook to stack the odds and line their pockets… I aim to create a story that will transport us so we get a glimpse of what that boy felt. The first 4 Chapters might be classified as a prologue depending on how you look at it. The boy quickly grows and the story really starts when the System arrives on Earth. I’m trying to achieve a relatively slow power progression and guide what we learn at a pace following the people in the story. There will be fighting but It’s more focused on base building. The MC is not all-powerful and all-knowing but he has some significant advantages. I’m trying to create a universe that makes sense in its own context. Much of what you will find, are my own world views, in a magnified way, as to make it for interesting fiction. The story took a life of its own when I started to write and I’m really happy with it. Not all of the tags I have marked will immediately be applied. There is stuff planned for far in the future such as the Sci-fi tag. There might be some cursing and gore but it is not very often. -------------- English is not my primary language, so I ask everyone to be forgiving. If you see a glaring error I would appreciate a msg but it is not feasible to fix everything. And if the story offends you, I wish you happiness, reading what you enjoy. ------------- Img link: https://unsplash.com/photos/EwKXn5CapA4
8 283A Broken Power: Godreaper’s Judgement Book 1
Jack is just a low-class American who has an unfortunate encounter with a heavenly soldier that warns of a coming calamity. The warring factions of heaven are coming to conquer and enslave. If he wants a place for his family in the coming world, he will have to carve it there with his own two hands. Jack will do anything and everything to save the good people that he loves, but does that make him a good person, or is it the opposite? The mundane world is disappearing as Earth is introduced to the larger universe where personal power is everything. A high concept Cultivation story with a fast-paced progression.
8 149Trial of Champions
It all began with a family trip to an amusement park. How were any of us to expect being transported from Earth to participate in some "Trial of Champions," whatever that was supposed to be? Given only an hour to choose the Classes that would come to define our strengths, we were almost immediately torn away from one another and thrust into a deadly game of survival. It wasn't all bad, though, as terrifying as it could be from time to time. The supernatural and magical powers of the Classes were like something out of an RPG, complete with leveling up by killing monsters and completing so-called "Sub-Trials." And despite the juicy Experience to be gained from killing other Champion Contestants, not all of the participants were bloodthirsty murderers; some could be allied with, or even befriended. Even if it seemed like everyone who had been chosen for this Trial, no matter what universe they came from, was at least a little bit crazy. I would survive this till the end, and I'd make sure that my siblings and parents did as well, no matter how many times we were separated from one another. No matter how long it took. No matter what I had to do. --- A first-person litRPG incorporating classes inspired by D&D and other sources. If you like blue boxes but don't need to have huge lists of numbers to scratch your itch, you should be satisfied on that front. Each chapter is, in my word processing document, seven pages long (approximately 3300-3900 words). The Traumatizing Content warning is there because of discussions of certain topics. Nothing that I think deserves the warning actually happens in the story.
8 94Skyfall
A mysterious machine fell from the heavens and into this world of might and magic. Armed with weapons and destructive powers never seen before by the mortals of this realm, the fallen colossus decimated all that stood in its way. And without the guidance of its warden, the machine was left to its own vices. Will the machine destroy this newfound world or will it change this world anew? Only time will tell.
