《Bastion Of Heroes》Chapter 48

Splat!
It had taken Seth and Kong a bit of walking before they found something. Or something had found them instead and intent on making the boys lunch for their stomachs.
In the end, it ended up with the boys massacring them.
Right now, Kong was shaking his hand, trying to shake off the blood that had gathered from killing the monsters. What he had just killed was a Dust Rat. One of the more common monsters found outside. Dimensional energy had mutated these rats into speedy ferocious killing machines as a large group can devour their prey in a matter of seconds, leaving only their bones. Their most prominent feature was their sharp teeth in which they use to tear the flesh of their prey.
A small group had found the boys and jumped at the opportunity to make the boys into lunch. Sadly they found Kong’s fist flying at them. A rat was only the size of a person’s hand and could not defend themselves against the attack. Each time Kong swung his fist, a gory mess was made.
“Damn, can’t even make a quick buck with these rats. Totally not satisfying.” Kong said as kept on walking.
Seth had the military knife that received yesterday prepared, but it turned out unnecessary. Jacks had said they could keep the equipment they received the other day and so that what Seth did. The knife was far better than what he could gather from the net.
Plus, it was free.
“It sounds like you come out here a lot?” Seth asked as they walked.
“Ehh, time to time. Not so much since the Federation made me work for them. It’s a great way to find something worth punching,” Kong answered.
“And what is worth ‘punching’?”
“Anything worth fighting is worth punching. I tell you, you were worth punching. Most opponents who participate in the rooftop challenge aren’t worth punching. The monsters we saw yesterday? Now that was totally worth punching. “

“Are you saying you could take on the Class 5?”
“Nope! Probably kick it before I land a good blow, but that’s what makes it worth punching.”
Glad to know that Kong at least had a sense of self measure, even though his survival instinct seems off. “So what out here can you find that is worth ‘punching’”?
“Hmm Metal Eaters. Tough bastards if you find a group of them. Earth worms are good ones, but they’re real slippery. Then there the birds...”
As Seth Listened to Kong list out the monsters he had found worthwhile, he noticed the ground trembling. The vibrations were getting bigger by the second, so he asked “Uhh...Kong, is the ground shaking normal thing out here?”
“Great! If the ground shaking, it means an earthworm is nearby, "Kong shouted excitedly.
“And why is that good?”
“Cause they’re worth fighting! Now keep shouting as loudly as you can, let see if we can fish it out.” Kong started jumping up and down while clapping his hands above his head, all the while screaming vulgarities as loud as possible to draw attention to himself.
Now, he really does look like a monkey. Seth thought as prepared to draw out his knife, while ignoring Kong’s antics. Earth worms supposedly sense their environment, so the best course of action is to stay as still as possible Only Kong would think causing as much attention as possible is the best move.
The trembling continued to grow stronger. Seth could not tell where the Earthworm was coming from, all he could do was ready himself for when the Earthworm surfaces. Kong constantly yelling didn’t help either. It was when the ground stopped shaking that his instinct flared up. He immediately dove to the right, but the target of the attack was not aimed at Seth.

It was aimed at the person next to him.
“KONG!” Seth shouted as he watch a giant pink monstrosity swallow Kong. He didn’t expect that Kong would be taken out so quickly. Despite all his posturing, Seth knew Kong was somewhat experienced in fighting monsters. Seth observed the Earthworm prepared for the next attack. The only thing that diminsional energy changed was the size of the creature. Its skin was pink and smooth and only part of the actual body showing up. About 20 feet had popped up with the rest of the body still hidden in the Earth.
Seth was preparing for the Earthworm to attack when he heard laughter.
“HAHAHA THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!” A familiar voice could be heard from the head of the worm. As if it ate something disgusting, the Earthworm shook it’s head back and forth repeatedly. That was when Seth was able to catch a glimpse of Kong.
An Earthworm mouth was circular tube with several rows of sharp teeth. That made it easy to swallow the rock and creatures alike when traveling underground. Right now, there was a person with their arms spread wide apart latching on to the mouth. Kong hands were pierced by several teeth, but he stubbornly held onto the mouth. The rest of his body was inside the worm, but Seth had no doubt his feet was in similar position, digging into the inner part of the worm’s mouth.
“KONG! YOU’RE ALIVE!” Seth shouted in relief.
“COURSE I AM! TAKES A BIT MORE THEN THAT TO KILL ME! JUST WAIT THERE AS I-AH-oops."
Seth watch as the Earthworm finally dislodge the pain in it’s mouth as Kong lost his grip and slid downwards. If a worm with no facial features could look smug, it succeeded.
“KONG!” Seth brain immediately start to go hyperdrive. Since Kong wasn’t devoured in the first bite, that means there was still a chance of him surviving inside the Earthworm. If he cut the worm open quickly enough, then maybe he could still save Kong.
“Burst step!” Seth circulated and chi and perform the quickest movement technique he knew. To the visible eye, it would seem as if Seth disappeared. To the Earthworm who sense things through the ground vibration, he did. Seth had kicked off the ground like a rocket and used the recoil to dramatically increase his speed.
With his knife prepared, Seth tried to cut the Earth worm. Only to find that the Knife slide right off. He noticed a mucus on his knife which caused the attempt to be pointless.
The second Seth, the Earth worm had sensed it and faced his direction. It knew that Seth was dangerous. The human had disappeared for just a moment, try to harm it, and appeared again in a different place without the worm’s knowledge. Anything that could disappear from its senses was dangerous.
Seth could tell that his failed cut, that the Earthworm was on guard. This only made the task of killing this monster more difficult.
If Seth had any possibility of rescuing Kong, then his only chance was to go all out.
