Chapter 50: You Set Me Up…
“…that’s enough philosophy for today, don’t you think?” A half-grin grew on Aanya’s face as she spoke into the silence.
“I would say it’s enough for a good, long while, actually.” Aakash mused in return. “Too much thinking.”
“Now, now, Professor, what would your students think if you taught them not to be philosophical because it requires too much thinking?” The rib came almost instantaneously.
“Dunno about that but I do know what my peers thought about a professor who philosophised every damn part of the stories we studied under him. God, did we hate him!” Aakash sighed. “Philosophy isn’t bad. But sir dragged it into every discussion…ah, no, into every lecture. Cuz only he spoke.”
“And our Aakash loves interactions so soooooo much, doesn’t he?” Aanya’s eyes were still closed but a mocking smile had made its appearance on her lips.
Aakash spluttered at the unexpected dose of sarcasm.
Grimacing as he saw his wife’s smile widening, Aakash hurried to explain himself, “…I just didn’t like interactions where people just made simple things needlessly complex! Sharing interpretations wasn’t so bad.”
“Oh, I meant interactions in general. You were all quiet and serious back when we started to attend parties and dinners together.”
“I’m not good with big groups! And when we first began attending together….” He shuddered, “There were so many people hounding me! Questions about how we met and blah blah blah…” Aakash trailed off, a long sigh escaping from him.
Looking down again, he noticed Aanya’s now-open eyes filled with glee. A complaining tone emerged, “You know that! Why do you always bring it up?”
Aanya raised a hand to caress his cheek, “It’s so much fun to tease you. Though did I ever tell you that when I informed you back then my parents were urgently calling me and left you there alone, it was actually just an act I set up with my cousin?”

“Huh?” Aakash looked down, flabbergasted.
“I knew what would happen if I left you alone! We have so many family friends! You’d be swarmed. Hehehe…”
“Wait, you wanted me to be alone with them?” The man was stupefied.
“Aryan never revealed it? I thought he’d let it slip with his big mouth.”
“You made me go through that horrifying experience on purpose…?” Aakash’s jaw fell open.
“Now, don’t exaggerate. It wasn’t that bad. At least,” Aanya giggled as she wiped away tears of laughter, “Most of them went away with the impression, ‘He’s such a polite and intelligent young man.’ I know, because they told my parents that in front of me. Oh, wouldn’t they be surprised if they learnt that the ‘young man’ they liked so much was a prankster?”
“That’s Harshil!” Aakash protested before asking again, “…You set me up?”
“Oh, shut up, you. Stop acting like a child who was tricked out of a lollipop.”
“You set me up…” He murmured.
Shaking her head at her husband’s apparent childish sulk, Aanya just bonked his head, “Come now, it’s all in the past.”
“…A past that still haunts me. As much as remembering Prof. Mandev’s classes makes me annoyed and drowsy.”
“How can you be both at the same time?” Aanya laughed. “Either you can be annoyed in class or lulled to sleep.”
“Oh, I can be both for sure! He was all over the place but hardly; hardly was he ever on the main subject! Metaphysics here, epistemology there…and that’s not all!”
Sighing again, Aakash continued his rant, “The examples and the digressions from the topic! You could barely understand what he was talking about and then bam! You’re discussing a completely new topic or approach! But worst of all, his voice was monotonous. I’m pretty sure I slept through half of his classes…”

“What a model student!” Aanya exclaimed.
“I don’t want to hear that from the one who slept through so many of our social science classes that Preeti Ma’am even reported it to her parents during the PTM!”
“…what was so fun about learning about old sultans…? And who would even remember which river is where to mark on maps? And all those structures of democracy and case studies…bah! Boring!”
“Case studies didn’t seem to bore you when you were studying economics, did they? Hmmm, Aanya?”
“Economics is obviously fun!” Aanya declared.
“…still doesn’t seem to counter the point that you slept through the other Social Science classes.”
“…whatever.”
“Sure.” Aakash ruffled her hair, pleased at having gotten her back at least once.

The Eldritch Horror Returns to Earth, but Things are a Bit Different
One day, Adam B. Windsley was in this world, and then, he wasn't. Suddenly trasported into a strange world called Lutum, Adam finds himself in the body of a small, unassuming slug, and during the course of 600 years, he evolved beyond the scope of humans, becoming one of the Five Evil Gods, worshipped by his followers and treated as a God would. But he isn't happy. And after some time reaquainting himself with humans, he finds himself enjoying their company. But, in a sudden twist of events, he finds himself back in his own world. But he is still a giant tentacle-covered monstoristy. And where did these magical girls come from?... --------- In short, this is a story focusing on a somewhat edgy reincarnated-as-a-monster kind of guy who returned back to his world on the day of his transferral, only for strange, unusual things to happen. Monsters from his past world start popping up out of the blue, and ordinary people are suddenly learning of sorcery, becoming magical girls in the process. In terms of structure, it will mostly be about what happens to Adam after coming back, but at times, there will also be chapters focusing on Adam's life before his transferred, in chronological order. In other words, very typical isekai stuff. The chapters will be between 2000 and god-only-knows-how-many words and will be released every three days at 8 am, CST. I don't actually live in America so if chapter release is off by an hour or so, it's probably either because I messed up with the time, or because I was unable to finish a chapter on time-, The artwork on the cover belongs to yours truly, I drew it myself and I'm darn tootin' proud of it, and Omni is my dear co-writer who got me this far. Couldn't do it without him! With that said, I do hope you enjoy, as I did put way too much effort into it... Enjoy!

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
