《H(e)aven》Helpless

Rayne

She was aware that Alliyah had reached her and was expressing something, but her voice was drowned out by the dread that flooded her senses.

She ran from her feelings, but she couldn’t run from that. They suddenly had much bigger issues than heartache. Rayne was frozen in place. She had read about it, spoke about it, but when she looked at it in real life when it was right there, she just couldn’t put any plan in march. Mind over matter was not a possibility.

The giant wave made an unsettling sound, that made birds fly like mad, and the air smelled like salt.h

Some people, like Alliyah, didn’t even notice it, others were scrambling, running from it as if they had a chance to defeat it. A third group, like Rayne, simply fixed, looking at it.

Kenya was being washed over by another tsunami.

Wasn't it ironic? Volunteers were there to help, but they, too, were about to become victims.

But as the water hit Rayne, that wasn’t on her mind. The force of the flood sent her small body flinging away like a mere pebble. The only thing she could do was try not to inhale, which was difficult when all she wanted to do was cry out.

The waves dragged smaller trees, cars, and people, as they broke through windows and, well, everything in one furious continuous motion. They simply did not stop for anything or anyone.

She heard shouts of despair coming from everywhere. The shrieks of children were the toughest to witness. She wanted to help, but she was helpless.
