《Miracle Angeliva》Chapter 4 - Dinner

“Ahaha, it must be love at the first sight! Ooh, even if you don’t go to school with your new hairstyle, there is one who has fallen over heels for you!”
“…”
Mir couldn’t respond. She was having a mild headache at the moment. No matter how much she enjoyed the accompany of others, when the others talked too much, she couldn’t help but get a little headache. Not to mention, when there were two who talked on different wavelength beside her.
That was right. Besides the ghost, the second one who talked beside her was Orion, the boy who the ghost saved previously.
He stopped Mir as Mir guessed he had his misunderstanding earlier. So, Mir tried to ignore him. But in the end, she couldn’t ignore him all the time as the boy followed her incessantly. If she kept ignoring him, the boy might follow her to her house without fail. So, she decided to stop and listened to what he wanted to say.
The first part was alright. The boy said his gratitude to Mir. And Mir nodded as her response. Although she didn’t do anything, the ghost urged her to nod as her response. So, she did it.
The boy introduced himself as Orion to Mir. Mir didn’t really care about his name or his origin. It was the ghost who was interested in him. As for Mir, she only wanted to get home as soon as possible because it was kind of cold out here.
She wanted to say goodbye, but never said such a thing in her life to a boy of her age, she didn’t know how to tell him. In the end, she silently listened to the boy as the boy said a lot of things she didn’t understand.
“…that was a psychic power, wasn’t it? Wow, I can’t believe psychic power is real! Uuuughhh, I really want to have physic power like psychokinetic, but no matter how I try to bend a spoon, the spoon is not bent at all! But you can easily make a trash can exploded from, what, a hundred meters away? That’s so cool!”
“Ahahaha, listen to him talking about superpower like a kid! Isn’t he interesting? Don’t you think so as well? Well, that is why I followed him and his brother for a few days. Unfortunately, I never went to your school because I thought school is boring. Tsk, if only I followed him to your school, we would have a fateful encounter sooner!”
“Right, can you tell me how to train your power? I really really really want to have power like that! No, even if I can’t have such power, is it alright for us to be friends? I mean, a friend of Superman… no, a Wonder Woman! Isn’t that cool?”
“Or Miracle girl! I’m not teasing you, alright? It sounds cool, that’s all! But boy, you sure do have a lot of imagination. By the way, even if you don’t respond to him, he just kept talking, huh? Even I can’t do something like that. This boy sure has a talent!”
“Ugh, I think it’s too cold out here…. Unlike you, I don’t have a superpower so it’s too cold for me. But you… I believe psychokinetic is not your only ability, is it? You must have pyrokinesis as your ability as well! That’s how you make your body warm!”

“Oh, he thought you don’t feel cold at all! What an inconsiderate boy. Well, seeing your cold expression, it is easy to see that you are not bothered by the cold. Why don’t you try singing ‘the cold never bothered me anyway’ or something like that? Ahaha.”
“…enough.” Mir finally couldn’t withstand them chattering together at the same time. She held her temple and rubbed it.
“Master, is it the backlash of your superpower ability? I saw people having nosebleeds after using their ability, are you going to be fine?” The boy asked worriedly. Though what he saw was people from movies...
“Oho, listen to him calling you Master out of blue! He must really want to be your students!” The ghost was teasing Mir incessantly as it flew between Mir and Orion over and over again. It looked like a kindergarten boy that teased the girl that he liked...
“…” Mir sighed in exasperation. She decided to ignore them. She turned around and started walking back to her home. Naturally, the two of them followed her from behind. And naturally, they kept talking incessantly as they walked behind her.
Mir was good at ignoring people. After all, she ignored all the ghosts that attacked her every time her emotion turned negative. So, this time, she also ignored the two of them as she continued walking to her home.
And soon, she arrived. And the two chatterboxes were still talking behind her. She stopped, turned around, and looked at the boy. “…home.”
“Is this your home? Master, you don’t stay in a villa in the mountain? Or a cabin in the wood? Oh, this must be one of your bases, isn’t it?” The image of a person with a supernatural power in Orion's mind was those who became something like a hermit. They stayed in a mountain, trained under a waterfall every morning, eating fog to survive... well, something impossible like that.
“…home.” Mir repeated once again. The boy looked confused, but in the end, he decided to play along with her. In some contemporary settings, there were also people with supernatural ability that worked under an organization and so they lived in a base prepared by the organization. It was not a big deal whether it was truly her home or not.
“So, this is your house. As expected of someone as great as you! I can’t imagine that you live with us mortals in this kind of place!” He said with excitement in his voice.
Mir was exasperated. She wanted to say that she had arrived at her home, so Orion should leave as soon as possible. But it seemed Orion couldn’t take the clue at all. And the ghost didn’t help her at all. It only laughed as it watched the misunderstanding between them.
Mir was thinking of a way to explain what she was thinking when the door of her house was opened. A woman that looked almost similar to Mir opened the door. Though she looked a bit older than Mir. It was her mother, so it was normal for her to look so similar to Mir. Except, she had pretty long hair, something that Mir decided to cut just today.
“Is that you, Mir? Oh, you change your hairstyle? And you are…”
“…mom.”
“I am her new friend! My name is Orion! She saved me from a group of delinquents earlier and so, I decided to become her best friend! Nice to meet you, Mom!” Orion bowed politely.

Mir opened her mouth as if she wanted to retort. No, actually, she had retorted inside her mind.
…I didn’t save you. The ghost is the one who saved you. Also, if you tell my mother that I saved you from the group of delinquents, she must think that I am weird… no, she must think that I called cops or something like that. No, more importantly, why do you call her Mom? Do you want her to be your Mom? No, are you actually nervous? Do you think that her name is Mom?
Those thoughts flashed in an instant inside Mir’s head, but she couldn’t say them out loud. As for her mother, she didn’t think much about it. She covered her mouth and giggled softly.
“It’s cold outside. Mir, why don’t you invite your best friend, Orion, to have dinner with us?”
“…” Mir didn’t reply. She couldn’t reply because when she looked at Orion’s eyes, she saw a gleaming light inside his eyes. And because of that, she couldn’t say no.
“…enter.”
“Thank you for having me!” Orion said with his emotion painted in his eyes.
“Hey, what about me? You will let me enter too, will you?” The ghost asked, though when Mir entered the house, the ghost already entered behind her as well.
“…nn.” Mir nodded without looking back. She put her schoolbag in her room and after that, she helped her mother preparing dinner. As for Orion, he was waiting in the living room with the ghost behind him. The ghost and Orion were doing something on Orion’s phone. Well, mostly Orion did something on his phone while the ghost was watching him.
Mir took a glance at them as he brought the plate out. It seemed they were quite close if only Orion could see the ghost. Well, the ghost seemed like it could be close to anybody. Even to someone like Mir who didn’t like to talk.
Mir returned to the kitchen, only to find her mother's stern stare. She had her hands on her waist as she glared at Mir. Mir gulped involuntarily as she was faced with her mother’s glare.
“It seems that our little Mir has a really big secret~.” Her mother said casually. However, Mir knew that her mother was not as casual as she tried to sound.
“…”
“So, you saved that little boy? Please do tell me how you saved him. I believe you didn’t call the cops, right?”
As expected of her mother. Mir thought that her mother would think that she was calling the cops to save Orion. But in reality, her mother knew her the best. It would be impossible for someone as quiet as Mir to talk to the cops.
“…secret?” Mir tried to avoid the topic. There were two reasons why she didn't want to talk about it. First, she would make her mother worried about her if she told her she was followed by a ghost and the ghost was the one who saved Orion. And the second, the most important thing, it was because she thought that she needed to explain with long sentences and she found that was too bothersome, so she didn't want to talk about it.
“You don’t want to tell me about it?” Mir’s mother raised her eyebrows. It was rare for her daughter to keep a secret from her.
“…difficult.” Mir replied honestly.
“Is this something difficult to tell to your own mother? Well, I don’t mind you don’t want to tell me about how you saved him. However, I want to know whether you keep it a secret because you do a bad thing or not. So, the question is, are you doing something bad behind my back?” She stared at Mir with an observing look. She knew Mir since she was born, so she knew when Mir was lying.
Mir shook her head vehemently.
A shake of her head and she didn't lie to her. After confirming that, she hugged Mir tightly. “Mm, naturally, my cute daughter won’t do something like that! Come here, let me hug you for a minute or two!”
“…burnt…” Mir pointed at the frying pan as she smelled something burning.
“Ah, right!! Sorry, I’m hugging you longer next time!” She hurriedly focused on the cooking in panic.
Mir nonchalantly continued helping her mother. Fortunately, the dish could be saved. Even though some parts were burned, well, they were not professional cooks, so it should be forgiven.
After taking care of the ordeal of almost having burned chicken as dinner, they finally sat around the dining table.
“If only your father is still here…”
“…not dead.” Mir retorted quickly.
Her mother smiled. “Of course! But he isn’t here, so I’m not wrong!”
“…” Mir lowered her head and decided to eat silently.
Her mother put her attention to Mir’s new friend, Orion. “So, Orion, right? What do you think of my Mir? Isn’t she lovely?”
Orion, who just put the glass filled with water, was choked and coughed vehemently. Fortunately, he hadn’t drunk a lot yet. So, he only coughed, not spewed the water to Mir who sat in front of him. And in addition to that, his face turned red and he was flustered.
“…no.” Mir replied in the place of Orion. If she were Orion, she wouldn’t know how to answer. Naturally, in that situation, saying that ‘she is lovely’ should be the correct answer, but that would lead the situation even more awkward for the two of them.
“Hey, I’m asking your friend! By the way, Orion, are you the one who gives a suggestion to change her hairstyle?” Her mother retorted while rubbing Mir’s head roughly.
“…no.” Mir replied again as Orion was still too flustered to say anything. It seemed, similar to Mir and the ghost, he didn’t have a lot of experience talking with other people. Mir chose to be taciturn, the ghost chose to be talkative, and Orion chose to be flustered whenever topics he didn’t know how to deal with appeared.
…he can do an introduction, at the very least. Mir thought inwardly. Different from her who could only mention her name when she was forced to do an introduction.
As the dinner went on, her mother kept asking Orion questions he couldn’t answer easily and Mir would answer everything with one word or two, at most. Behind them, the ghost was laughing while watching the wholesome scene of the family having dinner…
