Solana gasped, as Solai swiped her finger across the iPad. "Ou, that's a candy land theme. We'll have balloons and candy everywhere." Solana said, zooming in on the pictures that she saved on Pinterest.
Solana and Solai were currently sitting in the hospital bed picking out themes for Solai's fifth birthday party. Solana couldn't decide which theme she liked the most, so she wanted Solai's input to make the final decision.
"Which one do you really want to do?" Ms. Georgia asked Solana.
"I'm stuck between the candy land theme, or care bears. She keeps swiping back to the candy land theme though." Solana chuckled. "I already have a venue reserved and gave the event planner both themes, I'm just waiting for Solai's decision."
Ms. Georgia smiled at the way that Solana's eyes lit up everytime their conversation was about Solai. "So my manager reviewed the classes you did take and saw your scores. He was really impressed. All you have to do now is take that last class and then we'll come out for a home check. If you can get that done as soon as possible, then I'll talk to a judge and present your case.
"Will I have to like come to court to determine to be a foster parent?" Solana asked.
"Well the judge will of course look over your records but honestly you don't really meet with a judge until it's time to adopt or unless the placement goes the wrong way. It's my job to place her in a safe and loving home, and that's with you." Ms. Georgia explained.
Solana smiled and nodded her head. "Ms. Georgia you have my complete and honest word. I will not fail Solai. She's already so loved."
"Oh trust me I know." Ms. Georgia chuckled, with a wave. "She already got you in the palm of her hand. If she so much as cry for a minute, you're frantically trying to find a way to make it all better."
"Ms. Georgia stop it." Solana whined. "I don't do that all the time, just sometimes." She shrugged.
"Solana."
"Ok, okay maybe all the time." Solana giggled. She looked down at Solai and noticed she was looking at the candy land theme again and smiled. "You like?" She asked the little girl.
Solai only pointed at the screen. Solana nodded her head, taking out her phone. She texted the event planner and told her the final decision. Honestly Solana was suprised that Solai didn't pick the care bears theme. Solai loved her human-sized bear, which is why care bears was one of the options.
"Let's go over your color—Before Solana could even finish her sentence a middle-aged woman came walking into the room with a suitcase and a bookbag.
"Is this my niece? I got a call from Social Services saying that my niece was just put into the system. I'm here to get her." The lady stated, making Ms. Georgia stand to her feet.
"Who called you? What's your name?" Ms. Georgia frowned, immediately going to stand in front of the lady. "I'm her social worker, and have been on her case since the very beginning."
"A lady name Josephine contacted me and gave me this address. She told me that she would talk to you about everything." The lady shrugged.
"She didn't tell me anything. What's your name?" Ms. Georgia replied, whipping out her work phone. She clicked on her supervisor's number, waiting for an answer.

"My name is Kerri. Solai's aunt from New Jersey."
When she did answer, Ms. Georgia went into the corner of the room while the lady walked over to Solai's hospital bed. She made sure to keep an eye on everyone.
"She is too cute." Kerri cooed, walking over to Solai's side of the bed.
Solana held her tears, as she avoided eye contact with Solai's aunt. She was everything, but happy. She was sad, angry, and frustrated. "We were just about to go over her colors." Solana thought to herself.
"Come here little baby, come to your auntie." Kerrie mentioned, reaching her arms out to Solai. Solai turned her entire body into Solana's as her fingers started to tremble.
"Who are you?" Kerri asked.
"Ma'am I just got off the phone with my boss, did you bring your social security card and a proof of income?" Ms. Georgia asked Kerri, before Solana could even answer the question.
"No, why should I have to bring all of that. I'm her aunt. Her mom is my sister." Kerri frowned. "Will the checks come next month or how long will that take?"
Solana frowned, shaking her head. She kept her mouth closed, while she continued to rub small circles on Solai's back. This is one of the main reasons why she didn't want Solai being given to anyone. Most people only cared about the money that they would receive monthly.
"Ma'am I'm gone act like you just didn't ask me that. If you don't have your social security card or proof of income there's no reason for you to be here. We have to do a full background check before we even consider releasing Solai into your care." Ms. Georgia explained.
Solai's cries started to fill the room as she felt another set of hands grab her. Kerri was trying to hold her niece, and felt really angry when Solai wouldn't allow it.
"Please stop. You can't do that." Solana finally spoke up.
"I don't even know you. What's your name again?" Kerri asked, attitude laced in her voice. "She's crying for no reason...I'm not even hurting her."
"My name is Solana. You may not think you're hurting her, but she's already been through enough trauma. Grabbing on her involuntarily is making it worse." Solana replied.
Solai's cries calmed down, as Solana actually picked her up and rested her in her lap. Solai stuck her finger in her mouth, closing her eyes not wanting to look at the unfamiliar person in front of her.
"Whatever. I'll be back with all of my documents, and taking my niece." Kerri scoffed. She went to grab her suitcase before exiting the room, leaving Solana crying.
"Ms. Georgia please don't let her take her. I can have the class finished before tonight is over. You guys can come and do the home check tonight or early tomorrow morning." Solana cried softly.
"I need records of that class finished before tonight is over Solana. I'll have my colleague come do the home check then I'll immediately present your case to the judge." Ms. Georgia stated. She was upset that her supervisor went behind her back, but more so frustrated with Kerri.
"Yes ma'am. As soon as she falls asleep I'll go home and get it done." Solana nodded, sniffling. She pulled out her phone and immediately texted the family group chat.

"Thanks for coming." Solana smiled, letting both of her sisters into her apartment. She had just got home from the supermarket herself.
"No problem boo. How's everything going." Heaven asked, washing her hands at the sink. Everytime she entered any house, she washed her hands. She hated when her hands felt dirty.
"It's okay. Her aunt came down from Jersey, and she's already a walking red flag." Solana replied. "Like she was already asking when the checks would start rolling in."
"Ew, that's disgusting." Jayda frowned. "I bet she don't even have a care in the world for that little girl. If she did, Solai would not be in that hospital to begin with."
"Right. What did Georgia say about all this?" Heaven added on.
"Well she was upset, because her supervisor went over her head. That's how Kerri even got here. She said that I needed to finish that last class before tonight is over. Tomorrow they'll come do the home check and then hopefully I can start fostering her until I can adopt." Solana explained.
"Okay and how long does that class take to complete?" Jayda wondered, unpacking the kid's sensitive hygiene products that she picked up along the way.
"Well it said that it'll take three hours. Should we start on the room and everything first?" Solana asked.
"Okay baby. You go ahead and start on that class it's already past five. So you should be done by eight. Jayda and I can do the room and make sure everything is presentable." Heaven suggested.
"Yeah that sounds like a plan to me." Jayda nodded.
"Okay. Everything is on the island. Let me know if y'all need anything." Solana smiled. She walked away to her room, going into her prayer corner to start on the class.
"SoSo really went and bought hella groceries." Jayda chuckled, seeing the brown paper bags everywhere. "Ouu, she got the baby puffs thingies."
"Jayda really?" Heaven laughed. "Ouuu, are those my favorite gummies?" She gasped, seeing Jayda wave a big back of Trolli in front of Heaven.
"You think she'll notice?" Jayda asked, eyeing the baby puff snacks.
"I don't think so. See what we can do is put them in containers and just take like a handful. She won't notice." Heaven whispered, making sure Solana's door was closed. "Let's hurry up."
As soon as they both opened the snacks, Solana's door opened making them both hide the snacks behind their back. "What are y'all doing?" She giggled.
"Nothing." They both replied in unison.
"Yeah I see the gummies and baby snacks behind your backs." Solana laughed, going into the refrigerator to get her cranberry juice. "Y'all are horrible liars." She shrugged, going back into her room.
Both girls laughed before they started putting away all of the groceries. They put the cold products in the refrigerator and the frozen foods in the freezer. They then started to take out of all the dry foods in pour them into organizer such as cereals, candies, and pasta.
"Should we go ahead and cut up her produce and put it in those containers?" Heaven asked, noticing that they forgot the produce that Solana bought.
"Yeah we can it'll be more organized." Jayda shrugged. They each split the produce, vegetables, and fruit up cutting and slicing to put into its proper area.
After they were finally done with the kitchen, they went into Solana's guest room to start to reorganize. "Okay so we need to make sure each outlet have plug covers." Heaven stated.
"Okie dokie." Jayda nodded.
"Have you told the kids about Solana's new addition to the family?" Jayda asked. She had been meaning to ask Heaven, because she didn't know whether she should tell Angel or not.
"Honestly no. You know Nevaeh, Angel, and Solana been best friends since they were little." Heaven shook her head. "I mean I know papa and my other two won't really be phased, but I know Nevaeh gone feel a way."
"Yeah, Angel too. We just have to explain to them that it's time to share." Jayda laughed. "They are older now, so I don't think it'll be that bad."
"You right. I think Zuri has either social anxiety or some type of selective mutism though." Heaven sighed. I researched all of the symptoms and she meets almost every one.
"Heav, I've noticed it too. Have you talked to Zylin about it?" Jayda replied.
Heaven shook her head. "No I just did the research at work today. It made me do it, because this one child came in and she would not talk to anyone or let her mom put her down. Her mom told me that she had selective mutism and social anxiety."
"You think it's because of that girl at her school?" Jayda asked. She had heard about Marissa from Heaven and Nevaeh.
"Honestly no. Zuri has been this way before she even started school. She would never let me put her down, and everytime we went into public it's like she becomes mute. She'll only talk to me or Zylin." Heaven responded.
"What are your next steps?"
"I'm gone talk to Zylin when I get home and then we'll research some behavior specialist and speech specialist." Heaven nodded.
"You know I'm here for y'all Heav." Jayda reminded her best friend. She saw the saddened look on Heaven's face and felt really bad. She always thought that Zuri may have just had social anxiety, but now that Heaven mentioned it, it could've been selective mutism.
"Thank you Jay." Heaven smiled small.

First time writing any sort of story. Everything is still a work in progress. As I improve on my writing I will go back and edit parts. Early chapters are subject to change as I grow my ability. I am going to try my best to write this world and improve as I go. My goal is to make my dream come to life through the medium of text. This is why I wanted to post it here. Feel free to comment, and bring constructive criticism. Hope you enjoy! More info (Spoiler warning): only read if you are picky, read a lot, and want to waste no time with a story you may not want read. This book is a litrpg. This means it contains stat tables, and other game elements. (Which you may gloss over if you would like) It is written in a fantasy world, in the style of a progression fantasy. The main character grows in power as the story plays out. My characters are written to my best ability, but you may find them immature. The MC has to adjust to fighting, and killing which he struggles with for a while. His partner is a magical salamander who is a friend and mentor. The world building, monsters, and descriptions are also low tier. (I am working hard to change that!) If you are okay reading something by someone who is just getting started then welcome! I am doing my best, and incrementally improving as I go.
