《Chaos Sequence》Chapter 38: Got me feeling blue

On the US side of things, Team A had gone further into the facility and scoured through many empty rooms but fortunately for them there were still more rooms to go so they continued to power through it until it was time for them to head back and meet up with the others.
"You think Team Thunderstruck Death Typhoon will be okay?" Guard, who was appointed as the second-in-command of the group, asked.
"Urgh that name could use a little work, I mean the attitude and style is great but the anagram just doesn't work... TDT... just saying it makes my mouth feel wrong." Savage scoffed.
"Don't you mean abbreviation sir? Uh ma'am?"
"What's that Corporal Guard?" She raised an eyebrow at him.
"TDT... that's an abbreviation, basically a shortened form of something. An anagram is like if you rearrange the letters in a word to get a different word." Guard explained to his superior.
This realization shook the Captain, she had been using it wrong this entire time and no one had corrected her on it. That can only mean one thing. Everyone in her unit is dumber than her since they didn't mention anything about it Savage thought to herself, she's been leading a group of varyingly trained soldiers who didn't understand what an abbreviation is.
"That's the only explanation..." She said to herself. "So that's why we've been stuck at a standstill with the UCNA."
"Because of an abbreviation?" Lacking the supernatural abilities of a telepath, Guard had a hard time following along with his Captain but through deductive reasoning he knew what troubled her. "Don't worry! UCNA is more of a mouthful to say compared to USA and we can shorten it even more to US! We have a better abbreviation than those guys."
"Yeah man! The UCNA is totally ripping us off too." Cid joined in. "... now that I think about it's strangely close to the UNA, maybe they copied the Australians?"
"Maybe they're both copying us!" Guard snapped his finger like he figured out a long lasting mystery.
The two carried on with their discussion on the art of abbreviation and how other countries are stealing things from the USA. Meanwhile Emma methodically cleared each room by herself thinking about how she should've asked to join the other team instead of sticking with this one.
Suddenly a sharp sound caught their attentions. It was up ahead in the pitch black darkness, a small dim blue glow managed to pierce through it giving away that there was something there. The sounds faded away but they still picked up the pace as they made their way forward ignoring the remaining doors, with each step the light grew larger as it revealed a new section of the facility. It comparatively made the previous area look like it was built by people who got their understanding of building by watching war documentaries.

"Well I didn't expect this..." Emma's mouth was left agape as she gazed at this hidden marvel, this part clearly had power since the lights are still on.
The team proceeded to wander around the area to see if they could find anything else, Cid knocked on one of the white metal walls. "This place is sleek! The government boys would lose their minds when they hear about this!"
They still had a few minutes left before they had to meet back up with the other team so they decided to go a little further in.
"It's spotless. Do you think someone is still here to clean this place?" Emma wondered.
"Maybe they have an automatic vacuum cleaner or maybe the walls are self-cleaning! We could take this tech back to the US and become pioneers of the self-cleaning wall industry!" Guard's thought drifted towards entrepreneurship.
Despite being stuck underground for a long time it remained in pristine condition, this only serves to raise Emma's suspicion of the facility. As she tries to gather her thoughts the others banged on the walls and barged into rooms like they own the place, if anyone was still here they would've noticed them by now.
Another thing Emma noted was how strangely quiet the US soldier Mirabelle was at least compared to how lively the others in her group are. She was always straggling behind the group as if she was stalking someone and Emma was sure that she never saw her blink once. In the end all she could do was chalk it up to androids having a variety of personalities and she just got stuck with the weird one.
"We're still not sure if this place has any defense systems." Everyone was too relaxed so Emma reminded them to be cautious.
All Guard had was a pistol so if a fight did break out he wasn't confident in how well he can assist the group. But that was alright he preferred using a pistol due to their relation with hitmen and cool action movie characters, assault rifles invoke the appearance of tough soldiers and that didn't appeal to him. People that use pistols tend to be very suave and stylish, if he were to die he would prefer to die looking as cool as possible.
"We should go back and tell Team Thunderstruck Death Typhoon about this, right Mirabelle?" Guard looked up at his fellow teammate.

"Kill."
"Mirabelle agrees!" He smiled. "It's about time anyways, I wonder what they've found."
Before they could even start to head back the sounds returned, it was like if someone took a rake and scraped it over a blackboard. It rang loud in their heads and came down from one of the halls.
"Whatever that is, it doesn't sound friendly. Everyone get some cover and watch that corner!" Savage called them to action, something was coming as the sound keeps getting closer with each passing second.
Lucky for them the hall was littered with couches and tables that made for good cover, they flipped them over to reinforce their position as fast as they could to prepare for whatever was coming at them. Cid and Guard hoped that it was a group hallucination and that they all imagined the same terrible sounds. They still kept their finger on the trigger as they aimed down their sights, the thing making those sounds was close.
"Hey... do you think it's a gho-" Cid immediately shut his mouth as he pulled the trigger. Out from the corner of the hall came ghastly blue figures that trudged towards them, every shot that hit them caused sparks of electricity to blast right out of them. The rest followed his cue and started firing except for Mirabelle who kneeled in place and kept staring at the corner.
The figures returned fire by raising their hands and shot out small balls of energy at them, they clearly weren't aiming their shots as they flew wildly around them hitting everything else from the walls to the ceiling. The problem came from the massive number of them pouring through.
"Did I take any of them down?" Shouted Cid as he took cover to reload his weapon.
"I-I don't know!" Emma wasn't sure what she was shooting at, it was a wave of blue and if one were to go down it would have been instantly replaced by another similar figure.
"I for one will not be deterred by an army of blueberry-pomegranate flavoured soldiers!" Savage got up and tossed 3 grenades at them.
Without a shred of fear they marched over the grenades and continued to shoot at their targets. That is until the grenades went off which enveloped those in front in a wreath of fire causing them to dissipate into thin air. They took a noticeable amounts of damage as they couldn't fully recover their frontline due to the flames still raging on.
"Way to go Captain!" Guard clapped his hands as he watched the spectacle.
"No time to rest yet! Keep going!" She barked at her soldiers.
The wave of enemy begins to falter under the constant barrage of bullets, numbers mean nothing when they are all cramped inside a hallway.
Just when it seems that they were winning a figure that towered over the rest forced its way through the crowd unaffected by the fire and bullets, it took aim and fired a giant bolt of electricity which hit Mirabelle causing her to fall backwards to the ground causing a small rumble as she dented the floor.
Savage crawled towards her to make sure she was okay. "You good Corporal?"
"Destroy." She replied, it seems she didn't take any damage but the force of that shot had enough power in them to knock her off her feet.
With the giant figure leading the charge, the enemies received a second wind and began pushing towards them again.
"I think all of them are here man!" Cid shouted as he rolled out of his cover which was then destroyed by a blast of energy.
"Yeah... they've only been coming from that one hall..." Savage had reached a decision. "It's not cowardly to tactically retreat so let's RUUUN!"
The team broke cover as they made a break for it down the hallway with shots whizzing past them. Savage was the first to make it down the hall and she turned back to cover the rest of her squad as they ran, the enemy had reached their makeshift cover and destroyed what little remains of it. They weren't sure what direction they were going in but they took their chances.
