《Colorful World》Chapter 10 - Tomorrows Trip

Two knocks sounded at the door, alerting Langs translator to his surprise morning guest. Cleaning himself up by brushing down any hair he felt standing or straying to the side with his hand warmed by the morning light. He grasped his clicker that was heated nicely by the light from the window and clicked to respond.
A figure slowly appeared from the doorway giving a pause before quickly rushing in, the brunette hair flowed behind her as she rushed in to squeeze Lang. Tender lips graced his cheek with a slight touch but he felt the tender skin of another cheek nuzzled right against his.
"Goooood Morning sweetheart!"
"Mom...Scared... Me."
"Oh? Good. You sure gave me and the staff a fright yesterday."
Remembering his actions yesterday he only realized after pondering how strange it would it have been for someone to grab his arm and take a big whiff before leaving and saying nothing. His heart ached as he clutched his face, the heat flushing his skin lightly as he berated himself for being too lost in his thoughts.
Wait I can't believe I wanted to hide this but acted like that! Did I just tell everyone what I was doing? Is this a good thing though... No no, It can't be good that means everyone... is having weird thoughts about me! I have to clear this up.
Feeling around the bed for his mother's hand he clasped it in hers as he slowly crawled out of bed to stand on the floor. Tugging her arm gently he laid a hand onto his stomach indicating his hunger, and upon seeing Lang act like a child around her she smiled softly and guided him along. As they made their way to the dining room Valerie informed the passing butlers to tell the kitchen to prepare breakfast early. Watching Lang closer, she could see for herself that Lang was serious with what he was doing, even with his eye's closed his face was stern, concentrated on the world around him.
"Lang, where did you go to learn this?"
"... Reynold... help..."
"The guard quarters? They're not rough on you, are they? Tell mom and I'll rough them up too, okay?"
"Okay..."
"..."
"..."
"Say, Lang... Would you like to go on that trip tomorrow?"
As the translator picked up the word, they vibrated into the words he had hoped to hear, the wisp of colors, the little sparks of emotion that they held had created an obsession. He would often glance over to remind himself of what his hardships would be rewarded with and the feelings of his actions of who they would protect in the future. Nodding his head quickly the most radiant smile Valerie had ever seen bloomed onto his lips, the morning flushed skin, the pearly teeth, the round face full of innocence and excitement had struck her heart. As she slammed his fist onto a passing table she could not help but scream out internally.
Noir was right! My little son will catch some bad girl's eyes!

Oblivious to her reaction, the anticipation of tomorrow fueled him for today, and as they entered and were seated onto the table Lang's nose picked up on a missing scent. He had noticed that the scent did not seem to be around them either as the food was brought in, and as he focused on each scent of arms that laid the dishes or handled the utensils. Pulling the clicked out of his pocket, Lang asked his mother about Noir.
"Noir...Where..."
"Noir? Hmm, she helped me last night, so I'm sure she scrambling to get ready after waking up late?"
"That... her... funny... sis..."
"Right?... Noir worked hard to help me with documents so I could finish them early today, I'll let her off the hook today for waking up late."
After hearing about her assisting his mother Lang decided it would be best if he did not bother Noir today and give her a simple and relaxed afternoon. Gratefully thanking her in his mind he turned his attention to the savory smell in front of him, today the staff had left him a bowl, as he felt the edges it seemed as they had prepared a broth. Bringing the bowl of soup up to his mouth, he gently brought the edge to his lips and tilted the bowl, siping generously.
Salty! Savory! Spicy and Sour! Ahhhh, I can feel my body waking up with every drop, the beef broth, and the cut-up noodles, the fresh texture of pieces of spicy chili, and the hint of lime... Oh! it tastes fresh... I think it's cut-up cilantro...A bowl of morning pho! I guess they have the beef on the side after the last times incident of me accidentally choking on a piece.
Finishing his soup Lang gently placed the soup back down onto the table, and as he finished his mother chimed in, voicing out that she would help him with the sliced beef next. With a nod, she wrapped a thin slice of garlic in it before lightly dipping it in hoisin and sriracha and placing it under his nose. the tickling smell had opened his mouth eagerly as he ate it.
"Eat slowly Lang, don't choke okay?... Lang, mom will finish up early today, would you like to walk with your mom in the garden later today?"
"Please... Like..."
As the two bonded, breakfast was gradually finished with the two smiling, Noir, who had been waiting out the doorway was embarrassed at herself for being absent quietly snuck in, naturally giving out a dry smile as she retrieved the finished plate as Valerie mischievously watched her. Swapping jokes with Valerie before bidding her farewell, Noir had grasped Lang's hand to attend to him as they walked around. However, it was not long before he had requested to head off to Reynolds, stopping and pausing she switched the route as they head next door.
"...Noir... Sis..."
"Ah! Yes!...Lang?"
"Funny..."
"Tch... Young Master, are you learning to tease us now?"

"No... Wrong... I..."
"Ahaha... I'm sorry."
Noir? what are you sorry about?...
"I was a little bit scared about how you were acting yesterday night when I saw you..."
Ah.
"... Sis... Watch... Today..."
Glancing at Lang she smiled softly, as this was the same boy she had been with, always straightforward with her and everyone else, it was thoughtless of her to be frightened of him simply from how he acted. Actions stem from reasoning, therefor her current thought is that there had to be a reason for his behavior. She would closely watch him, this time without backing away.
Stepping into the guard's lounge, she had buzzed for Reynold as she sat herself and Lang down, the ticking of the clock could only be heard up until the point where Reynolds walked in.
Acknowledging her, Reynold paced himself up to Lang, his hand raising and settling down onto his shoulder and after a moment he nodded to himself, and bidding a goodbye to Noir. Shaking her head, she then informed Reynold of Lang's request for her to watch. Reynolds a bit taken back did not know what had happened in the mansion yesterday night, to his knowledge this was a secret only him and his team knew. With some persistent but sure debreifing he had come to know that Lang had made a spectacle last night.
With his bulky finger the rubbed the bridge of his nose and forehead, two or so day had passed but Lang could not keep the training under the radar. A breath had come out in a long sigh as he, himself, had never forbid Lang to show this to other specifically, that was his own fault for not warning Lang how much of a rucus this would cause.
"Alright, Noir, go out to the field outside and sit on the bench, we'll be out shortly."
"...Got it, don't take too long Reynold, I want to see Lang working hard."
"Well you'll see something."
.....
"Lang, my boy, I'll tell you this now, do not let anyone outside this estate know you can do this until you perfect it. Nothing good will come in the future if you let to many secret out."
"Sorry... Uncle... No... Mad..."
"Mad? No, I'm extremely proud of you. You little stinker! You caught on real quick! Lang, two days? Look at you!"
Upon receiving Reynolds praise, he could only duck his head lower with embarrassment, smiling as he timidly picked at his finger. Seconds passed as he then felt Reynold unlacing his shoes and slipping them off, storing them away before clasping Langs hand.
When they arrived at the open field, a group of guards surrounded Lang's three usual training partners, jealous that they had a bit of an easier day today. The three, Gill, Anthony, and Rick as well as the other guards spread apart as the captain arrived. Guiding Lang to the center while sending the others to continue their training he had the three assume their positions. Noir who sat on the bench close by was intently watching Lang, taking note of his stance, his confidence, his bare feet that stood as if attached to the ground.
Lang you're going to steal my heart in the future if you don't stop! Sheesh!
Handing out instructions similar to before, Reynold had the three in turns walk slowly towards Lang. This day was a bit different then before, Lang had sharpened on his contemplation before, the smells as well, he will use his available sense to the extreme.
"Hey Gill do you think that Lang can do this today?"
"No, this seems to be his limit, he looks like he's hesitating."
*****
The smell is stronger since they were exercising before we got here, don't try anything yet, I have to wait, memorize when the scent is the strongest and combine with when I feel their steps.
Focus... Harder focus harder... slight vibrations... the faint smell that is the strongest right when in front of me...
If I grab.. now... no I'll be off...
Follow the scents and movements... reach out when my head is in the middle...
One.
*****
"Oh shit Anthony got caught!"
"What'd I tell you guys! He learned how to feel our movements so easily before when we ran, I had no doubt he can do this again!"
Settling himself next to Noir, Reynold appreciated her widened eyes and agape mouth while resting a hand on her shoulder and holding a thumb up. Noir was speechless, what happened in the room before was in fact what she had thought Lang did know that she was standing out in the doorway, he could indeed tell when and where someone was there. This was almost as if he could see them which astonished her more since she could not imagine anyone else simply replicating the result.
...Alicia... He's...
*****
Under the shade of the great tree sat a pair while a third shadow tended to them each time her lips moved, they were either with joy or surprise. The woman listening Savored each word as she tasted her tea, a harmonious atmosphere akin to a mother daughter relationship formed as one spoke and the other attentively listened.
Valerie was entranced with each detail as her gaze shifted from Noir to Lang, her pride as a mother soared, but so did her question, why would he suddenly learning this technique. What does the end goal look like, and if she should silently care for him, preventing others from having a hint of learning through more rumors.
Shaking her head, Valerie could only push the lingering thoughts into the crevices of her mind as she refocused on the conversation with Noir, her fingers dancing gently through Lang's hair as he rested.
*****
"Is he the target?"
"This is a bit of an old picture, however he shouldn't be hard to find with his conditions."
"Then, lets send some scouts to watch for an opportunity."

Just a Game
“A great corruption is spreading. The people cry out for a savior. For a hero. For YOU! Come join the fight, as the chosen of World Tree! Receive the blessings of the gods, battle fierce monsters, and become the hero you were meant to be, in Arcanum Online!” It was the cheesiest commercial Ethan had ever heard, but the gameplay was enough to draw him - and thousands of others - to the fantasy world of Lazuros. It’s the sort of place that can really draw you in - a huge open world, a deep character customization system, and a feature that makes time pass slower inside the game, extending your limited playtime! It was a little strange, though. As if it was a bit too realistic for a game of swords and sorcery. The NPC’s seemed almost alive, most quests didn’t reset and monsters respawned slowly. Still, for all it’s quirks, it was a good game! Just a game. And nothing more. …right?
