《The Shadow Paradigm - Book 1: Project Orb Weaver》Author's Note - A Little Update

Good afternoon everyone! Thank you first of all for the continued support on this story, I really am grateful.

It's been some time since none of you heard back from how my novel was doing, so I thought I would give you some updates about it, since the lack of Internet access prevents me from doing anything major.

So, many of you who knows me know how I don't listen to writing advice's in overly priced books. Many reasons:

- One: most of these advices are out of touch and disconnected with the actual wants and needs of readers.

- Two: Even books and writers who obey by those overly-priced writing advice's end up being hated by a portion of the readers, just like non-obedient writers and books.

- Three: Aesop, Saint-Exup¨¦ry and Tolstoy had no overly-priced books of how-to-write to rely on. Shakespeare, even less, and he has his fair share of hardcore fans and utter frustrated readers. Yet their works are both applauded and disliked based on who reads them.

So essentially... The moral of the story, for me, was: take care of grammar and the technical part of writing. Other than that, a story will always succumb to the whims of its readers, whether it abides by the overly-priced how-to books or not.

So what's my point? Well, the only thing that happened to work for me was to stop working on my novel for a good two months, maybe more. It was pure coincidence, actually. I was supposed to edit it, but so many things came along that I put it aside. And ultimately, not reading it and having its preconceived notions in my head, it made me think, a lot. About what kind of stories I wanted to put out there.

Sure, I love myself a good dark, sometime gritty and mature story. Heck, half of my favourite Japanese and Western shows are dark, gritty, and mature. So as such things happen, these influences slowly made their way through my stories, especially what I had begun to write lately, the P.I. Simeon Engels series.

But then... This walking away from my stories made me really think, especially with some changes happening to other people's stories that I used to love.

I personally witnessed two beloved science-fantasy shows go from being as much positive as they could try, showcasing messages of peace, making peace and diplomacy win against all odds, subtly referencing evil without ever pointing fingers and showing nonviolent ways out, to becoming pawns to political, and sociological-oriented agendas, with depression, prejudices, stereotypes, and sad themes always predominating, to fingers-pointing, and so forth.

And so, it made me think. My own stories weren't obviously to that level, but even the few moments that it could have been so... Do I really want to write that kind of stories? What do I miss the most? Well, I miss my old show from my childhood, and that old show that defined me five years ago. I miss their hope, their peace, their whimsical, their fantasy-more-than-scifi, their humour. I miss shows and stories like Neil Gaiman's, with Stardust and Good Omens. I miss good old Doctor Who with Tennant, Smith, Capaldi. I miss good old Star Trek: The Next Generation, when sometimes, whimsical episodes like Data's Day and Ship In A Bottle were more meaningful to me than the political-oriented stuff of modern Star Treks.

So I began mentally revising what I wrote for TSP Book 1, and I'm redoing a major rewrite. Many chapters will remain the same, but I'll bring a bigger focus on my heroes and their whimsical lives, and their fight against the opposing faction that tries to bridle that innocence, rather than bring it too doomsday-threat/political-heavy as it was. I want it to be more humourous, more lighthearted than it is. I think we all need a good dose of positivity, and plenty of people already do well those dark stories.

Also, I'll try to integrate a bit less of head-hopping, and try to add a bit more each characters' own perception of events. Of course, some chapters will still need my usual omniscient third-person view, but for a better ease of reading, I'll work hard to bring in more limited third-person views.

Already in the offline document, the second Prologue has been dropped, the first prologue has been upgraded with a more focused point of view and a short battle scene added to negate the use of too much omniscient explanations. Chapter 1 has been completely modified to be entirely from Robert Bohm's view; it also has been split in two to allow the subsequent meeting between him and Randall Redpsear to be from Randall's POV. And the heroes will be introduced in a much different fashion (and much less boring and info-dump) than before.

So, I hope to be able to edit the chapters here to match what is going on, but it might take A LOT of time.

So thank you all again for your patience and your support. I hope the eight revision will be finally the perfect one. XD

See you all later!
