《The Idiot Centurion And His Idiot Men》Chapter 1 – The Centurion And His Camp

Part 1
After a few more hours of marching, Lucious, the Centurion stopped.
"..."
Aside from the loud crickets, the pleasing swaying of the winds brushing up against the Legionnaire's armor and the owls hooting; everyone kept silent.
"Okay, I'm lost."
Lucious sighed, and leaned against a nearby bark tree.
"WE KNOW."
Every single man behind Lucious fell to their knees, face-palming as they groaned.
With this all known, everyone already knew what to do, it was to set up camp. The sun was already beginning to rise, so even without Lucious orders, all the men bursted from their marching formation and into the woods to chop down some trees, gather supplies and build a small camp.
How did they even get lost?
During this period of time, the mighty Roman Emperor, Claudius during AD 43 ordered the Roman Legions into the coastline of Britain for a simple invasion. After landing, there was a fight with the natives in there, but they were repelled.
Following this battle, the Legion decided to set up camp nearby. To collect materials for this, the Senior Centurion ordered Lucious's Century to collect wood for their cohort to build the camp, so Lucious, the Centurion of his Century of 80 men, grabbed them and marched out into the wilderness of Britain.
They went a little too far, and couldn't find their way back.
Now they're lost.
An hour past, and an officer's tent was roughly made for Lucious, whom sat inside.
Hey hey hey... What the fuck do I do now?
Being a Centurion wasn't the most simple job, he was practically the defacto leader of his men here. And with that, comes responsibility.
Yes, that sounds really cool, but it's not cool when you're going to take responsibility for a desertion and treason charge against the Empire.

Even though they're lost, right now, they've by definition technically deserted from the Fourteenth Legion Gemina, the legion they belong to.
The thought of getting capital punishment for an accident shot a sharp chill down Lucious's spine.
Lucious was a seasoned warrior for the Fourteenth Legion, serving within this century as a Legionary working up his way up with achievements and loyalty up to the rank of Centurion of the very same century he joined.
He boasted significant muscle mass with dark tanned, scarred skin from all his expeditions. He looked pretty scary with his demeaning glare, which was just his normal face. Unfortunately, women and children got scared easily from that.
From his cheek all the way to his chest was a thick long scar from one of his battles.
He ever so rarely wore his Centurion helmet but was strict on the silver-plated armour that he wore.
Within this century, the best fighter was probably him.
Too bad he's a fucking idiot.
"Hey... What do we do now?"
Lucious looked to his side, where his Opito Gaius and his Tesserarius, Emilia stood.
"I dunno, sir."
Gaius, the second in command of the century shrugged with an absent look on his face.
"Holy shit you're both stupid idiots."
The only intelligent one here, Emilia, slammed her Centurion's desk harshly.
She was the only woman in the legion, which was pretty weird.
No women were allowed to become soldiers in Rome, but she was different. She was an Auxillary, Auxillary were soldiers who weren't Roman citizens, but even for an Auxillary, women still weren't allowed to become soldiers.
During an earlier expedition in Gaul (modern-day France), Lucious picked her up from one of the villagers while she was just 15 years old, and decided to keep her. Staying within his century for years more, she grew and grew into a more trustworthy and capable person, she was the fifth strongest fighter within the century.

With permission from a higher up, she was given the enviable promotion into Tesserarius who was responsible for night guarding and watching over the base.
"Ahh, Emilia, you're so pretty."
The second in command Optio, dreamily sighed before he was smacked out of the tent by Emilia.
"Don't treat him so roughly, he's a may be an Optio, but he's a very young man."
Lucious, with his hand lazily resting on his chin wearily suggested.
An Optio was the second-in-command to the entire century, if something happened to Lucious, the men would follow Optio Gaius as a de-facto Centurion.
"Shut up, now, I suggest that we send scouts all around immediately to find the main army."
Lucious almost forgot how much of a serious person Emilia was.
"Why not let my men rest a little? We've been walking for hours."
"-We'll all be executed if they even suspect. us. of. deserting. the. main. army!"
Emilia slammed her fist on his table again multiple times with each word
Ah, I almost forgot about that.
Standing up, resting his hand on the hilt of his blade, Lucious walked out of his tent and turned around:
"Do whatever, just get the job done."
Lucious smirked.
Part 2
Lucious walked around his poorly made makeshift camp, half of his men were out chopping down trees and collecting food from the region.
The moment he walked out, a few men who were still inside camp immediately noticed him and flocked to him for orders.
Around eight men stood at attention in front of Lucious, Lucious could tell from their expressions that these guys were raw recruits that he newly conscripted into the century to replace his fallen comrades from the landing battle into Britain.
"At ease, gentlemen."
With that said, they eased their shoulders, and brought their chins down, but they weren't at ease.
They were trembling.
Lucious was around 2 meters tall or 6'6, which was monstrously huge compared to the average Roman man. Most of his men were around 5'2, or 155cm tall. Not only that, his eyes glared at them almost angrily, even though he wasn't really angry.
His wide shoulders overshadowed them as he breathed silently and heavily, there was no way they could be at ease with such a monster as their leader.
Those who fought with Lucious got used to his scary appearance, and weren't bothered by it. But 3/4 of his original men had died, replaced by all raw recruits, straight from the comfortable seats of Rome.
"Emilia- I mean, the Guard Commander (Tesserarius) should be at the officer's tent. She has orders all eight of you specifically."
"R-Really?"
The men looked surprised that they were called on specifically.
Though, they weren't.
They all rushed to the officer's tent, leaving Lucious behind.
Suddenly, a thought came into Lucious's head.
Ah... We need to raid a small village.
