《Bastion Of Heroes》Chapter 35

True to his word, Kong left the office immediately, leaving Seth by himself and a large amount of paperwork to go through.
Seth could only sigh in disbelief. It was beginning to feel like school all over again. Gym in the morning and textbooks reading in the afternoon. He took a few sticky notes and pens from Jack’s desk. Call it payment since Seth was lessening the work for him. He shouldn’t mind right? With his newly acquired homework, he headed to the library that was introduced to Kong and Seth earlier in the morning.

The reports turned out to be quite an interesting read.
Some reports were about monster habitats.
There were some were about logistics.
Some reports were about certain mission completion.
And then there were those that absolute gibberish.
For Seth, this task wasn’t too difficult. He always did enjoy reading. When his master had assigned him his task, he spend days at the library, trying to discover the location of the Bastion of Heroes. The young naïve child would stay all day until the librarians kicked him. He never found out anything relevant in the end after all these years.
Reading the reports weren’t that different. Certainly there unfamiliar terms, but thanks to the newly registered Federation account, he was able to find descriptions for every unknown word on the reports. The access to the database that was granted to him were surprisingly versatile. The range of information was expansive especially considering that he granted the lowest level of access. It was a bit tricky at first since this was the first time Seth was using his Federation account, but after playing around a bit he was able figure out how to navigate the database.
The reports that Seth read were quite interesting, at least for an avid reader like him. The monster reports was not just about monster being killed. There was information regarding their habitats, movements, and relocations. Predicted causality counts were also among the reports. Seth was familiar with the names of some of the monsters, but there were a few rare ones that he had never heard or before. It was hard to believe that such monstrous organisms lived so closed to the city.

Logistics reports involved the weapons used for subduing monsters. It listed the type of guns used in combat along with the number of bullets. Rifles, handguns, machine guns, grenades and even a gatling gun was listed amongst the weapons used in battle. Strangely enough the gatling gun was destroyed and almost sounded like the person who wrote the report was desperately asking for a replacement. Not that Seth was familiar with how reports go, it was just that the tone of the report seems to be begging for it to be replaced.
There were a few reports that made absolutely no sense. The contest for one of the reports went like this:
I used my partner to shoot them full of lead. BANG!BANG!BANG! Then I decided to make them go KABOOM! Then they went ARRRRGGGGHHHH! Beasties tried to be smart but I was like NUh-UH! There went more BANGS and more KABOOMS. Then I had to go SWISH! SWISH! SWISH! But they caught me so I change to SWOOSH! Then KABOOM!
Honestly the report sounded like a movie with the sound effects. That or a ten-year-old child wrote it. All the gibberish reports were all written by the same person.
Seth decided to summarize those reports with one word - incomprehensible.
Frankly Seth was surprised that he allowed to read all these reports in the first place. He had thought Jacks had threw all his leftover paperwork to him without a thought. It turned out he was wrong. Thef act that he was able to find all the information from the Federation database to help explain the terms on the reports showed that these were all low leveled reports. Nothing too serious. Maybe that was why Jacks threw them at Kong and Seth. That and Jacks didn’t feel like reading them himself.

It wasn’t until he got a message that on his phone did Seth realize that time had flew by and it was almost evening. The message was from Jacks and it said “ Still there kid? Leave the rest in my office and come in at 7 tomorrow morning.”
The message startled Seth as soon as he read it. How in the world did Jacks know where he was? Was there cameras in the room or was he tracking him through some method he didn’t know about? Immediately Seth took a quick look around to see if Jacks was in the library, but couldn’t find him. He decided to just give up and do as he was told.
There was still half the pile of reports that were left unread, majority of Seth time was used to look up the unfamiliar terms used in the reports. For a first day, it wasn’t bad, when all things considered. Seth didn’t know what to expect, but he didn’t think he would be dumped with a pile of paperwork in the end. There was also the running part, Jacks never made it clear how they were being measured. He just told Seth and Kong to start running and scout would be able to measure their capabilities. Seth had to admit he was curious what level he and Kong was considered at. All in all there was one thought in Seth’s mind as he left the Federation building.
What would the next day bring?

The War Wolves
If you’re good at something, never do it for free. That’s what Ludgar’s uncle taught him. Sellswording isn’t the most glamorous life, but it pays well if you’re good at it. Interesting as well, if you ignore the very probable possibility of a swift, sticky end at the hands of pointy things. When the mercenary lifestyle grows incompatible with the Kingdom of Evandis, he and his merry band of misfits set off west to seek those with a better proclivity for warfare and with much deeper pockets. At his side: a wandering barbarian who teeters on the edge of savagery, a girl who would have a heart of gold if she didn’t pawn it off to the nearest fence, a wannabe knight who is absolutely overcompensating for something, and the last person in the universe who should be anywhere close to magic. But, as most mercenaries find, the right decisions are quite an expensive luxury, and the wrong ones happen to pay very well. Then again, what are the value of morals to a hungry wolf?
