《Chameleon: My True Face》Chapter 6 - Badu Island Secret - part 1

"My office! Now!"
The Chief Warden turned towards Long Qing and pointed at him while commanding angrily.
Even if the Chief Warden was pissed off right now, he was a great figure. He wouldn't be as tactless as Long Qing and create a scene in front of every prisoner, inevitably losing face. The Chief Warden had long earned the respect and awe of every person in this prison and he wouldn't allow some idiot to ruin it even if he was from the Seven Stars Special Forces.
However, the idiotic Long Qing didn't back down.
"He is a prisoner and he slandered me! There was nothing wrong with my order," he continued to argue while glaring at the Chief Warden.
Long Qing wanted to say more but he was stopped by Chief Warden's roar which spread into every corner of the Alpha Sector.
"NOW!"
The Chief Warden didn't waste more of his time talking to Long Qing and decided to leave at once. As he turned around, his gaze went past Wuxing and he paused for a second at the sight of his smug smile before leaving the hall.
From the moment Wuxing arrived at his prison, he already had a notion that it would not be easy to handle him. His theory turned out to be true.
He got a mysterious and scheming vibe from Wuxing. Usually, he was good at reading people's thoughts but when he looked at this newcomer, he couldn't get much from him aside that he would be a troublesome character.
Long Qing, on the other hand, was different. His thoughts were easy to read, like a map. He was simple to provoke and he couldn't hide his emotions.
Hearing his new boss roaring angrily at him and seeing him leaving him behind, there was nothing else Long Qing could do other than follow the Chief Warden. Otherwise, not only would he make a fool out of himself, but also he would provoke the man and risk insubordination.
He still wanted to mess with Wuxing so it would be a problem if he would suddenly be fired. Even with his father's reputation, it was actually difficult for him to get this job. If he were to lose it on his first day…
"We are not done!" Long Qing pointed at Wuxing and gave him a warning, glaring for the last time before following the Chief Warden.
"Ha ha ha! That felt good!"
One of the prisoners couldn't help but laugh seeing the new warden humiliated.
"Yeah, he is from Seven Stars to boost. That idiot warden deserved—"
Another prisoner joined in the fun but he was quite unlucky. One of the guards quickly came to him and tasered him with his baton which made him cry out, "Aaaargh, fuck!" His legs bent under the effect of electricity and he dropped to the ground immediately.
That guard yelled right after, "What are you laughing at? Who dares gossip? No one allowed you to talk! We are continuing our morning routine!"

Even if there was no warden leading them, these guards had been here long enough to know what they were supposed to do. The only uncertain variable was this Prisoner Number 42960 as they didn't know how to act towards him.
Listening to his previous speech, it was very easy to believe that what he said actually happened. He was brought to Badu Island on his own and quite secretively. Besides, it wasn't uncommon to hear of people of high standing abusing their powers and influence against those they considered an eyesore.
If what he said was the truth, he was quite pitiful. These guards certainly didn't need to bother him if he was innocent. Also, recalling their new warden's reaction, they were more inclined to believe what this prisoner said.
The guard who was the most senior of them all approached Wuxing and informed him awkwardly, "Sir… We will be doing a morning routine now. Hope you can follow our commands."
Wuxing smiled towards that guard and casually patted him on the shoulder. He assured him, "Don't worry. I won't trouble you guys as long as you don't trouble me. My close friend from Seven Stars should already be working on freeing me from the outside but it will probably take some time. I hope you can bear with me for a few weeks."
Hearing Wuxing's words, that guard was even more assured that he was innocent.
"Oh, I'm glad to hear that. My name is Yun Kun. I'm the Chief Guard of the Alpha Sector. If you need anything, sir, you can just inform me."
His fast change of attitude was considered by him as an investment. If Wuxing ended up leaving Badu Island, then there was a chance he would be remembered.
"Yun Kun. I will remember." Wuxing nodded before he stood back on the red line. The Chief Guard smiled after being acknowledged and walked away happily. Wuxing knew what the guard wanted, so he gave it to him.
During the morning routine, Wuxing received a few privileges that other prisoners could only dream of. The so-called 'morning routine' consisted of normal daily stuff like bathing, breakfast and a jog inside the compound.
Wuxing could bathe alone in a separate shower room and the food he received was the hefty meal that only guards were entitled to. However, he knew that this special treatment wouldn't last long. Long Qing, as the warden assigned to his sector, would definitely mess it up for him, so he enjoyed it as much as he could.
If a normal person was here for the first time, one would think that the prison in Badu Island was just a normal prison, no more different than others and that person would be greatly confused. After all, this was supposed to be a maximum security prison where all worst criminals with the most heinous records were being held.
Wuxing was also wondering why the security seemed lax and the lifestyle here didn't seem to be that hard until he heard of the activities after the morning routine.

After everyone finished their light warm-up jog, they were led towards the deeper parts of Badu Island outside of the Alpha Sector, together with prisoners from other sectors. Everyone was grouped together and made to queue in front of a giant double door made of iron.
Looking at the faces of other prisoners, many had bags under their eyes. Based on their haggard looks, they were not looking forward towards this activity. On the other hand, some had smiles on their faces as if they couldn't wait to enter inside.
Wuxing liked to have everything under his control, so when an unknown factor like this appeared, he had to make sure to learn more about it.
He looked around but didn't spot Chief Guard Yun Kun to ask him so he decided to ask a random person behind him. "Hey, man, I'm new here. What is behind those doors?"
He made sure to ask someone who looked tired as he would probably give him the worst case scenario, which was what he wanted at the moment.
Unfortunately, he didn't ask the right person as the man only cursed at him. "Who do you think I am? An information centre? Fuck off!"
They were arranged in a line with a distance in between queues so if Wuxing wanted to secretly bother someone else, there was only the prisoner in front of him.
He turn around causing the man behind him to smirk, but when the guards weren't looking, Wuxing suddenly launched his elbow backwards, hitting the rude man exactly on his liver before returning back to a casual position as if nothing happened. The attack was so fast that it didn't even take Wuxing half a second to strike.
Of course, the body shot that the man had taken made him fall on his knees. His face was distorted in immense pain. The moment he lay on the ground curled like a shrimp, it alerted the guards.
"Hey! What is going on there?!"
Wuxing turned around and looked at the rude man in innocent surprise. "Man, are you okay?"
Two guards approached and both looked at Wuxing suspiciously. One checked the man's condition. He was still on the ground, wriggling in pain. "Did anyone see what happened to him?"
"He just suddenly dropped to the ground for no reason. No one even touched him." one of the prisoners in the line next to them shrugged. However, he had an interested expression when he glanced at Wuxing.
"I can confirm. He just fell," another prisoner agreed right after.
"Fuck, let's take him away." The guard glared at them and said to his friend. He knew that he won't be able to get anything from them.
"Hey, new guy, that was a nice body shot," complimented the prisoner who first defended him as soon as the two guards dragged the rude man away. "From which sector are you?"
Wuxing seemed to find this prisoner familiar but ever since he started working for Seven Stars, he hadn't bothered to remember most of the people he met as that would only create a mess in his brain. He only needed some distinct attributes of the people here to recall in the future.
He spotted a black crow tattoo on the man's right arm.
"I'm from the Alpha Sector. You?" Wuxing nodded at him without showing any emotions. He didn't need to particularly thank him for helping him out a moment ago as that was normal behavior for men like them. No one liked snitches and it was especially the case inside a prison.
Some other things that Wuxing noticed in one glance were the purple hair as well as a crescent-shaped scar near his left ear. Those three were enough for him to recognize this man in the future.
"Oh, I should have guessed. The moment I saw you, I knew that you were dangerous. Only the most famous and the most dangerous are assigned to the Alpha Sector. What is your name? Maybe I heard about you." The man with a crow tattoo looked at Wuxing in excitement, as if he found a treasure.
Wuxing's gaze turned cold upon realizing that the man wanted to know too much. He ignored the question and asked one of his own.
"What is happening behind those doors?" If he did not get his answer this time, he would ignore him.
"Oh, yeah, you asked the guy behind you the same thing. Must be your first day. Well, I could tell you but you will get a tour by the guards anyway. Since they would explain everything to you, I would only waste my breath right now. When you finish your tour, I will try to find you and give you some tips." The man glanced at Wuxing's ankles and noticing that there was nothing there, he nodded in understanding.
That move definitely did not escape Wuxing's eyes. He immediately looked around and noticed that every prisoner had a bulge under their pants around their ankles. He could not help but ask while frowning, "What do you guys have on your legs?"
"You mean this?" The man with a crow tattoo smiled and pulled up his pants, revealing an ankle monitor that hugged tightly around his leg.
"It is an advanced GPS bracelet that tracks your every move inside this prison, even outside of here. It's made from specially processed titanium. Not only is it harder than steel, but also, it has a higher melting point. If you want to get rid of it by yourself, you will definitely have to say goodbye to your leg.
"It tightens around your bones which basically makes you unable to cut through it. It's itchy and heavy, a real pain in the ass," the chatterbox continued to explain as they walked forward in the queue.

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.
