《Gunslinger Moon》Chapter 15

The next day we were led out from the prison. I and Luta were being taken to another location at the Secret Organization hideout, by the same men who brought us here.
"Where are you taking us?" I asked the guard who held onto me. "Where is Gustav? Did you hurt him? If you did, I will never forgive you!"
He ignored me and continued walking while saying nothing. So I followed him silently, Luta following behind me. We walked until we reached a small room which seemed to be a waiting area or something similar. There was only one chair placed in front of a desk, and two chairs near the wall opposite to each other. One of those was occupied by a man sitting down, reading a newspaper. Another man stood nearby holding a gun pointed at both our heads. Both of these people were dressed in black suits and wore masks covering most of their faces. They didn't look friendly at all. In fact, they looked very intimidating.
One of the man looked at us and just nodded towards the door. Without asking, he opened the door and gestured for us to follow him. His partner took aim at us and waited outside the door. Once we stepped through the doorway, we found ourselves standing in a bigger room from the one before. But, what caught my attention first was something else.
"Gustav! You are safe! Thank goodness." I saw Gustav standing there, safe and sound. He looked at us with a peculiar gaze that made me uneasy for some reason. "What happened? Where have you been? Did they hurt you?"
His eyes widened when he heard me speak. For some odd reason, his face suddenly became serious. I looked around the room. Lilith, Angelika and that pervert were also there. The whole situation made me feel uncomfortable.
But then, I felt a sudden chill running up and down my spine. Something wasn't quite right about this.
As if sensing my unease, Gustav turned towards me. "Moon, listen closely now. Do not say or do anything unnecessary. Just do exactly what you're told. Understand?"
"What? What are you..."
"Moon! Be careful, that bastard is..." I heard Luta scream from behind me as I tried to keep up with what Gustav said. My heart skipped a beat and my breath quickened. Why would Gustav say something like this?!
Gustav looked at Luta with his cold gaze.
"Lufas Maphaahl. You gave us quite the trouble."
"Tch, so you were playing with us after all," Luta muttered under her breath. He glared at Gustav.
"You really should know better than to mess with us. Especially since it seems you've already caused a lot of problems for yourself. How long has it been now?"
"A few years, maybe."
"What? What is going on? Gustav, please don't joke around like this!" I exclaimed.
"Oh no, Moon...this isn't a game." Gustav told me.
"You are quite the stupid kid, aren't you?" Angelika said with a bemused expression on her face. She sounded rather amused.
"What do you think is happening right now? This is reality. The kind and easygoing Gustav you knew, is fake, a bogus persona created to get close to you. He is your enemy. Just like us. Get it to your small brain already," Angelika explained with an exasperated tone. Her voice sent shivers down my spine.
"N-no way! Gustav! Please, tell me that she is lying! Please! That must be another joke, right?!" I asked with a pleading look on my face.

Gustav just looked at me with his cold eyes. Then he looked at Luta again, ignoring my words completely.
"If you hurt Moon in any way, I will kill you if that's the last thing I will do before dying." Luta growled at Gustav.
"Hahaha! Good one!" Gustav laughed out loud. His laughter echoed through the entire mansion.
"Shut up. I am not joking."
"Don't worry. My aim is you, Lufas Maphaahl. Not him."
The two men stared each other down. There was no sign of fear or nervousness in either side. They both stood there with calm expressions.
Angelika, who was observing the scene from afar, shook her head with a sigh.
"This is getting ridiculous. Let's just kill them and be done with it," she mumbled under her breath. "Hyah, Hyah! You can't do that. Moon is going to become my wife soon." the pervert said with his hand placed firmly over his mouth, licking his finger with delight.
"So that's it. It's time to die, Lufas Maphaahl."
Gustav aimed at Luta with his gun. But, before he could pull the trigger, I jumped between them.
"Please don't! We're friends, remember?! Please, don't do this, Gustav!" I started crying, as my emotions got the best of me.
But Gustav didn't seem to care about my plea. He pulled back the hammer on his revolver and pointed it directly at me.
"Stand down, Moon. I don't really want to kill you, but I will if I have to," Gustav threatened.
"N-No way! Sniffle... sniffle..." I cried while sobbing uncontrollably.
"Why does things have to be that way? Why can't we just get along with each other?" I pleaded with Gustav.
"The world doesn't work like that, Moon. Thinks won't go the way you want just because you wish for it. Things are just how they are."
Gustav's reply made me cry even harder. Tears streamed down my cheeks, leaving wet trails on my skin.
"I... I... I still don't like that."
I started walking slowly towards Gustav.
"What are you doing, Moon? Get out of the way, or I will kill you. Now move!" Gustav yelled with anger in his voice.
"I won't!"
I walked closer to Gustav without hesitation.
"You think I won't shoot you? Don't be mistaken, I will kill you without a shred of doubt. I don't care about you."
"You promised you would protect me." I replied with tears streaming down my face.
"Moon, stop acting stupidly. Stop being stubborn and listen to what I say."
"You told me you would treat me to a grand feast. I was really looking forward to it. Sniffle... Sniffle..." I continued to sob.
"I was lying to you, Moon. I never intended to give you anything special. You were only bait to lure in Lufas. And now that I've succeeded, I don't feel like spending any more effort on you. So please just stand down already."
I was just a step away from Gustav. I looked up into his eyes. His cold expression was enough to make me shiver in terror. The look alone sent chills through my spine. But...
"I admired you, sniffle... I thought you were cool and dependable, I wanted to be just like you. Sniffle... Please, don't tell me that all those things were just lies. Our date, you were showing me how to shoot my gun, everything. All of it was fake?" My tearful eyes stared deep into his.
"Yes. Everything. I was using you to draw out Lufas Maphaahl."

His words hurt me deeply. But I didn't weaver.
"Then way? Why didn't you kill me yet?! I'm standing right beside you!"
"You think I won't? Don't be stupid, Moon!"
"Then kill me! Kill me and all this!" I screamed in tears as I grabbed Gustav's gun and put the barrel against my forehead. "If you're going to do it, then just DO IT!! Sniffle..."
I don't even know what I was saying any more. I just knew I needed to stop this. No matter what, I couldn't let him do it. I... I... I realized that I still admired him, no matter what. Even though he'd said all those words to me. Maybe I liked him, I didn't know. That's why I refused to back down.
"Fine, then. I'll just have to kill you first."
"Moon!" I heard Luta's words, but they sounded like he was far away.
With that, Gustav put his finger on the trigger. I closed my eyes tightly. But the sound of the gunshot didn't come. Instead, there was a sound of laughter.
"Hahaha. You are such a sinful one, Moon. To think that you could change my mind in such a moment." Gustav laughed. "Such a sinful and greedy boy you are, Moon. Oh, if only you knew how much trouble you caused me..."
"Ehh?"
I asked stupidly. I open my eyes and looked at Gustav. He was smiling at me. Then, he put his other hand on my waist and pulled me close. I felt something warm touch my cheek.
"What...? What are you doing?!"
"Prepare yourself, we are getting out of here." I felt Gustav's warm breath on my earlobe.
He kissed me gently on the lips before pulling me behind him.
Then, he aimed his gun at Angelika.
"What are you doing, 'Leader'? This isn't part of our plan," she said. She wasn't panicking, but instead seemed quite calm.
Gustav smirked at her. "I'm sorry Angelika, but it seems I will be betraying you guys after all."
Angelika looked at him with cold eyes. "Why would you do that? We've been working together up until now. Don't tell me, it's because of that dumb kid."
"Well, that's exactly why." Gustav smiled at her.
"Well, I don't really care, even if I have to kill you. As long as I get the money, I don't give a damn about anything else," Angelika said.
She raised her gun at Gustav.
"Hyah, Hyah! We are killing 'Leader'? I always wanted to do this since the beginning!" the pervert yelled. He drew his blade and pointed it at Gustav.
"A-aren't you their leader, Gustav? Why are they..." I asked in confusion.
Gustav sighed. "No, I am not their leader, nor did I ever claim myself as one. They just gave me such a nickname. Anyway, prepare yourself Moon, it's going to get ugly again."
"O-okay."
Gustav looked at Luta pointedly, as if they were conversing without using words. Then he turned back towards me and smiled. "It's time to get out of this."
"Huh?" I blinked at him.
"Lilith!" Gustav screamed.
"Yes brother." Lilith replied calmly.
Then, Gustav and Lilith started shooting at the other secret organization members, while Luta broke free from his shackles and started attacking the enemies with his fists. The group of men tried to stop him by hitting him with their guns, but they weren't able to hold him back.
"Wha?! Wha?! Hey, what's going on here!?" I shouted with panic.
The situation suddenly changed into chaos when the two groups clashed against each other. There were people falling on the ground left and right.
In the end, both Angelika and the pervert died, together with a lot of the secret organization members. But... there were still a few more enemies standing around.
"Hey! Stop fighting already!" I ordered.
Both sides stopped moving immediately. Everyone was staring at us. Even though everyone knew who I was, no one dared to speak to me directly. Instead, they only spoke through gestures or signs.
"Can we just go? Please, no more bloodshed," I begged.
Everyone nodded silently.
After a short pause, Lufas came forward and hugged me tightly.
"Thank goodness. Thank god. You're safe, Moon."
I didn't know how to respond. I simply stared blankly at him.
"Oh dear, let's hurry out before they change their minds." Gustav added.
The four of us: Me, Luta, Gustav and Lilith left the place quickly.

After leaving the hideout, I sighed. This whole thing has become way too complicated.
"What should we do next?" I asked. "What about the organization?"
"That's right." Luta said. "How about you tell us, you bastard."
"Hahaha, please don't look at me like that. Well, I think the organization will disband soon. After losing their core members, most of them probably lost interest in continuing. In fact, I have been thinking of doing the same for quite some time now. Right, Lilith?"
"Do whatever you won't brother, I don't really care either way." Lilith shrugged.
"Brother?" I asked with confusion.
"Oh, that's right. I guess I never told you. This Lilith, here, is my little sister."
"Wait, what?!" I exclaimed. "So you were siblings all along!? Why did you keep it a secret!?"
"Well, because..." Gustav scratched his head awkwardly. "It wasn't really all that important, after all."
"So, what are we going to do now?" I asked with wonder.
"Hahaha, I have no idea. How about you tell us, Moon. What do you want to do?" Gustav asked me.
Lufas looked at me curiously as well. While Lilith just did her own thing.
"Me? Nothing much, actually." I replied. "Just living life normally. Oh, right! I want to buy a house! That's why I even went on such an adventure, after all. I wanted to gather enough money to buy myself a nice home."
"Aww, that's great." Gustav smiled happily.
"Sigh, I guess it's just like you, Moon. But I think it's not that bad." Lufas said while smiling.
"It's good, right?! But, but..." I hesitated. I felt embarrassed to say the next words. "...but...It would be even better if both of you could come with me."
I grabbed both of their hands with my own two hands and held them tight. Then I looked at the two men with embarrassment written across my face.
Both of them were staring at me blankly.
""Y-You mean...? Both of us?"" They finally said.
"Yes!" I nodded enthusiastically. "If possible, I'd love for both of you to live together with me."
They seemed surprised by my sudden request.
"Moon, you..." Luta said.
"Hahaha. Such a greedy boy you are, Moon. But I like that about you too." Gustav said.
I blushed deeply and kissed them on their lips with affection. I giggled as they embraced me tightly. It felt warm and safe. Just how I liked it.

Esper: Search for Power
Dan Martin has a good life. He's respected at his job, and enjoys his work. He is close to his family, and they love and support him. With engaging hobbies, relative financial security, and freedom to learn and pursue his interests, Dan is happy. So it's not particularly welcome when he's selected by an inscrutable and seemingly omnipotent System as a test subject. The downsides: All of this is insane and by any rational analysis he's gonna die. The upsides: Super powers, a cure for a physical disability that had limited him, and above all, so very much to learn (for as long as he can avoid dying). I am very much a beginner as an author, and any feedback or suggestions on how to improve would be deeply appreciated. Chapter releases should be daily for the first two weeks and sporadic after that as I use up my buffer. Please consider this work as a rough draft subject to revision and/or retcon. It is not only my first attempt at original story telling, but at world building and RPG style system design. The latter has been very difficult, even drawing on the brilliant work of many RPGs and LitRPGs for inspiration. Thank you to any willing to give a new story and a new writer a try!
