《The fisher and the beast (Complete)》Ch1: What the fish

Idunn LLC, currently the most prestigious company in the world, gained it's fame when the Chief Executive Officer and major shareholder, a man commonly known simply as Glauc, ‘landed’ his hands on a miracle technology.
Many rumours were spread on the illegal or immoral ways he obtained the patent but Glauc nonchalantly dismissed the rumors to the press as simply the jealous gossips of other, much, much less successful companies.
The tech the company had obtained? The production and control of nanobots small enough to be injected into the bloodstream.
Once a swarm is injected inside the body, the nanobots will eradicate most harmful substances known by man through a myriad of ways. Not only that, the nanobots actions are meticulously controlled to minimize rejection by the body and curb side effects.
For those that could afford the installation and maintenance of such nanobots in their bodies, illness became a myth.
Cancer? What's that?
Deadly viruses? You mean harmless bug!
Poisons? Neutralized in no time.
Idunn LLC had basically became a company that owned a monopoly on eternal youth and all, no matter world leaders or rich tycoons, had to bow down if they wished to live forever...
In the top floor of a tower, in a rather small and sparsely furnished ocean view room, an interview for the position of assistant was being held.
"Boss, we should totally hire Jane. Just look at that.. profile. PhD in business, accounting and even computer science." A man whose muscles were still clearly evident despite wearing a full body suit was consulting with his boss. His dark sunglasses were unable to conceal the fact that he was ogling at one of the three women standing across the room.
He was whispering to a fat man seated in a black office chair. Of course, the suited man's intent was to get the well endowed lady to work for his boss. After all, he was simply a bodyguard and no matter how qualified or not the candidate was it did not affect his job at all. He simply wanted eye candy. And maybe he can get lucky with his boss' newly hired assistant.
The fat man chuckled and retorted "See Ryu, this is why you are just a lowly bodyguard while the great and wonderful me is your handsome boss.
She's too fat for me! Now look at Sheila! That's the one! Granted she failed her high school but look at that toned body!” Glauc lewdly looked at the lady in the middle. She gave him a seductive wink and he was doubly sure of his choice.
"You're the fat fuck! She's' THICC you stupid pig." Why a bodyguard could be so disrespectful to his employer was that the both of them were actually childhood friends, and they knew a little too much about each other's dirty secrets.
By this time, their whispers have gotten louder and the 3 applicants were trying their best not to show disgust on their face.
Sheila was actually smiling wryly. She was getting a lot more confident that she was going to land the job as the assistant to the C.E.O of a very prestigious tech company. Sure she might have to suck his dick and act dumb but in 5 years she was gonna take over that fat toad's job. In her mind she was already planning on him getting into an "accident", she simply had to make a few calls to her less savoury contacts. How such an incompetent man could reach his position was a mystery to all, even to Sheila who had been working in Idunn LLC for a long time…

One step at a time. She reminded herself not to get too distracted by the distant future. Sheila steeled her thoughts and prepared to impress.
She might not have passed high school but that was because of her parents untimely demise, an event that eventually forced her to take a job instead of continuing her study. She quickly rose through the job ladder, even becoming top manager in this ruthless company. This assistant position was merely a stepping stone to her rightful place as C.E.O. Maybe next she'll aim to be queen or president once she had all the power over life itself
In the corner, Ana never doubted that she made the right choice to apply for the company despite the lecherous behaviour being shown in front of her. Idunn LLC 'discovered' the medicinal equivalent of eternal youth. But in her mind the company was led astray. It charged outrageous prices that left the poor dying (albeit of natural causes) and the rich turning into ageless gods. She planned to infiltrate the ranks and slowly influence the leaders of the company; transforming it into one that will provide a treatment that is accessible to the rest of the less economically privileged world.
Also that bodyguard has a really, really sexy body...
And then there was a bright flash of light.
The brightness seemingly lasted for days as Ana was caught in a stupor and the next thing she knew, she and the occupants of that room found themselves in a lush forest by the lake.
Min was the goddess of lettuce. Also the goddess of life, but these days she preferred to grow lettuce. At least they don't try to overthrow or kill her like those...
She noticed one of the humans waking up and snapped out of her thoughts and boomed out as loudly and deeply as she could, which still sounded like a dying squeak of a squirrel caught in a trap, to her great displeasure.
"AHEM! BEHOLD MERE MORTALS!
You are in the presence of a goddess! Count your blessing for i have summoned thee for an epic that will be told for generations to come! Generations! To come!"
The goddess, a green eyed girl with very furry rabbit ears protruding out of her wavy blond hair was wearing a pink toga. She hovered about a meter from the ground in front of the currently bewildered group and immediately caught their attention.
"A great EVIL has descended upon our world and your aid has been requested to get rid of them. I’ve been told that in your world you have been referred to as the company of life. Which means you are perfect for solving our problem: the dead! More specifically the Undead! Uuuooooouuuooo~~"
She felt rather proud of adding that last bit of sound effect to make everything sound dramatic.
The group formerly in the office was stunned. Glauc was the only one able to whimper out after a moment’s thought, "Get rid of evil undead? What! But only Ryu can fight! The rest of us are useless in combat! I can barely climb the stairs! What do you want us to do with the undead? Poke em with a pen?”
Feeling smart for anticipating that the summoned earthlings would doubt their abilities against the dangers of the world, Min proudly put her hands on her hips and announced loudly, "Oh! Fear not little whelps! For I have blessed the group with powers to aid you in your glorious quest! I have been told that in your world that vidoo gams are very popular and have prepared visual aids similar to those found in them! Just focus on the word ‘status’ in your mind and you will be able to see the blessings the gods of Nugaia have bestowed upon you!"

Ryu quickly recovered and realised that he has been transported to a fantasy world like the many novels he had read. A group of humans transported into a game-like fantasy world. He was quite accepting of the idea and did not doubt Min at all. After all, he was suddenly in a forest and she was kind of floating around like a bug, something normal humans would be unable to do.
Even though his bodyguard job required him to be physically active, his hobby was always games and fantasy books and now the many nights he fantasized as a knight in shining armor or wizards shooting fireballs might actually come true to life.
Woo! Adventure! Harems! Monsters! Harems! And also... harems!
He thought hard on the word 'status', focusing on the sound of the words and after a while a flat, blue box materialised in front of him. He noticed writing slowly being scribbled on the surface and started reading it out loud.
STATUS
Ryudo Picklefarmer
Age: 38
Class: Lycanthrope
Blessed skills: Shapeshift
After reading it out he was filled with anticipation. He dreamily stared at the floating goddess before engaging in a series of rapid fire questions.
"Uhh... is that all? How much Hit Points do i have? And mana too. Also whats my Level? Do i have levels? Also what's' my STR or AGI or INT or WIS? Whats my Crit rate or Dodge rate?" Ryu barraged Min with questions that most RPG gamers instinctively needed to know. He had to take in as much information as he can before he could truly plan for this quest. Does he want to put his stats towards being a magician or archer? Such were the dilemma of a fantasy character...
"Yes." The goddess replied and disappeared in a puff of green smoke.
Min had never played a video game in all of her divinity and panicked when Ryu asked all those strange questions. She had left earth thousands of years ago when civilization was still technologically backwards. Some humans were still wiping their ass with leaves and only recently did Min learnt about the so called video games and even then she never paid them much attention.
She simply came up with the idea to use those game elements the humans were familiar with to make the summoned champions adapt more easily to the new world they were transported to. Mainly the status screens. Of course she only glanced at the games and never really played them or understood them. She was a goddess and was very very busy. Those lettuces were not going to grow themselves.
Everyone was focusing on their statuses when Glauc started laughing like a mad man.
"AGHAHAHAHH! Oh man!
Ryu, you are not gonna believe this. Focus on the blessed skill you have on the status box. Like stare at it real hard and stuff...heeheeheehe…."
Curious at his friend’s random outburst, Ryu focused his mind on the word 'Shapeshift' written on the blue box and another flat blue box appeared and overlapped on the status box. He read the contents of the newer ‘page’.
Shapeshift:
You can transform between your original human form and a werewolf. While in werewolf form you are stronger, faster and tougher. You also regenerate faster but you are allergic to silver. Very allergic. Please avoid silver. Even in human form. Silver bad.
-Note from Min, goddess of life-
I believe in your world you are commonly referred to as the 'wolf of wall street' and thus i have asked Luna to bless you with a skill that will reflect on your wolfish disposition.
Ryu blankly stared at the addendum as he realized that the goddess had mistaken Glauc’s description as belonging to him instead, thus giving the Lycanthrope skill to Ryu instead of to Glauc. Their skill sets had been swapped.
Curious, he still tried using the skill anyway and through a feeling in his gut was surprisingly able to activate it. The group could see him morph into a white werewolf over two meters tall. Glauc whistled out impressively at his bodyguard’s transformation.
While staring at his own newfound claws Ryu asked, albeit in a slightly rougher voice, "Glauc what fucking skill did you steal from me?
Actually screw that!
I can transform into a werewolf baby!
Rawr awooo~~!" He tried to howl, and if any wolves were nearby they would certainly disaprove and be rather insulted.
Glauc chuckled at Ryu. He was glad Ryu was bestowed with his powers instead. In his mind, the goddess had tasked them with fighting undead and being a werewolf meant you probably had to fight by clawing and biting at things up close. He imagined that they would probably not taste too good, especially raw.
He gestured to his own status box (which was actually invisible to everyone else) and said, "Check out the note she left about you;
[I believe in your world you are a heavyweight champion of something something and thus i have asked my mommy to bless you with a skill that will reflect on your heavy disposition.]
I bet she made the mistake because I'm fat. Heavyweight, hah! I would have been offended if she didn't gave me such a cool skill though…”
Ryu looked up and down at Glauc with suspicion and tried to guess his skill. "Uhh so she made you fat? You're already fat. I don't see the difference."
Glauc placed his hands on his hips proudly. "Nope. I got the skill [Gravity]"
"The fuck!” Ryu immediately spit out. “You got a magic skill? And gravity? That sounds like something a main character would get! You’re totally mob material! You’d be lucky to get a role as the random minion the hero smacks to get through to the villain! Gimme back my skill!! I wanna swap skills!"
Ryu jumped and tried to tackle Glauc but misjudged his newfound strength and actually leapt over ten meters into the air.
He landed in the lake nearby and the cold of the water penetrated into his bone. But in a second he immediately forgot the freezing sensation. His heart skipped a beat when he saw several shadows swimming underwater. Big fishes. With painfully obvious protruding sharp teeth. And he was pretty sure they were swimming towards him.
He manically splashed and swam towards the shore but his wet fur and claws made swimming harder than he was used to. Between gasps of air and swallowing water he shouted for help.
"Glauc cast your gravity magic and save me! They have fucking monsters in the water! HELP ME YOU SONOVABITCH!"
"I have absolutely no fucking idea how to cast a spell dude!" Glauc exclaimed as he made random hand gestures with no effect and finally giving up. He instead went after the longest tree vine on the ground that he could find and tossed it out towards Ryu after ensuring that it was still connected to a branch on a sturdy looking tree.
A lifetime of experience tossing fishing lines meant that Glauc was able to land the vine quite close to where Ryu was struggling.
Ryu grabbed it and Glauc tried to pull him ashore. Problem was, a werewolf was quite heavy and a wet one even worse. No matter how hard Glauc tried to pull Ryu got to shore at a dismal pace.
Along the way Ryu had gotten tangled up in some reeds while desperately pulling himself up on the vine and trying to tear apart the weeds stuck to him with his claws.
"AHH! I CAN'T BELIEVE IM’A DIE AT LEVEL ONE! THIS FUCKING WORLD BETTER HAVE RESPAWN *BLUGHEH* WHY IS THE WATER SOUR?! HELP ME!!!!"
Sheila ran towards where Glauc was and helped him pull at the vine. It was quite easy to grip as the vines had some round purple fruits growing at odds and ends which acted as pretty effective hand grips.
This was the weirdest interview she had ever been in. First the C.E.O had openly acted quite lecherously towards her and the other interviewees. Probably to test if they were the type to sue for sexual harassment? They probably passed that and some kind of virtual reality hologram was activated and there was some kind of bunny girl and the bodyguard became a werewolf and it fell into the water? Maybe a test for initiative and quick thinking? Calmness in weird situations?
Either way she will be the first to help rescue the random werewolf and get the job! For a hologram the vine was incredibly realistic though. She could feel it. The texture of the vine and the bumps and everything. She could even smell the fruits hanging out at certain ends. A sickly sweet smell. But it was purple and probably poisonous.
If it wasn't a hologram.
Of course.
By this time the fishes were swimming very close to Ryu. She could see their silhouettes in the water and they were really big. At least a meter and a half each. She guessed if she wanted to pass the interview the werewolf had to be saved? Why a werewolf though? Why not just a human. All that rendering of fur and stuff probably required quite a bit of computing power. Maybe it's to test if they were racist? Speciest? Rich people and their weird quirks...
Anyway she had to come up with an idea quick if she wanted to ace this test and hopefully place her above the rest of the interviewees. Not that there was much of a competition..
One of her rival was just crying hysterically to her self and the other was staring blankly at the air, as if she was reading an invisible book. Sheila would still try her hardest to stand out though, she reminded herself that those two buffoons were not the only interviewees. Many more were waiting outside the room.
Sheila von Blanc was not going to be a mere good secretary. She was going to be the best! And then get promoted to a C E fucking O. Somehow. And then she will get revenge on all those relatives that took advantage of her when her parents died. She was going to make them suffer. She will put their name on the banlist to the companies' medical treatment and watch them slowly rot of old age while the rest of the world stayed young. Their stolen wealth would not help them escape death. The ultimate punishment.
But now was not the time to fantasize about revenge. She had to pass the ridiculous test and she has no idea how she and Glauc could pull the werewolf up before the fishes get to it. Wait! Maybe this was also a test of courage? In that case all she had to do was 'sacrifice' herself to the fishes while the werewolf slowly waded to shore. She let go of the vine and started running towards the shore and took a leaping dive.
COLD! The water was cold! Wait. Were holograms this realistic?
A sudden realization hit upon Sheila as she gasped for air and looked at the monstrous fish swimming towards her.
Instinct and fear took over her and any thoughts of the interview instantly vanished. She started screaming and swimming to the shore and grabbed for the nearest thing to pull. Which happened to be Ryu.
He yelped as a patch of fur was torn off his back. "ARGH THE FISH ARE EATING ME!! HURRY UP AND PULL ME YOU FAT FUCK! THIS IS WHY I TOLD YOU TO JOIN ME IN THE GYM YOU LAZY PIECE OF SHIT! USE ALL YOUR STRENGTH DAMMNIT!! YOU WANNA FUCKING SOLO THIS WORLD WITHOUT ME? YOU’LL NEVER MAKE IT YOU PIECE OF SHIT SO YOU BETTER MAKE SURE I SURVIVE!"
His screaming was interrupted when he was suddenly punched in the face by Sheila.
You do not have to be faster than the fish, just faster than the guy next to you. Or werewolf.
The punch stunned Ryu for a second. It did not hurt at all thanks to his tough monster form but it just took him a moment to come up with the same genius idea as Sheila. He grabbed her and tossed her overhead easily, towards the directions of the fishes.
"GYAHAHHA thanks for being bait you stupid bitch hope you enjoy being a worm in your next life too!"
So much for chivalry.
Glauc looked at the two swimmers sabotaging each other and started to sigh. They were too slow. The fish was mere seconds away from them and they were still quite far from the shore. Judging by the size and number of monster fishes two human sized snack was definitely not enough to fill their bellies.
Glauc watched as the school of monstrous fish swam towards Ryu and Sheila, and then passed by them without a care.
By now the two of them had given up on holding on to the vine and started swimming frantically towards the shore with both their hands and feet, and claws.
Glauc stared wide eyed as the fishes began nibbling on the fruits on the vine.
Huh.
Guess they were herbivores.
He yanked on the vine and in a stroke of luck actually managed to pull ashore one of the fish still in the process of devouring a purple fruit. He then hit its head with a nearby rock a few times till it was dead. Just in case it would suddenly walk on land and bite him. You never know what these magical fishes could get up to.
"Guess dinner won't be a problem tonight."
The group huddled together for warmth as they discussed and tried to figure out what had recently happened.
"So that bitch, what's her name, Min? Yanked us out of our world?" Sheila punched a tree and screamed. "What the fuck! This is so unfair! There are billions on earth and I happened to get chosen?!"
"Uhh she is a goddess so i'm guessing it would not be a good idea to curse at her..." Glauc looked around nervously and tried to calm her down.
"Plus, our number one priority is to survive this jungle for now. So lets focus on that. Ladies, please tell us about your blessed skills so we can formulate a plan. I have a feeling we might need to use them skills a lot sooner than later."
"It says that I can summon 3 lettuce seeds a day..." Jane, eyes red from crying her heart out, managed to sob out. "The magic blue screen said that it's very effective against undead."
"Undead huh?" A very wet werewolf interjected. Amazingly the patch of fur that sheila ripped out from his back managed to fully regrow. "That's what the goddess told us to do right? Kill a bunch of undead or something?"
"Who gives a damn what she wants!" Sheila snapped her finger and a fist sized wisp of fire appeared.
"Also, i can control flames."
In an attempt to copy her, Glauc started to snap his fingers but nothing happened. "Sheila right? How the fuck did you do that? I'm snapping my fingers and no black holes or gravity wells or whatchamacallit are appearing."
Sheila glanced at the fire floating in the air above her hands. "Uhh i just think about a fire and it appears. I also seem to instinctively know that this is currently the biggest size i can cast. Part of the blessing i guess?"
"Instinct huh? Lemme see..." Glauc picked up a random stone from the ground and focused on it.
The group stared at him as he in turn stared at the rock for a few minutes.
Two minutes.
…
Maybe three...
"OOOHH! I think i made this rock heavier!"
Ryu snatched the stone from Glauc and balanced it on his claws. "Umm. This still feels quite light. You sure your magic worked?"
"Course it worked you ass! You just broke my concentration when you snatched it away from me, you idiot!" Of course, Glauc did not mention that maybe the rock felt heavier because he was tired of carrying it.
Nah. It was definitely his magic. Yup.
Magic.
...
Fuck, Glauc felt so useless at that moment.
At least he could catch fish for the group with the vine and purple fruits. He looked at Ana standing in the corner and asked her "So Ana, what kind of blessings did you get?"
Daughter to an influential lawyer, Ana had lived a relatively wealthy and cushy life. Problem was her brother was obviously the favourite child and got most of her parents' attention. Of course, they did not ignore her basic needs like food and education but anyone could see that they focused their attention on raising a perfect male heir. He always received the best education and anything he took a fancy to they would instantly splurge on him. That slight sibling envy molded her perception that all humans should receive equal treatment no matter the race, religion or gender. Especially gender. She was a feminist but not those annoying ones which only focused on the privileges a male received but run away when a male responsibility was handed to them. At least that's what she thought.
No, she would roll up her sleeves when the car broke down and fix it herself. She was smart and tenacious but unfortunately her sheltered lifestyle made her a little timid in the social aspect. Her father's asian heritage made him emphasize a lot on the concept of 'face'. This meant that she grew up to learn that the risk of 'losing face' for her family was a grave sin. She often vocally agreed with her peers' opinions even if they clashed with her own just to prevent herself as being seen as provocative or disagreeable.
She eventually hated how powerless she felt about changing the world until one day she saw that Idunn LLC was hiring a secretary. The company possessed the patent for a regenerative treatment that allowed a person to effectively gain eternal youth. Unless the person got into a deadly accident or caught a fast killing virus, that person could do the treatment indefinitely to prolong their lives.
Problem was the company charged outrageous prices for the treatments and that meant only the rich could afford it. This led to the elite being gods when compared to the poor. Ana wanted to get the job and hopefully convince the board to lower the price of the treatment so that everyone can afford it.
This was her chance to better the world! And it would bring pride to her family at the same time. Killing two birds with one stone.
She managed to convince her father to pull some strings to help with the application. It did not guarantee the job but helped tremendously. Out of the thousands of applicants she was the on top 300 choice. The CEO of the company was interviewing the applicants 3 at the time when the 'summoning' happened…
She read the status box floating in front of her...

Hello earthling! I am Maat, commonly referred to as the goddess of justice. I have asked Min for the pleasure of giving you my blessings! I did so because i have noticed the goodwill that resides in your heart and will be glad to have you as my hero! Pay attention to the skill 'Scale of the feather'. All your skills including the physical ones require you borrow magic from the scale. Unlike those blessed by Min and her friends, those who are blessed by me will not get stronger from slaying monsters or undead and absorbing their soul force. Instead, acts of justice and kindness will tip the balance in the scales of feather. The higher the feather is in the scale, the more powerful you will be. Use your powers wisely and spread my teachings upon this world!
P.S. Acts of evil will be judged accordingly. You represent me now and i will not allow you to tarnish my reputation.
During the commotion with the swimming werewolf and vegan fishes Ana was so absorbed in reading her status and skills that she did not pay attention to the commotion at all.
"Wow... so I'm a hero of justice?"
"Seriously Ana? A paladin?" Glauc inquired. "So, can you show us a holy magic?" He was secretly hoping she would be as inept as him at casting spells. It was lonely being the only useless one.
Misery loves company after all.
Ana formed a fist with her hand and closed her eye and she KNEW what to do. She started to glow and began chanting:
"One who is brighter than the stars. One more harmonious than the seasons. Buried in the hearts of man and gods. I pledge myself to justice and borrow the weight of thy scales to punish the evil and protect the weak. BANISH EVIL!"
A sphere of light grew out of her fist and it expanded to a radius of about a ten meters. Ana felt something in her body or soul leaving her as the spell was completed. She immediately realised that she would be unable to cast the spell again until whatever is in the scale of the feather is balanced. "I've still done too little good deeds huh? Looks like i won't be able to cast it again until i rescued a damsel in distress or something. Teehee~!"
In the corner, a certain werewolf was suddenly rolling around the ground. Smoke was rising out of his body. As a matter of fact his fur had all burnt away and he was screaming in agony. "GAH! Why did you cast the spell on me! You trying to kill me? Argh it burnsssss!!!"
"Oh my Maat! I'm so sorry! That spell was only supposed to work on undead and demons! I don't know what... Ahh..." Ana paused as she read the skill descriptions in her status box. "Oops. Teehee~!" Ana struck out her tongue and put her fist on her head in a cute pose. She then told Ryu about one of the blessed skills she received.
Monster bane
All your spells and attack deal additional damage to monsters.
-Note from Matt-
This world is full of monsters but they are not inherently evil. They are simply categorized as creatures that were cursed by Isfet or other gods and thus my spells might not be effective on them. This skill was created specifically to counter those cursed beings and will hopefully aid you in the fights against them..
"Teehee my canine balls! That really hurts! Thank Luna she made me really tough or that would have killed me!" the fur on Ryu had started growing back. If he were on earth he would definitely have been kidnapped by a bunch of jealous balding scientists and researched on.
"Uhh... I don't know if you should thank her yet..." Ana could not meet Ryu's eye as she apologetically said. "It seems you were cursed by her instead of being blessed. My [Monster Bane] skill deals additional damage to creatures cursed by the gods..."
"Cursed? No way! She gave me a really cool skill! Just because i can't cast up some mumbo jumbo light show doesn't mean i'm gonna act like some ingrate." Ryu defended Luna. Of course if he had known that Luna was simply annoyed at Min's insistence of blessing her 'wall street wolf hero' and cursed him instead with a werewolf-based-artifact in the world where only very very horny male and mostly gay werewolves exist on the surface, he would have vomited blood on the spot.
Luna was after all the patron god of the moon and nightly activities, and had a rather strong like for the forbidden and perverted acts done at night. She might be good friends with Min but she was generally not interested in the world of humans. She was at one point in time actually really into bestiality. Specifically furry mammals. Which made her their worst nightmares. After she was rejected by an alpha werewolf, she scornfully banished all the females into the moon and only allowed them to meet the males during a full moon so they can mate and do not go extinct. The male pups will be sent down to their packs once they stopped weaning. Unfortunately, in this world a full moon only happens in roughly twenty earth years or at Luna’s discretion so most canines were left without an outlet for their more primal desires. Which culminated in them learning interest in the same sex...
"One who is Min's mommy. One sexier than aphrodite or even that dancer from Madam Pleasure Spa House! I pledge myself to you and blow our enemies away. BLACK HOLE!" Glauc shouted with outstretched hands towards an empty part of the forest. A fruit fell off a tree but that was simply the wind. Glauc wished the earth would open up and swallow him at that moment as the rest of the group looked from the corner of their eyes and silently made fun of him.
"Guys, I'm thinking of going downstream. Hopefully we can find civilization." Ryu roughly coughed out. He was still in werewolf form but it made speaking a little strange. He did not turn back into his human form as he thought that the claws would definitely be useful in a fight. And the toughness.
Who knows what monsters lurk in the shadows.
"Sounds like a good idea. It'll also give us an idea of where we are. I'll stay here and set up a camp just in case. At least food will not be a problem." Glauc scrounged up a few more fruit vines. Maybe if he attached some branches he could make a makeshift hook. He always enjoyed fishing on earth and he would be pretty useless in a monster battle. "Also uhh Sheila right? Can you make a campfire with that magic of yours? It'll make spotting the camp easier when Ryu comes back from scouting. Plus, cooked magic fish is safer than raw. Probably."
"Yeah. No problem." Sheila snapped her finger and a wisp of fire appeared. She grabbed it like it was a physical item and tossed the flame at a nearby bunch of dead twigs. They caught on fire immediately. She also suddenly felt really hungry. "Ryu I'm coming with you but we should grab a bite first." She pointed at the fish that Glauc caught earlier.
Cooking the fish was quite simple. They simply stuck a branch through the fish and barbecued it. "Needs salt." Glauc complained. "I really hope you guys find civilization soon."
"Oh wow *chew* this fruit *chew* is really sweet!" Purple juice dripped out of Ryu's mouth. "And it's really juicy!"
The group stared as he grabbed a few more fruits from the vines and begin munching them.
"Dude why the fuck would you eat that! It might be poisonous!" Glauc screamed at Ryu. His childhood friend can really be an idiot sometimes.
"Nah them monster fishes ate them right? So it must be edible!"
The group expected Ryu to start vomiting or choking soon but luckily for Ryu the fruit was indeed edible. None of them wanted to touch it though. A purple fruit from a magical world somehow did not seem very appetising.
Ryu got up from the campfire and dusted himself. "Anyway we should start moving soon. Who knows when it'll get dark. Sheila's flame will be useful though. Ana you wanna join us? Could use a paladin in our adventuring party."
"Yeah sure. I wanna try out my skills. And again, sorry for attacking you with my magic before."
"Yeah that. You have any non area affecting magic? It really hurts you know..."
"Yeah I have quite a few but i can't cast anymore magic anyway. I'm like, out of mana, except that my mana is based on the good deeds i do. I'm sure I'll be useful in a fight though."
"Out of mana? Heh." Ryu chuckled. "What games you usually play?"
"Mostly RPGs. And surprise surprise paladins and priests are my favourite classes"
"Wow lucky you. I usually play a necromancer but i got a non mage class in this world. Actually what class are you Glauc?"
"Me? Don't have one. Just says that my blessed skill is [Gravity]. And my age. Doesn't even say my name. Wait a minute guys in the status box my stated age went up!" Glauc shouted. "Holy crap! Ryu, focus on the word ‘age’ in your status screen!"
Ryu summoned the status screen and focused on the word 'Age' and read the new information:
Age represents the accumulated experience of a soul. The older one gets the further the soul develops. Since every magic and skill depends on one's soul the older a being is the more powerful it becomes. I have made it so that killing another will transfer most of their age to you. Worry not! In this world you will not die of old age! Unlike the gods from your old world we do not plague mortals with diseases and artificial limits. However, if you are killed you will lose most of your age too so try not to die! Your soul will also be denied entry to Duat, Underworld, Heaven, Hell and so on as you are not of this world. Therefore you can only be resurrected after death or be forced to roam in an incorporeal form on this plane.

Some tragedies are coincidental but many more were engineered, countless turning points in history, manipulated by forces behind the scenes. Hiroshima and Nagasaki, an attempt to kill a powerful being. Chernobyl, a coverup. Those fenced-in seemingly abandoned areas urban explorers seem to go missing in, exclusion zones. even the deaths of Julius Ceasar and Genghis khan can be attributed to them. The beings responsible for these events aren't fully understood we simply call them, the Invaders.
