《LEUR: The Unsung Tales》Chapter 100: Remnant Takes Torley

The hidden blade slides deeper between the devilkin's ribs, until my wrist connects with his chest. His defiant face drains of life and color, eyes going dull before I jerk the weapon free of his innards, spraying myself with the blood of the poor soul.

Turning my gaze upon the human, the one named Asher, I ready myself for another attack. One foot pushes back, preparing to leap in her direction. Behind me, a trail of destruction, several bodies laying strewn about in my wake. "A pity. I'm through asking, Asher. And you have nobody else to save you."

Asher, a thin woman with half her head shaved, the other half a bright pink coif, grips a long spear. She raises a shield, holding the spear over a small section cut out of it.

"You're wrong!" The human shouts, the fear clear as crystal in her voice. "I've got him!" She points up, and my vision is clouded by a shadow overhead. I barely have time to leap aside as the beast lands between us.

Black wings unfurl, blowing away the dust that kicked up from its landing. Horns on either side of its scaled head curl inward, likening its face to a dark skinned demon. A long tail slams upon the ground in a threatening gesture. The black scales shimmer in the light of the moon. The creature's lips peel back in a snarl, sharp teeth dripping with acidic bile. The dragon is not yet an adult judging by its size, but that does not make it any less formidable a foe. I can't help but to grin wide.

"I must admit, my information network did not mention this. How intriguing. I should thank you."

"You'll thank me when you're being melted alive. Urthodas! Kill this freak!" Asher backs up as the dragon's jaw parts, the acrid smell of decay boiling out from inside.

With a shake of my head, I reach a hand out. "Urthodas is your name, hm? Kill your former master." The creature's body seizes up, his every muscle tensing and releasing as his mind attempts in vain to rebel. But I will not be denied. There is no resistance. A green light fills the dragon's eyes.

"Urthodas, what are you waiting for?!" The human shouts, before the beast's head rounds upon her. In a blast of bubbling acid, Asher's skin and muscle liquifies and sloughs off, leaving a skeleton that stands for but a few moments before collapsing in a heap.

"Thank you, Asher, for gifting me this wondrous gift." I close my eyes, centering my mind. "Bring everyone in. We're clear." My voice echoes in my head, before Rina responds in my mind.

"Roger that. We'll be there soon. Hope you rolled out the red carpet for us!"

My eyes shift to the trail of bodies, chuckling softly. There is indeed a red carpet. "Come, Urthodas. We're going to carve a home out of this forest." My fingers grace the dragon's chin, and a smile breaks out across my steel face.

I entered this world to destroy the enemies of my people. They are gone now, and I am all that remains. A remnant of a bygone era. I was dug up, reassembled, and educated about the world I now find myself in. It is no longer nations that are the enemy, it is the people within them. Those who commit atrocities on their fellows, and those who see these deeds and do nothing to stop them. In a world where people are brutalized for being different, for being 'wrong' because of their blood, there can be only one recourse. Retribution. Revolution! We will march upon the world with the fury of steel and the crash of thunder. Today, we make war on those who would see the downtrodden stamped underfoot. Today...

I lift the skull of the former Asher from the ground, peering into the black cavities where eyes once sat. "Today we show the world the rage of the broken."
