《Return Of The Sovereign》Coins

Kai stood in front of the two-story building, watching it with a bland expression. The soft gush of wind woke him up from his stupor, it made him realized that he had been here for a few minutes without actually approaching the Cimbus Family Auction House. He looked at the man sitting on the bench, wearing a white ring with intricate details of a beast. To have a B Class beast-type summoner guard the door was actually saying a lot of things about this Auction house. Usually, they assigned C Class for jobs like this. But to have a B Class as a guard? It seems that the auction house wasn't as simple as it looked from the outside.
"We are closed. We open at seven in the evening until four." The man didn't open his eyes. "Come back later."
"I am selling."
"Oh?" He opened his left eye, brows lifted towards him. Seeing that he was wearing a long cloak that covered his face, the man stood from the bench. "Follow me."
The man quickly took him to the second floor of the building and into a small room with a small table and two benches. "What do you want to sell?"
"Potions."
The man nodded. "Wait here." Then he left Kai alone in the room. After a few minutes, a man walked inside.
Wearing a black long robe with an eye-catching logo of the Cimbus Clan on the left side of his clothes, the man immediately introduced himself as Nicou the product appraiser.
"This guest, I want to be honest with you. Right now, we have a lot of potions to sell. Meaning, your potion might not sell immediately. The Pharmacist Hall is monopolizing all the potion sells so not many people buy the potions from us unless they need to," Nicou had an honest face with a gentle smile. His gaze was fatherly, yet, Kai could feel something sinister hiding behind his eyes. Perhaps it was the fact that he was doing business and just like most businessmen, Nicou would surely prioritize profits.

"My potion is different."
"Different? How different?"
"It could heal faster…" Kai waited for the man to react.
"You mean… you have a healing potion that could heal people faster?"
"Yes."
Nicou turned silent before he instructed the guard to call another person named Fazil. It didn't take too long for the balding man to arrive in the room.
"You called for me?"
Nicou smiled at the man before turning towards Kai. "Respected guest, this is Fazil he is a level one potioneer. He should be able to check your potion."
"Sir, what kind of potion are you selling? May I see it?"
"It's a healing potion that could heal faster than what was on the market," Nicou said.
Fazil didn't hide the excitement in his eyes when he heard Nicou's words. "Respected sir, may I see it?" Seeing this, Kai complied as he removed the two vials from his robe and handed it to Fazil.
"You can test it. It's faster than the normal ones."
Fazil nodded. "You get me a regular healing potion!" He pointed at the guard. "Respected sir, may I know if you are the one who made this?" Fazil said as he held the potion against the only light inside the room. "It's not as clear as the regular healing potion."
Of course, the potion is not going to be clear because he used his lightning to cleanse it and not the usual Star Rye. Kai just nodded. Usually, a healing potion is colorless. However, his potions were white.
After a few minutes, the guard arrived with another potion in hand. Fazil didn't hesitate.
He grabbed the dagger from his hips and used it to cut a small wound on the back of his palm. Then he used the same dagger to cut an identical wound next to it.

Without any hesitation, Fazil poured the regular potion on his wound. A small drop should be enough to heal it. Then he poured a drop of Kai's potion in the other wound. Almost immediately the one with Kai's potion started to close at an alarming rate. Even Kai was surprised to see it.
He thought of the growing mushroom and immediately concluded that maybe, the properties of the mushroom also increased as it became bigger.
"Eh? Look! It's completely healed! I can't even see a scar! Look at the ones with a regular potion! You can still see the sign of the scar!" Nicou beamed, excitement apparent in his eyes. "Respected guest, if I may ask— "
"I only have two for now. But I am planning to make more of these." Kai interrupted him. He already knew what he was going to ask. Nicou mentioned the monopoly from the Pharmacists, the organization for the potion masters. If the Cimbus would get a product like this, it would mean an increase in their sales.
"When?" Even Fazil was excited about the potion. "Do you have a name for this potion?"
"Uh… Isn't that just a healing potion?"
Fazil chuckled. "What? No. This is beyond healing! The ladies would surely love a product like this."
"I can make four in two days," Kai said.
"Then that's fine. We will sell this in an auction tonight. For the price… hmmm."Nicou stroked his chin. "How about this… as long as you only supply us with the potion, we will pay two silver coins for each vial? Please remember that a regular healing potion is sold in the pharmacist's hall at fifty copper coins and that is already considered a very low price. We are selling the regular for one silver coin. And we are buying to buy your potion for two silver coins. How about that?"
Kai sighed inwardly. The thing is, he isn't very good at any business transactions. He was good at killing but not talking about money. "Alright. I agree."
"Really?"
"Yes. I just… have two requests."
"Sure!"
"I want to keep my identity a secret," Kai said.
"Of course. The Cimbus clan valued privacy above everything." Nicou immediately promised. He was already planning to keep Kai's identity a secret even if he didn't tell him to. After all, he is a very important guest.
"Second. I want the payment all in… copper coins."

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

Grey's Faith
Set in an alternate Elizabethan Britain, the world of Grey's Faith is one based on historical events, but not held hostage by them. In this world, Angels appear to the faithful, and perform miracles. But those miracles must be paid for with sacrifice, and the price is always rising. Meanwhile, other powers are reviled as witchcraft, their practitioners hunted and killed without mercy. The most feared of all are Blood Witches, their power is to use blood to push their body beyond its natural limits, heal mortal wounds and even lay curses on their victims. Three orphans hiding magical powers are thrust from their dismal but sheltered life in an Elizabethan orphanage and into a secretive world of magic and intrigue. Conscripted as agents of the Crown, they must do their country's dirty work in exchange for their lives. When their powers put them on either side of a magical war, where will their loyalties fall? How far will they go to keep one another safe? Trigger Warning: This story contains graphic scenes of violence, poverty and misery. It features teenagers being put in harms way, being injured, and dying. It is also critical of organised religion and its impact on society, so be aware of that if it is something you might find upsetting. Releases Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
