~63 Days until the The Synchronization~
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Wyatt winced at the ear piercing scream. The child continued screaming for what seemed to be forever.
“Ugh… will you shut up? Jesus that's loud...”
He couldn't help it. Wyatt was never a child friendly kind of person. In fact, he actually hated the little beasts with a passion. All they ever did was cry, complain, and shit themselves. They were needy little bastards.
The little girl stopped screaming after that. She looked at Wyatt like any child would look at a monster. Her little brown eyes were wide, her shoulders shivering, and her mouth wide open.
“W-why a… are y-y-you here?”
The girl could hardly form a sentence together; she was so scared. It was only when she seemed to calm down a little that Wyatt got a good look at her face.
She was kind of cute, although Wyatt wasn’t fooled by that appearance. He knew their true nature. The little girl had tanned skin and dark brown hair that went to her shoulders. She was clearly of mexican or spanish descent, one or the other he didn’t know or care, she even had a little accent. Otherwise, the girl was a complete mess.
She clearly hadn’t had a bath in days, her hair was greasy and wild, and Wyatt could hear the sounds of her legs shivering from the other end of the hallway.
Of course the first alive person I met during this event had to be a child. A fucking brat. Fantastic. I now regret picking this house…
Wait, she must have parents! Other adults!
“Um… little girl, would you by any chance have your parents around? I need to speak with them.”
He completely ignored her question and answered with a confused question of his own.
Then the girl went catmose. Wyatt could have sworn he heard her stop breathing for a second. Her little head lowered as she looked down at the floor.
Then, she nodded.
Wyatt breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, he could communicate with other people about the current state of LA. Maybe they might even have information on a shelter or the huge crack in the sky!
Wyatts heart started to beat faster. Hope flared in his stomach.
The girl started to walk up the stairs, sometimes turning around to see if Wyatt was following her. He was. When he and the girl got upstairs he saw how damaged this house really was.

The furniture was toppled and the ceiling had caved in in some places. The floorboards were a mess and some spiked upwards, a dangerous way to die if you fell on one of those back first. The heart would be pierced and you would be left to bleed to death, a very painful way to go. The agony of knowing all you can do is wait for the release of death as you stay impaled to the floor.
Ahh, his long lost friend. Intrusive thoughts are back baby! How he missed them…
He also noticed how quite everything was. Nothing made a sound, it was almost eerie. Wyatt expected the kids' parents to be running to their child, they usually did that, hugging the kid and telling them what they did wrong and such. But there was no one.
Wyatt had to stuff his intrusive thoughts into the deepest corner of his mind. He would not let his imagination take over. Nope nope, not in this spooky ass house.
Finally, the girl stopped in front of a closed door. She didn’t move, just pointed at the door with a shaking finger. Her eyes were downcast, and her shivering increased ten fold.
Wyatt tried not to look at the girl, instead he put his hand on the door and knocked before slowly opening the door.
“Uh, hello Mrs. and Mr. Parents? I need to speak with y’all about what's happening. Do you by any chance know-”
He stopped.
The scene in front of him was enough nightmare fuel to keep him awake for months on end.
The door opened to a large bathroom, probably a really nice bathroom if everything wasn’t thrown around willy nilly. It had large counter space and two sinks side by side. A large bathtub sat in the corner of the room. And finally, the star of the show, a tiled shower with large glass windows encasing it like a box. Inside was the body of a woman with her skull caved in. She was sitting in a pool of her own blood, her skin was cut by the millions of tiny glass shards that once were the walls of the shower.
She was completely nude. But Wyatt couldn’t bring himself to care about that right now. He was completely shell shocked at this scene. His mind was silent and his body frozen. Then, the sound of water dripping brought him back to reality.

What. The. Actual. Fuck. Oh, this is so messed up. Wait... Shit the kid! Nope nope nope...
Wyatt quickly closed the door and turned to the tiny girl behind him.
She was shaking, but otherwise she was completely stone faced. Her eyes were red, probably from excessive crying, and her cheeks were swollen. But she didn’t shed any tears, her head was kept down. Wyatt scratched the back of his neck before opening his dumb ass mouth.
“Um. I am kind of scared to ask about your father then…”
“H-he… left when I was born. Mama said that he didn’t, uh, want me…”
The girl was getting teary eyed. She closed her tiny fists around her shirt but refused to cry, seemingly by pure willpower.
All while Wyatt was just kind of standing there, awkwardly. He was never the best with social situations, much less comforting someone. Now, he was faced with an immensely complicated situation. Oh how funny the world can be sometimes.
“I see. Well then, standing here won't do anything.”
He turned around and started going through the rooms next door, looking for some kind of large bed sheet or blanket. When he eventually found one, under the piles and piles of rubble and debris, he put it over the body of the woman.
“Kid, you got a name?”
The girl said nothing, she just clenched her fists and stared at the woman's body. Wyatt frowned. He could understand that she was grieving right now and all, but you shouldn’t ignore someone trying to help. That was just bad manners.
“Okay then. Well, now your name is sSchmutz. You’re filthy, dear god, wash up once in a while would ya?”
Wyatt really didn’t care how stupid that was coming from him, the fucking king of filth. He just felt that he needed to say something. Anything.
He tucked the sheet under the woman before he hauled her body over his shoulder. He then did a little juggle with the body, to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on his injured finger, trying to find a good weight balance. Once he found it, he turned back to the little girl with downcast eyes.
“How about you go downstairs and eat something while I take care of this mess.”
After giving the kid some instructions, he walked past the frozen childs body and down to the backyard. He flopped the body unceremoniously onto the floor and looked around for a shovel or something to sub in as one.
Once he found a shovel, he began digging.
After getting the outline of a hole around five feet long and four feet wide he took off his shirt, for fear of staining it further.
Some time had passed, it took longer because of his injured finger, so maybe two or three hours? But by that time he had dug a hole and put the woman's body, still wrapped up in the bed sheet, into the hole.
He patted the top of the disturbed dirt that marked the grave of an unknown woman. He had finished digging a while ago and was now just staring at the grave. His eyes were glossed over and his head was low.
I admit, this is not the best start to an exploration.
His face was a blank slate, no emotion was on it. He felt strangely empty. Not a sad empty but just empty.
A hole he didn’t know he had was in his stomach and it was growing. He felt as though the hole had already been with him before he found her body. If he was being honest with himself, it had probably appeared after he killed the stranger in his house.
Well that explains why I am still hungry even after eating two chip bags and a block of dry ramen. Damn it. I just want to eat and sulk in my hobbit hole of a home without worry. Ughhhhh why does everything have to be so unnecessarily complicated…
He was busy sulking in his thoughts to even notice the world around him.
Then, suddenly, Wyatt felt a tug on his belt.
It snapped him out of his depressing thoughts and back to the stone cold reality around him. Looking down, he saw Schmutz looking up at him with empty eyes. She pointed back inside the house where he could see something set up.
He looked back to the girl, nodded, and started walking with her back inside the house.
I hope there's some food. And a pair of boxers would be nice.

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
