《Anilink》Prologue

The silence of the night was interrupted by a desperate song from the emergency alarms. The red lights danced through cold metallic corridors at the underground facility, in a beat that said: "there's-something-definitely-wrong". The chaotic symphony final member joined the song in the form of a hundred bullets being shot like new eve's fireworks directly into the huge shadow trying to escape, leaving behind a trail of blood, fur, and tears.
On the desperate run, the creature went through reinforced doors like they were soda cans. Every step was exhausting and hurtful, but it wouldn't stop it. The body was injured by needles, blades, bullets and all sorts of experiments now gathered all the energy left searching for fresh air, even for one last time.
A mysterious figure smiled darkly while watching everything from an unknown room, observing every step the creature took through a wall of security cameras, just planning how to capture the tormented being. The animal kept going on, dodging from the security guards, striking them with its huge tail, and ripping off the obstacles that didn't stop appearing.
Even with all the sense of desperation, exhaustion and fear flowing out of its body, the creature could smell the rainy air of the night. It could even taste the freedom in its mouth if it wasn't full of blood. Its body and mind hurt, but no man, creature or machine would stop the escape.
After going up through countless floors, it saw the front gate open, just a few steps from the desired freedom. It was clearly an ambush, it knew. It was all or nothing. The fatigue was pulsing through every inch of its angry existence, but nothing was going to change its mind. The prison wasn't an option. Not anymore.
It walked into the thin rain pouring at the dawn, feeling the wet sand in contact with its paws, a fresh feeling of life. But the scenario was worse than expected: Waiting for it, dozens of soldiers with machine guns, rocket launchers, military vehicles, and a brash squad leader wielding a greatsword.

The cocky man shouted: "You will not leave this place with life, number 27. Just go back to your cell and we'll treat your wounds. Go back NOW".
The laser signs were pointing to the dark figure, ready to give the last try. The creature was happy to feel the fresh air again, a small glimpse of the desired freedom. It challenged the man in front with a loud howling, shattering every vehicle glass and cracking every gun sight. It was the only opportunity to move. Before the guns started blazing, the creature jumped forward at the opponents, tackling the leader into the floor, his head now buried into the ground. It was enough for the others to flinch for a second, opening space to the next movement: Running towards the exit.
The creature ran through the enemies, with no time to dodge every shot and slash from every weapon. It could only count on luck. It was desperate and outnumbered. With a tail movement, created a sand cloud that would help, at least for some seconds. Running through the front gates could see the two towers that secured the discrete compound. Those would serve as obstacles. The animal tackled the strong tower with every fraction of energy left. The metallic structure fell with the shouting snipers being buried under the sand.
The creature kept running without knowing where it was, without any notion of a safe objective or direction. Just kept running. Trees, meadows, and buildings passed while a timid sun was starting to show. The sound of peace was ended by the last two military vehicles chasing the creature.
It was hopeless.
Then, the city appeared, the rain was about to end, and the day was about to begin for the inhabitants. Maybe that was the distraction the creature needed. The creature passed through some streets and traffic lights, the eyes almost closing due to exhaustion. It was clearly the end. The small portion of energy left was leaving its body. Soon it would be over. At least it tried. At least it could feel the air, the rain, the outside again.
Then everything went black.
