《Return Of The Sovereign》Testing Part 2

For a few seconds, Kai froze, eyes straight towards the platform. On his eighth birthday, he already had himself tested; everyone in the Ergon Clan has themselves tested at that age. However, during the test, his parents weren't able to detect the other core inside his body. They knew he was an SS Class- a one in a million type of summoner. But they weren't aware of the other SS Class Core inside his body.
From this body's memories, no one else knew about his elemental core. Of course, this made him happy. After all, everyone feared Elemental Summoners. If Kai wanted to stay low—key to earn money, then all he needed to do is act like a normal academy student.
He smiled and nodded at the facilitator before walking towards the platform. He should stop thinking about his own clan. After all, they were all dead.
He lowered his head, hiding the emotion in his eyes.
"Hands," the Facilitator ordered. Without saying anything, he put his hands on the crystal ball. Closing his eyes, the ball beneath his hands hummed, sending small electric pulses into his core that was located on his navel. By now, the colors of the crystal were already changing. He knew it was futile.
To someone with his bloodline, the ball was useless. Or at least that's what his parents said. This was the reason why they used a different type of stone that was said to come from outside of the planet. The surprise gasp of the facilitator woke him up from his stupor. "Dark Blue!"
Yells and cheers erupted. Just below the highest Purple Summoner, a dark blue soul Summoner was also known as an A-Class Summoner. Capable of summoning legendary and spiritual beasts and weapons. Wasn't that something that one should celebrate? Victory flashed in his eyes as he turned towards the facilitator. "What does that mean?" It was a silly question. Yet, he needed to pretend. Ignorance was bliss, and this was the only thing that could make people trust him.

A flash of hate glinted in his eyes.
Royals…
Just the mere thought of their names made his blood boil in fury. Despite not being this body's original soul, Kai could barely stop the hate that he felt towards the people who ordered the annihilation of the Ergon Clan.
"That's one rank below the Revered Purple S Class! Congratulations!" The facilitator gave him a smile full of approval. "Now… unto the affinity. Right-handed?" He nodded and put his hands into the crystal.
[Jealous Human Detected. Summon Mushrooms that devours jealous mortals. Please pay 100 coins.]
[To Summon the mushrooms say: Summon!]
Kai forced a smile on his face as he looked at the crystal, ignoring the murderous voices inside him. Ten thousand years ago, only demons could whisper things like this to humans. He tried to test if this body was a demon but ended up with nothing.
He was human.
Swallowing all the curses he wanted to say to the voices, Kai smiled and waited for the crystal's result.
This time, the crystal told the truth. He was a weed. Well… at least that's what everyone used to call them now — a useless weed. As expected, the excitement in the air immediately died down. Everyone's faces turned stiff as disappointment laced their gaze. A weed is useless! How could a Dark Blue A Class Summoner become a weed? What kind of cursed fate was that?
He could hear whispers of mockery in the air as some people started laughing at him.
"Give him the ring." The facilitator quickly said. "Ignore them. They are stupid." He whispered. Kai gave a low hum in response. If this was ten thousand years ago, Kai would have easily killed anyone who gave him a disrespectful gaze. However, the times had changed. The betrayal that caused his death in his past life was enough to teach him how cruel life was. It was enough to teach him how to ignore the insignificant and focus on his real goal. "Good." The facilitator added. "I will see you in the Academy." He patted his shoulder before gesturing him to leave the platform.

Kai nodded as he jumped off the platform. Being a Dark Blue A Class Weed was rare. However, this did not mean that he was considered special either. Along with the missing part of history from thousands of years ago, the writings about plant summoners were also buried, forgotten, or maybe even purposely lost by people who feared their ability. Because of this, people in this Era had little to no idea how powerful Plant Summoners are.
This was another reason he wanted to come to one of the best Academies in the Wren Kingdom. He wanted to know. He wanted access to its enormous library and read about the things that had happened in the past. People don't just forget something as important as summoning different types of plants. Something must have happened. Something must have made them forget.
Slowly, he walked out of the crowd and out of the stadium. There was no need to stay in this place any longer, he thought. He then raised his head as he looked at the cloudless sky that immediately reminded him of his death from ten thousand years ago.
At that time, he believed it was the end of the road for him. Who would have thought that fate decided to intervene? Waking up in another body more than ten thousand years after his death, Kai always wondered why fate had given someone like him a second chance.
He lowered his head and laughed inwardly. His habit of thinking about the past was somehow overwhelming. He tightened his hands around his ring before he decided to put it on his left hand. Then he started walking towards the gates. Transmigrated or not, one thing was for sure, he was not here to redeem himself. He was not here to apologize for everything that he did in his past life.
He was here to live a new life. And that was exactly what he would do. He gave the stadium another eye before letting out a deep sigh. The first thing that he needed to do was research the real reason why Kai's clan was killed for an unknown reason. At least, he owed it to this young boy's body.
To someone who had killed thousands in his past, doing something like this was easy. He could do it overnight.
However, this was a different time. Without the ring that was provided by the Academy, people here could not summon their beasts and weapons inside the Kingdom. Along with these changes, there were things that Kai never understood. Like how their abilities were now limited and controlled by the kingdom. How they no longer had access to the powerful dragons and serpents that could move mountains.
For the umpteenth time, questions started piling up in Kai's head. As usual, he could not answer them. Since he came into this world three years ago, these questions had been keeping him awake at night.
The grumbling in his stomach made him smile. It immediately reminded him that in this lifetime, aside from being an orphan, he was also poor!
Kai halted his steps as he sighed. Being poor in this era was difficult, ah! Then he started walking. This time, he walked towards the Hunter's Building. He really should stop thinking about Ergon Clan. Instead, he should concentrate on earning money, earning coins.

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.
