《Integration》Chapter Eight: A memory not soon forgotten

Nathan watched from the top of the tree branch while Brandon desperately was running through the forest in his direction without the slightest idea that Nathan was perched on one of the tree branches. Nathan was scared to his bones after seeing the massive beast giving chase to the man but he knew he had to help, he couldn’t let someone be killed like that, the Boar was catching up and although Brandon was zigzagging through the forest so the Boar would have to manoeuvre among the trees he had no doubt it would reach Brandon at some point. Mind furiously trying to think of a way to help, Nathan decided to get down a few branches whilst shouting to Brandon to come his way, an idea forming on his head.
As soon as Brandon noticed Nathan on the tree, he did a beeline in his direction. Nathan on his end got to the lowest and strongest branch and held the wooden part of the spear under the blade, offering the shaft of the spear to Brandon so he could hold and be pulled up.
‘Man grab the spear I’ll pull you up!’, Nathan said in a hurry realising the Boar was arriving too fast.
As soon as Brandon grabbed the butt of the spear, Nathan tried to pull him up to his branch, understanding he didn’t have the strength necessary for the feat and was feeling desperate as the boar was approaching quickly, he opened his Status and dumped 5 points into Strength, bringing his total Strength to 14 points, hoping it would be enough to pull the man up with all his gear.
‘Pull me up dude, pull me up now!!’, Brandon shouted as terror was reaching his mind, seeing that the boar was rushing into him and was closer than he would like.

Nathan felt strength going through his veins and started pulling the man up, his branch was about 2 meters off the ground and he Nathan was closer to the trunk of the tree when Brandon was about half way through in the air, almost reaching the branch with his left hand while his legs were trying to walk the trunk in a upwards manner, the Boar with his head down and the tusks facing upwards crashed into the tree and got Brandon with one of his tusks, piercing him though his protective pants, Brandon let go of the spear as the tusk pierced all the way through his thigh and got stuck in the tree.
‘AHHHHHHhhHh! You fucking cunt of a PIG, my leg, my fucking LEG’, Brandon shouted as pain cursed through his body.
Brandon couldn’t wield his longsword as he was still mid-air stuck on the tree while the boar was trying to free himself. Nathan watched the whole thing in disbelief, his skill ‘Detect Danger’, burning in his mind as it made clear in how much risk he was in, as his mind was trying to process what was happening he came up with an idea, that would make or break.
As soon as the Boar managed to release itself of the tree Brandon fell to the ground, with a thud, he started bleeding profusely and he could tell his consciousness would fade soon if he didn’t stop the bleeding, he got to his feet and decided he wouldn’t go down without putting up a fight. The boar on the other hand, wasn’t interested in letting him do that though, he tried to attack again but Brandon managed to dodge his enemy’s tusks by pure luck and then he grabbed his longsword, holding his longsword he kept it between himself and the boar, he managed to parry a few of the boar’s attacks, keeping it a bay, his skill ‘Swordsmanship’, provided to be useful to the extreme as he was using stances to fight stronger and bigger opponents than himself, he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep it up for too long, he had lost too much blood, and the boar was too strong.

‘DUDE help me please, its gonna kill me, it’s gonna KILL ME!’ Brandon yelled, desperately, pain in his voice.
‘Fuck this, fuck this, FUCK! WHAT SHOULD I DO?’, Nathan, screamed back, confused in his own head.
‘I don’t know dude, but do it quickly, I won’t be able to hold much longer’, Brandon replied.
Nathan was torn, he had planned to get the attention of the boar and outrun it but then what would he do? He couldn’t fight it on a one-to-one fight, and he was also aware Brandon wouldn’t be able to help him on his actual state. At the same time, he knew he would be next if he didn’t do anything!
Unfortunately, the Boar attacked again and this time he managed to avoid Brandon’s longsword and hit him on the abdomen. Screaming again in agony Brandon knew he wouldn’t survive; his wounds were too deep and he would need to be treated quickly by professionals.
Nathan couldn’t stomach seeing the man get butchered without helping, it would be better to die trying than to die as a coward, with his spear in hands and the blade facing downwards, he jumped off the tree branch putting all his strength and weight under the attack coming from the air.
As soon as the boar was about to free itself from Brandon it was also hit in the eye by Nathan’s spear.

Thomas the Brawler
Thomas doesn't remember what his last name was, before it became Bluebrim, a name belonging to another universe. He's also pretty sure he wasn't this stupid before he arrived, but what can you do, when a day that was supposed to begin with an interview to set your life back on track instead begins in a universe that makes no sense, with rules you can't begin to understand? Maybe he should have paid more attention to the avatar creation screen ... Content warnings: All of them. Seriously. Expect lots of blue screens to begin with. Don't expect a power-leveling fantasy, in which the lone hero beats up all the bad guys, and gets a harem of women. There's just a guy who treats character creation like an annoying series of pop-up advertisements, and the story is basically the ramifications of that. The main character has to learn to take the world he's found himself in seriously, and he'll learn the way most of us do, by doing it wrong first. This is, insofar as it is successful, a dark comedy fantasy. Also a bit of horror, particularly but not exclusively body horror. I'm pretty sure I've earned those Content Warning tags, so, uh, yeah. This is practice. Hopefully things improve as I go, and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I make no guarantees things will ever get better. I've already made mistakes, I'll make more, and I'm happy to notice them each time I make them. You don't improve unless you fail. (On the plus side, it probably won't get much worse.) Feel free to point out anything you think I'm doing wrong; I don't promise to change anything, particularly if it's a matter of taste, but I am looking to improve, and figuring out what I need to improve goes faster if I don't have to try to figure it out myself. I've updated the earlier chapters for formatting, in the hope that it would make everything easier to read on mobile devices. Hopefully things work slightly better now, but please let me know if there are any issues anywhere.

When portals opened across the world and space, people were a bit terrified. Naturally, some people called it the end times or some other negative interpretation. Thankfully, the new arrivals managed to calm the masses, saying they were here from across dimensions in search of peaceful refuge. And so, began a technological revolution as the new cohabitants, who looked distinctly human if a bit off, openly shared some of their knowledge with us. Space travel, while not cakewalks, become more easily accessible, as did interplanetary colonization. Naturally, with the New Humans keeping some of the more dangerous techs to themselves and Old Humans being a greedy bunch, tensions are arising as old and new grudges rear their ugly heads. The world endlessly spins as history, both good and bad, is seemingly on its way to repeating itself. Only with other planets, and potentially other universes, being the backdrop this time. But that was big stuff that Alex had no real interest in. They only care about one thing and one thing. TDAG. Trans-Dimensional Adventure Games. Best VR system ever made. Alex, instead of focusing on political and multiverse shenanigans, had their eyes set on VR games. Specifically, one of the new and up and coming potential best games of all times. Death Galaxy
