《Integration》Chapter Five – Market

Accessing the System Market was an eye-opening experience, it contained a few tabs but only six were unlocked, and I couldn’t see what the other ones contained or their names, the first tab that was unlocked for me was;

Surviving Equipment: from all sorts of tools, such as pans, shovels, ropes, leather backpacks, tents, fire starters, rations, some pelts, etc… Anything to do with survival and a few odd things.

Materials: This tab contained manly brute materials, such as different types of ores and wood.

Weapons: This was straight forward but I took a long time looking through this part, there wasn’t anything magical or out of the ordinary, and it’s as you would expect, different types of bows, swords, maces, shields, spears, lances, daggers.

Protection: This ranged from different types of clothes, which were all human fashioned, different styles and types of armor, either made of hard leather or metal.

Classes: Here is where I spent most of my time skimming through, as there were a few different options with different prices in essence, I assumed there would be more options but realised they would have to be triggered or would be status related or unlocked through different achievements.

Sell: You could also sell stuff to the System market.

Looking at the list left me utterly disappointed, I had created a lot of expectations towards choosing a class that would help me survive out here but the ones given to me all seemed to be made towards re-creating life on Earth, I had assumed that choosing the highest difficulty mode would give me extra options but looking back now it seemed like I was being naïve, yet I couldn’t complain as it seemed to have given me a crazy amount of essence and a unique skill.

Considering my options, I thought about picking the Fighter class as it would hopefully give me some knowledge on how to fight monsters or other creatures, increasing my odds of surviving here, ultimately I didn’t chose it as it was of common rarity and I didn’t want to be something that anyone could be.

“I can be so arrogant sometimes”. I thought to myself.

Then there was also the class Tracker which due the rarity I assumed it was given to me due my higher perception. Pondering about the class, I opted for not choosing it just yet in hopes I could unlock something better later, in case I survived long enough that is.

The last tab available for me was called Skills, and it was there and then I made the choices that allowed me to survive through the Tutorial, only if barely.

Looking through the long list, which contained a huge variety of different skills, I took A long time planning my course of action, I knew I wasn’t particularly good at anything, I had never really fought for my life or killed an animal in order survive, even though I’m not vegetarian I had never really killed a chicken or anything like that.

Filtering through the list I decided to pick two skills on which I felt confident would greatly help me getting out to explore.

As soon as I bought Detect Danger, I was filled with a sense of peacefulness which I attributed to the safe zone where I found myself in, it was oddly comforting as if I was in my own bed and at peace with myself. I wondered how that would feel when I was in real danger.

Hide Presence on the other hand, filled me with knowledge on how to basically well, hide my presence, giving me comprehension on how to breath properly in order to not be detected and other things. I knew the skill wouldn’t be super effective at level 1 if someone had a higher perception or other detective skills but it would certainly increase my survival skills.

Spending the 650 essence required to buy both skills left me with 550, I had nothing to my name but them shit clothes I was wearing and 550 essence to spare, knowing I would have to stay in this forest for a quite some time, I got myself some essential items, such as: a backpack, some dry rations,

fire-starter, pan, a waterskin, a tent and some other silly things amounting to a total of 100 essence which I thought was quite cheap. Next, I got myself a hard leather armor which was more of a Gambeson but not as long, it ended just above my knees, also the armor had no sleeves. I got myself some sturdy boots and gloves. Amounting another 150 Essence, that left me with 300 Essence, and I started getting a bit nervous as I still had to buy more items. next thinking logically, I decided to buy a spear for it’s longer reach and simplicity to be handled, I could either stab something or keep it at a fair distance also got myself a hunting knife with a sheath I could attach to my armor.

All in all, I felt a bit more comfortable and secure with my purchases and still had 120 Essence left to spend on something else.
