《The fisher and the beast (Complete)》CH8: Shut up and take my energy!

"She's finally lost it." an sarcastic female voice was heard saying.

"Poor girl." a male voice replied, the pity in his voice obvious but it was without a trace of surprise.

"Ah yup. You know, I've always thought she would have gone bonkers waaaay earlier. She never really took on the whole magic and monsters stuff very well. Remember those creepy face huggers giant bug thingies? We survived but I thought that, there, Then. Thought she would be mentally gone then. But nope. So I've gotta say I underestimated her mental strength by a bit. Wondered what was the final straw though?" a loud barrage of words was spewed out from a petite lady, contrasting her timid looks with her almost playful attitude.

An old man stood at the side giving a disapproving glare at the gossiping bunch.

Ana, Ryu, Sheila and Zagan were in close proximity and looking at and talking about Jane.

"Maybe it was the evil giant undead lord of doom? We have to fight them sooner or later, right?" Ryu replied to Ana, shrugging as he simply spoke the first thing to come to his mind. “Maybe she realized the whole quest is kinda impossible if we have to fight evil giants…”

"Slay the undead and earn fame and fortune! For it is thy destiny! But there is no save and load button! And clothes get itchy if you don't wash em! And the undead reaaalllyyy smells..." Ana raised her scepter in the air and shouted in a mocking tone, trying to roleplay as a pompous narrator in a computer game. Which to her pleasure did earn a chuckle from Ryu.

"Nah. The whole undead thing. Pshh all I have to do is snap my finger..." Sheila did as she said while one hand was on her waist, summoning a floating wisp of flame. "... and the undead is barbecue. Bet it's the view of an almost naked fat man floating up into the sky. I almost thought I was crazy myself. Did you notice his thongs had a fluffy tailed attached to his bum?" The question caused groans from the rest.

Ryu slapped his own face to lessen his cringe. He always knew Glauc was a sexually perverse man but they always did their nightly deeds in separate rooms and never suspected him of having such weird hobbies. Being friends with such a sexual deviant was rather embarrassing.

The person in their original topic, Jane, was standing by the river. She was shouting at her own reflection in the water and if one looked from afar, it really looked like her mind finally broke and she was hysterically shouting to her own reflection.

Zagan left the gossiping bunch, slightly disgusted at their nonchalant attitude towards their own friend's breakdown, and also at the image of the floating Glauc. Mostly at the image of Glauc, and to rid the image off his mind he decided to trot off towards Jane and calm her down. Which was a moment too late as he unwittingly heard the group discussing on how the tail was attached to Glauc. He actually shivered at their descriptions.

He was halfway towards Jane when he paused and actually retreated a step back.

Jane looked back and stared at Zagan, wrath smouldering in her eyes. Zagan actually had the image of a little girl throwing a tantrum, except said girl had an ominous towering column of black water growing behind her.

The river's content grew on the surface and formed the image of the top half of a woman over ten meters tall. The liquid apparition had tentacles for arms and glowing red eyes, which stared at Zagan. She pointed her left tentacle at Zagan and it expanded into a torrent of liquid that engulfed Zagan. The liquid flowed back into her and reformed into a tentacle, this time with Zagan in her grasp.

Her jagged jaws opened wide in anger and she screeched out. "You! What did your mistress do? Tell me everything!"

Ana, Ryu and Sheila were stupefied at the scene. Then Jane muttered something to the watery apparition while pointing at the three. The watery apparition used her other tentacle to form another torrent of water that washed over the three before they could even turn to escape.

***

All of them remembered drowning a horrible death before waking up underwater, floating without a direction. Somehow they could still breathe in the liquid environment.

"Good. You're finally awake." Jane was sitting on a marble throne that floated in the water. As if gravity did not exist in this space. "I hate to rush this but our plans have gone a little sideways..." She crossed her arms and leaned back on the throne like royalty.

Ryu was the first to fully awake and half belched out his question, surprised his speech did not form any bubbles in the underwater location. "Our plan?"

The water turned blood red and vibrated, shaking Ryu's body like he was using a jackhammer. "Yes. Me and my daughter's plan. Do you know how hard it was for me to kill Entropy?"

"Wait... What... Entropy. I thought he committed suicide?" a pale looking Zagan muttered.

"With a little nudge from yours truly..." a silhouette of a woman emerged from nothing, her body seemingly composed of a black space studded with stars and universes. Nunu gracefully bowed to boast of her accomplishment.

In the presence of a primordial law, and in her domain no less, Zagan lost all of his energy and slumped down in defeat. "But for what purpose would you kill him?"

Nunu rested her face on one arm and coyly replied, "Not what. Who."

Zagan opened his mouth but paused halfway when he saw Jane. A look of realization filled him and he uttered a word "Min."

Jane started a slow clap as Zagan finally figured out who she was. She used her thumb to point to herself "You thought I was a clueless earthling but it was me, Dio! Uh.. I meant Min! I did not know why I said that..."

Nunu floated to Min and hugged her. "Now dear, your mind is still fragmented, but we can't rejoin you just yet. Not until you have enough primordial energy to ascend... We have to be patient. Oh you poor thing..."

"Ascend? That's your plan? Ascending a god to a primordial law? I thought that was impossible!" Zagan reflexively shouted.

"With the energy of a dead primordial law? And a little time to refine it... Why not?" Nunu confidently replied.

Ana, Sheila and Ryu looked at each other, and Sheila was the first to ask. "So... Why are we here?"

***

"Blub blub blub... Blub blub blub..."

"Uhh Ryu, what are you doing?" Sheila shot him a look of annoyance.

"I'm being a fish. Since we're underwater and all that. Blub blub blub blub..." Ryu replied in a noncommittal way and swayed his body more like a slithering snake than a fish. But it was still a rather effective way to swim around their current cubed enclosure. He swam in a roundabout path as straying too far will cause him to hit some kind of invisible barrier.

Ana copied what he was doing and swam beside him. "Blub blub blub. Heehee this is fun! Anyways any of you guys ever suspected Jane of being Min? Or part of Min or something."

To the surprise of the two 'fishes', Sheila also copied them and acted like a fish, albeit with a bored face. "Blub. I don't think anyone did, even the other gods. You heard their plan. They were gonna use the energy of some dead whatchamacallit... Super god or something..."

"Primordial Law." Ana helped. "Nunu is one. Oh! Blub blub blub. And she was powerful enough to create Nugaia. At least the environments. How did she describe Nugaia again? A refining system?"

Ryu nodded his head sagely. He might not have been smart but for some reason he was enraptured with the explanation Nunu and Min had provided them. Gods and Primordials love to monologue for some reason. "Yep. Blub blub blub. Infect a soul with a lil modified primordial energy.

When the soul's physical body dies and the soul returns to the afterworld, hopefully the energy is further weakened cause there is no divine force force in the mortal plane? Or very little of it.

Divine force is Primordial energy food i guess? Didn't Glauc use divine energy for his skills?"

"Yep. He did. It's mana for gods i guess? Might be oversimplifying that..." Sheila added, being the expert about mana amongst the three, not that she had a clue what mana even is. "Anyway they were hoping the primordial energy was starved or weakened enough that it could be absorbed by Min i think? Except that it backfired and ended up corrupting the part of Min in charge of souls. Leaving bunny Min, the part split in heaven to distract the other gods in heaven, in charge of the domain of life."

Ana lit up. "I kinda like bunny Min. I mean, Jane Min is a bitch, and I've never seen Soul Min, but Bunny Min is kinda cute and fluffy at least. Kinda weird we're talking about three persons but they used to one. Huh."

"Even if she might be responsible for bringing us to Nugaia?" Sheila raised an eyebrow.

"Nah... That's totally Jane Min's fault. She magicked her way to the interview and teleported the whole room to that forest." Ana reaffirmed her belief. "Oh yeah, blub blub blub."

Ryu thought aloud "But Bunny Min kinda answered the prayer of a random girl to save her father. Blub blub blub.

Except that the father was already dead. Blub blub.

Min revived the girl's father by stuffing his cursed soul back in his body, causing the whole undead mess. I'm quite amazed at her ability to... escalate things. Blub."

All nodded at his appraisal of Bunny Min.

Sheila shrugged "She's keeping Nunu busy at the very least. Jane Min can't interact with her in case they get merged back before she absorbed enough primordial energy, and Bunny Min doesn't want to use her powers to capture Glauc cause he brought her some fishes or something?"

"It's a really weird internal argument if you think about it..." Ana mused. "At least Bunny Min got all the powers. Told ya I like her. imagine if Jane Min took control instead..."

***

Currently 'Jane Min' was pulling her hair in frustration. The original Min had split herself into three parts during the creation of Nugaia.

One, her rational part, to manage the souls leaving and entering the mortal plane, infecting and extracting primordial energy as they go along.

The second, her emotional part, was put in heaven, a foolish version to distract and gain the sympathy of the other gods, so that they would not discover and interfere with the plans.

And then there was her. The memory part, Jane Min. Her responsibility was actually to spy on Earth and their gods. She was never supposed to enter Nugaia until Soul Min had acquired enough primordial energy to ascend into a Primordial Law. Then they would merge together as the Primordial Law of All Life and Souls.

Somehow the plan had gone haywire with the primordial energy unable to be tamed despite the lack of divine energy in the mortal plane. Soul Min slowly got more and more tired until she made a mistake and got corrupted by the primordial energy herself.

Fearing the corruption of all her domains, she immediately sent it all to Bunny Min, who in her naivety abused her newfound powers in no time at all. Causing disasters all over the mortal plane such as giving mice a tenfold increase in their birth rate or accelerating a plant's growth rate that it devoured entire cities.

But of course, Jane Min was truly having a headache about the undead. The primordial energy had mutated into a type that fed on souls.

To start with, Min wasn't the original creator of the primordial energy. Other gods were responsible for creating and extracting this energy from the dead body of ‘Entropy’. They fashioned that energy into a curse to infect all souls, giving the souls a limited lifespan so that there will be no new gods created to compete with them.

Nunu, her mother, was the one to hint to Min that the energy might be used to help her ascend from godhood.

Thus, they hatched a plan to create a secret universe that will refine the primordial energy into a useful form.

They had to convince other gods and more importantly, bring their worshippers to 'escape' to Nugaia, away from the so called tyranny. The primordial energy had been created to infect souls and thus Nunu simply used the souls of mortals to act as carriers or containers.

Min herself had acted as though she was sacrificing herself to save all the souls of the worshippers by merging with them and absorbing their 'curse'. She did this so all the other life based gods would gift her their domains in gratitude and further increase her powers.

The plan worked. At least until Soul Min got corrupted. Then it all when downhill.

The undead. A soul infected with a kind of primordial energy that fed on the soul itself. Even gods would be tainted by it and none could resist it.

Except one.

Glauc.

[A tale of past]

Once upon a time. Actually, before time even existed. There was nothing.

And then, there was something. That something grew and grew until it became everything, it called itself 'the universe’.

The universe felt that it still needed to grow more and improve itself and thus it gave birth to souls. They were to assist it in implementing some of its ideas.

The souls helped the universe create suns and planets and all sorts of new information popped up into existence.

After a while, some of the souls had their own differing ideas on how the universe should be like. They disagreed with some of the universe’s ideas and instead brought changes more to their liking.

As time passed, more and more souls’ individuality eventually overcome their obedience towards the universe.

The universe was displeased by the rebellious children and took away their powers.

Without their powers, most of the souls became helpless.

In an act of desperation, they banded together and sacrificed parts of themselves to form a new source of power. They called this power ‘divine force’. However, there was not enough divine force to be used by all the souls.

Some of the souls selfishly tricked the rest and took all of the divine force for themselves. The thieves began to call themselves gods.

The gods brought the remainder of the powerless souls to a planet.

A planet they called Earth.

After a while, the divine force amplified the gods’ obsession and it overtook their minds. They began creating once again without paying attention to anything else.

And thus were mountains and rivers and clouds and all sorts of other wonders created.

The souls that the gods stole from had no divine force and powerlessly watched the gods obsess over their own creation while they were left behind. In a final act of petty anger they banded together and destroyed themselves.

Once the souls were destroyed, the source of the divine force began to run out. The gods slowly lost their powers once again.

They mourned their loss for days and was finally heard by the universe.

Feeling pity for its own wayward children, the universe sent three of its more obedient souls to help their punished siblings. These three never had their power stripped in the very beginning.

Two of them was to help find a solution to the god’s sorrow and the third was sent as a failsafe, to make sure that none of them would be influenced by the gods and become rebellious children themselves. The universe had learnt to be suspicious of its own children.

The first two were known as Entropy and Chaos, and the third, Watcher.

Entropy and Chaos collected the remnants of the souls that had destroyed themselves and recombined it to form a new whole soul once again. This soul would be in charge of making sure that the gods had enough power to sustain themselves.

This soul was called Min. And she created life from parts of herself.

She was supposed to create just enough living beings to sustain the gods but soon overdid herself. From her, life was given the ability to self propagate.

Over time the gods would have an abundance of divine force and try to change the universe once again.

Watcher noticed this and told the universe of it and thus Min’s power was also stripped. She had done something the universe disagreed with.

Chaos, who had now grown close to Min, was distraught, and decided to sacrifice part of her power to Min. However, she was stopped by Watcher, who felt guilty.

Watcher then gave up half her power to change Min’s creation, so that they would sustain her just by existing. As long as living things exist, Min would have a source of power. The other half of her power, she used so that the universe would not discover what had happened.

Of course, even with the Watcher's interference, the universe still found out. Seeing Watcher's self sacrifice, it finally realized that all souls would sooner or later form it's own individuality. It gave the souls a choice. “Obey me and obtain the ability to change anything with a mere thought or follow your own desire, but no powers shall I provide.”

The choice was made. Freedom over power.

Time passed, old gods fought and died and were replaced by younger ones. Life thrived and spread around the world. And most forgot the past.

On the moon, Luna was telling Glauc the story of how everything came to be.

“You see. That's why most gods are unable to become a primordial law! Primordial energy could only be used if it aligns with the universe’s desires. If a god used it, it would reject the god’s desire, in a pretty violent manner no less!”

“So the primordial energy in me. Its rejecting the divine force somehow? How do I get rid of it?” Glauc did not pay much attention to the story. It was pretty nonsensical. He actually even agreed to the god’s side in this story. The universe seemed like a control freak with too much time on his hands...

Luna answered through gritted teeth “Primordial energy is good stuff! With divine force, the things you can create is limited to Earth and maybe a little bit further. Mars maybe? With primordial energy you can change the universe itself!”

“Eh?” Glauc shrugged. “Divine force is good enough for me…no need to be over ambitious...”

The two continued arguing for a long time...

***

Maat was secretly following a valkyrie. Every fibre of her being was resisting the urge to let herself be known. Some of her domains were related to truth and secretly stalking someone caused her domains to be damaged. But sometimes you have to lie to get the truth and she persevered…

Soon, she discovered it. Valhalla. A hidden pocket dimension in the mortal plane of northen Nugaia. And when she entered she was shocked. The undead were being imprisoned inside but they were soon about to break out! She had to do something! There was no way she was going to let them escape and cause havoc amongst the mortals! She started smiting them to the horrors of the nearby valkyries and ehinjars...

***

“WHAT!?” Jane was in full blown panic. Maat! For some reason she had found out about Valhalla. Not only that, she started slaying the undead with her powers…

“Mom! Hurry! Bring me to Valhalla! That crazy bitch is ruining our plans!”

Jane was transported from a watery dimension into a warzone. To be more accurate, it was the aftermath of a warzone. On one side, Valkyries lined against the walls and looked blankly at the corpses of their enemies.

Maat stood amongst the littered carcases and stood proudly, staring in defiance at Jane. “Who are you? Why did Nunu send you here?” She paused a while, then widened her eyes. “You! You're Min! Why did… no… more importantly… why were you keeping the undead here? Do you realize what would have happened if they had escaped? Fortunately, I discovered them and have smote them from existence!”

Jane looked at the battlefield in horror. Then, everyone felt it. The pieces of meat from the dead began to shiver, then slowly crawled towards each other. Their movements became faster and faster and they all started to converge on a single point. Flesh piled on flesh and the mound started growing.

By this point Maat had retreated to Jane and in a soft and trembling voice, asked her “What's going on. Why are the flesh merging? I’ve destroyed both body and soul of the undead!”

Jane gave her a pissed off look, then mentioned to her mother to get rid of Maat.

Nunu touched Maat on the shoulders and absorbed her into heaven. She looked at the growing pile of flesh and sighed. “My dear~ it seems we've run out of options. You're going to have to absorb the primordial energy before it's been refined.”

“Mom, that's impossible. Even absorbing a sliver of starved primordial energy from a single soul takes all of my willpower. The one third of me in charge of souls is already corrupted, I don't wish to make it worse...” Jane looked distraught. All of their meticulous plans to turn her into a primordial law was slowly being ruined. Not only that, the undead were now being fed by Maat’s divine force and growing stronger. She had to figure out a way to contain it before it infected all living things. Then, her existence would truly be in danger.

“There is a way…” Nunu teared up. She was always patient and was fine with Min staying as a god for longer as long as the chance of success was higher. Now, time was not on her side. The mound of flesh had grown into a mountain and she could feel the primordial energy inside it awakening. She remenicinced about a long distant past. About something her sister had done. “Guess it's my turn…”

Nunu ripped half of herself apart. It was as much a physical act as it was a mental one. One of the halves dispersed into a white mist and flew towards the undead mound. Bright flashes of purple lightning began flashing from inside the mound.

The other half fell on her knees. She had reformed into a flaming wisp but the flames were dimmer than what Min remembered. “I've used part of myself to suppress the primordial energy. It should now be easier for you to absorb. You should rejoin your three parts now… do it… and then take in the primordial energy… do it quick… ”

What Nunu had done was sacrifice part of herself. It was an act with permanent consequences. All to give Min a chance to ascend…

She then summoned the other two parts of Min, bunny Min and Soul Min. With Jane, the three parts combined. There was a bright flash of light. Then, a female avatar wearing a feather crown and weilding a golden flail took form. She wore a scarlet red robe that draped from her shoulders down to her knees. Her blond hair and green irises stood out from her rosy skin.

She started coughing out blood. The corruption had spread too far in her soul. Giving one last thankful look at her mother, the reformed Min flickered to the undead mound and shoved both her hands into the flesh. With the help of half of Nunu’s essence, she was able to slowly get the energy under control.

Until a rusted sword stabbed through her heart…

***

A portal formed and three individuals leisurely walked out.

“No!” Nunu wailed. She dashed towards Min to aid her but was blocked by a robed figure. It swung its scythe at her and she dodged and retreated to get a look at the assailant. Beneath the robed figure was a skeleton.

“Death! How did you get here?!?”

Flames flickered inside his eye sockets as Death adopted a defensive posture with his scythe. He gave a nonchalant shrug and replied with a hollow voice. “wE haVe OuR wAys…”

The rusted blade in Min began to melt into a yellowish goo and actually started to speak. “Hey there Min. You might not know who I am but I am a big fan of you! I'm a new god called Pestilence. Pleased to make your acquaintance!” The yellow goo started trying to enter Min through her wound but Min fought back. She used her divine force to expel out Pestilence but her healing was actually slow despite her having domain of life. Pestilence began speaking in a mocking tone. “Trying to get rid of me? Not that easy… you see… I have a similar domain to you… It's just that I focus on the smaller living things…”

Min looked at the yellow goo with mild annoyance. “So what if you have a similar domain? I simply have to use more divine force. We'll see how well you do then…”

Just as she said that, the lady that had stabbed her with Pestilence leaned over and gave her a kiss. The lady had pale wrinkled skin with black lipstick and eyelashes. She wore a yellowing tattered robe that showed off parts of her malnourished ribs and near non-existent waistline. Min started to feel her divine power drain away.

Behind the one that kissed Min, a muscular female warrior with a leather gladiator skirt and a metal embossed right shoulder plate crossed her arms. She looked at Min in the eyes and smirked. “More divine force? In the presence of Famine? Hah!”

She broke eye contact with Min and looked at Nunu. “Anyway, took you long enough. Thanks for preparing the primordial energy for me! I'll finally become the primordial law of war and fight the universe! Then I shall conquer everything!”

War then plunged both her hands into the undead mound. She started to fight with Min over control of the primordial energy in the undead.

Nunu tried to pull away Famine from Min but was sliced in half by death. She reformed and pointed at him. “You think you can kill me? The arrogance! I still have half my might and even death can never kill chaos!”

“i kNow. i JuST hAvE to DelaY You…” Death shrugged once again.

Nunu looked at him in surprise and then anxiously glanced at Min. She tried to interfere but was cut by Death again and again. In her weakened state, she was unable to transport any gods from heaven to her body and then to the battlefield to assist her. Not to mention she did not know of any gods that would willingly help her.

In her desperation she asked for help from an unlikely group. The three still inside her body: Ryu, Ana and Sheila.

The three were instantly teleported into the battlefield.

Death, War, Pestilence and Famine looked at the three young souls and began laughing. War especially mocked Nunu vocally. “ You're gonna use those young souls to stop us? Haha! Good one!”

However, that moment of distraction was enough for one individual who had been watching everything to take advantage. An individual who was not in heaven, a place that required crossing the watery abyss to enter the mortal realm. She was on the moon, still part of the mortal realm.

Luna grabbed Glauc who was oblivious to everything and was actually concentrating on a magazine and tossed him towards a portal she opened. The exit of the portal was, of course, towards the mound of undead.

The lapse of judgement from the appearance of Ryu and the rest was enough of an opportunity for Luna to toss Glauc fully into the mound. Everyone was too distracted and let it happen.

The primordial energy inside the undead began to crackle and enter into the very confused Glauc and his face soon twisted in agony as the energy forced their way into him.

“What the fuck! Argh! Purple shit! Again! The pain!!!”

Luna psychically called out to war. “Primordial law of war? Conquer the universe? Haven’t you heard of the saying 'make love, not war’?” She took out a bow. On her other hand she held a pink arrow with a bubbly heart shaped hollow glass arrowhead. In the arrowhead a liquid was sloshing. Luna knocked the arrow and released it towards War.

War looked at the arrow approaching him and raised an eyebrow. He confidently taunted Luna “You're gonna miss.”

“I never miss…”

The arrow curved and shot into the undead mound and through it. It caught itself in Glauc's butt.

“...hope you like the gift from Aphrodite! Its her domain of love! I also put Dino’s beer domain together!”

As the domains merged within Glauc, the primordial energy in the undead mound also entered him and an explosive reaction made War and Min fly away.

Pink smoke covered the battlefield and as it slowly dispersed, a silhouette can be seen standing.

Glauc dusted himself, looked around at all the gods that were recently fighting and pointed both his middle fingers at them.

“Fuck you all!

I'M THE PRIMORDIAL LAW OF TITS AND WINE BITCHES!!!”
