《In Pursuit Of Accolades》World of Screams

Introspection is an overrated form of introduction. Go with the flow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up to the sound of agonizing screams.
They came from all around me, through the walls and vents. There was pain in the voices. Sounds of anguish and loss.
The cries pressed deep into my eardrums, sending me into a deep spiral of despairing emotions that I had felt during my earlier encounter with the wisp.
I looked frantically around the room, not fully understanding what was going on.
Half awake and afraid I looked for anyone who could explain what was happening...
"Goodmorning Greg"
The screaming of the world stopped, and turned towards the voice instantly.
My roommate was on his bed, looking dazed as his listless eyes were directed upwards towards the sky. Directly through the window.
It was early morning as far as I could see. The light presented itself as cold grey beams upon his face. The room was silent for a single moment...
He tilted his head to look at me.
Looking but not seeing.
"Who am I Greg?"
I heard the sound of synchronous shatter ring out through the building.
The cacophony of sounds that followed depicted the methods many took to end their lives.
I hold my hands to my ears trying to drown out the horrible screeching of the failed attempts.
People who begged to the heavens for a faster death.
Minutes later as I uncovered my ears. I heard a small gurgling sound.
Looking at him I stared into those vapid eyes. I witnessed his final moments as the razor dropped out of a cold hand.
I remember his last question. But I don't know the answer either.
Running I duck out the door and dash down the hallway.
Looking for anyone else I see a small flashing grey symbol on my hand.
After looking at it once, a grey screen immediately moved to fill my vision.
Shadowcroft Academy for Dungeons: Year One
Build a Dungeon. Slay Heroes. Survive Finals. Wounded Army vet Logan Murray thought mimics were the stuff of board games and dungeon manuals… right up until one ate him. In a flash of snapping teeth, Logan suddenly finds himself on the doorstep to another world. He’s been unwittingly recruited into the Shadowcroft Academy for Dungeons—the most prestigious interdimensional school dedicated to training the monstrous guardians who protect the Tree of Souls from so-called heroes. Heroes who would destroy the universe if it meant a shot at advancement. Unfortunately, as a bottom-tier cultivator with a laughably weak core, Logan’s dungeon options aren’t exactly stellar, and he finds himself reincarnated as a lowly fungaloid, a three-foot-tall mass of spongy mushroom with fewer skills than a typical sewer rat. If he’s going to survive the grueling challenges the academy has in store, he’ll need to ace the odd assortment of classes—Fiendish Fabrication, Dungeon Feng Shui, the Ethics of Murder 101—and learn how to turn his unusual guardian form into an asset instead of a liability. And that’s only if the gargoyle professor doesn’t demote him to a doomed wandering monster first…
They are people with shattered minds and stolen memories. The brands of the ones that brought them to this miserable state are engraved in their skin and both their bodies and minds are damaged by the sorcerers. They’re pitied by some, hated by many and ignored by most. And worst of all – they’re doomed to live their remaining years in this crippled state, isolated by the rest of the world and without a way to heal their injuries, both mental and physical. But deep inside of them lies a spark of the power that the mages used to shatter their minds… The name of these miserable beings is the Undone Ones and this is the story of one of them.
