《reincarnated adversaries》Chapter 1: Green fire

As he looked at the stage he felt his stomach getting upset like it usually did when he was nervous. He could not believe it was almost over. After ten years of hard work, they were going to finally kill the bastard. He still didn't understand why they didn't let him put a bullet in his head the moment he had gotten him. His god-given rights he supposed. If only they understood that even God would want this son of a bitch dead as soon as possible.
But they had decided to do it publicly. Make the president get every inch of publicity for his reelection. He was the leader who had captured the most dangerous man in more than a hundred years and he was going to let the world know it. He was going to be an example of what happens to criminals like these and that nobody else should walk in his footsteps. But Mathew knew that it didn't matter. It wouldn't take long before they would romanticize him and make movies about how he was a free spirit who also by chance killed more than a hundred million people. The judge had ruled that he could only be held accountable for the death of thousands he had killed as the head of a criminal organization and not the death of the people who willingly took his drugs but he didn't care. This man was a plague to the world and he would make sure he was killed today. By lethal injection or any other means necessary.
He saw them bringing out this older man who was going bald and looked like he hadn't eaten in months. He was so weak they had to carry him. Nobody would believe this was the same man who had toppled two governments in Africa and killed more American soldiers than any army sins the Vietnam war. And yet the president who was a fool tried to parade this man around the country trying to win the people's heart who knew he wasn't fit to lead the country. Luckily this was the last stop, the president's own hometown, New York City.
He had started as part of the president's inner circle but had quickly been assigned to simple guard duty after he had warned the president one too many times that they needed to kill this man before he had to chance to do anything. He would walk into his cell and put a bullet in his head, that was the only way to get rid of him safely. He knew that they could not get rid of the drugs he had invented and the damage he had caused but at least he wouldn't do any more damage than he had already caused.

They escorted the man to the podium and the president spend the next ten minutes given the same speech he had given many times before. Something like this had never happened before and could not happen if the detainee was an American citizen. But this man was an illegal alien and for some reason had agreed to this. Only after 2 weeks had Mathew found out why the president had promised him to not touch his family back in Iran if he agreed to do this. Something he was glad about. From all, he knew his family had nothing to do with his drug business and he still could go after the other leaders of the crime syndicate.
If only he didn't need the funding the president was providing, then he could have shut this whole thing down. But he kept thinking about the future and how he needed that funding to finally be the man who would win the war against drugs. He was going the one to finally do it, rid the world of this disease that had taken his father away from him when he was only nine years old.
He watched the president finish his speech and turn towards Abbas which was unusual. He never let the man speak in the fear he would reveal something. But it seemed like even a man like Abbas had the rights to say a couple of final words. They took off the mouth guard he had on and the president took a couple of steps back and asked if he had any final words almost making it sound like a dramatic play.
Abbas tried to get himself to stand up but he didn't have the power to do so. He was a broken man. He had stopped eating weeks ago and they had to force him to drink some water from time to time as they were afraid he would die. It was clear to everyone, this man had given up on life.
When the president noticed this he ordered the presenter who was a blond woman he was also sleeping with to take the microphone to him.
“Do you have any final words?” She asked as the crowd started to shout fore his head even louder.

“THAT BASTARD KILLED MY SON, HE DOESN'T DESERVER A FINAL WORD! OFF WITH HIS HEAD,” a man shouted from inside the crowd. Mathew knew him, he was the son of a young soldier who had died trying to catch him, from then on the man would use the media attention to try to catch and bring Abbas to justice. At least that's what he said he was doing. Mathew knew people like him, attention seekers who would even use their own son's death to be the center of attention.
Abbas reached for the microphone and in a low voice said, “I never meant to be the way I'm. I'm sorry for all the damage I have caused.”
The next moment something happened that Mathew had never expected, the man he had feared his whole adult life started to cry as he continued, “please don't kill me, I don't want to die!”
Mathew started to push the crowd as he tried to get closer to the podium. He was up to something! He had studied this man for many years and he knew for a fact, he wasn't afraid of death.
Abbas started to cry even harder which caused the people in the crowd to curse and even mock him.
Abbas waited a couple of minutes before he looked into the crowd for the first time clearly with a smile on his face and said, “this is what you expected wasn't it?”
The president seeing this was taken aback but didn't show it. This was even better for him, the more they hated him the more they would love him.
“Let's see if you god can save you from this,” Abbas said as he opened his mouth and bit it close with all the force he had clearly trying to break his teeth.
“NO STOP HIM!” Mathew said in fear. He didn't know what he was up to but he knew it wasn't good. He looked at Abbas in fear as he saw the man's head and then his body slowly get on what seemed to be green fire.
The people looked in shock as Abbas started to scream and was burned into nothingness in less than a couple of seconds. It took a couple of minutes before the president collected himself and walked towards the stage to address the people.
“It seemed like the devil of the middle east has decided to kill himself here today. I want the world to know that this is the-” the president tried to say before he felt like his flesh was on fire. He saw his men run towards him but it was already too late to think about that. The next moment he felt the pain he had never felt before in his life and he quickly lose consciousness.
Mathew looked at the president in shock as he saw the most powerful man in the free world being burned alive right in front of him and the whole world. Everyone around him stood there, speechless. But that is not the end of it. Slowly more and more people started to spontaneously catch fire. He could hear everyone around him scream either from panic or pain as they tried to run away. But it was already too late.
Mathew looked at his hand that had already caught on fire but was quickly hit from behind by someone who was trying to flee from the scene. He couldn't believe this was his end. He the man who was destined to change the world would die today. He tried to take out his sidearm as he was lying down on the ground, trying to end it before his whole body caught fire. But it was already too late. He couldn't control his body anymore and had to watch how hundreds of people were being burned alive before he himself came to his end.

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
