《State of Flow》Chapter 9

When I wake up in the morning I head downstairs to turn my key back in, as I'm heading towards the owner I run into Auspious. “Morning you heading out as well?” “Yea I have some stuff to take care of then I'm gonna take some time to train my skills before the dive.” “Sounds good Drake told me to let you know to meet up at the main hall about fifteen minutes before noon, but I imagine you will be in the training room by then so it shouldn't be an issue. Either way see you then.” As he finished the update he turns and leaves. I continue on my way towards the owner and speak up when I get to him. “Hey here is the key, also do you happen to know where I can find a crafter who would be willing to buy some magical components?” “Thanks and I would recommend going to the plaza in front of the dungeon hall and asking around I don't have much use for such a person now would I.” “Fair enough I suppose, okay thanks for the help have a good one.” With that out of the way I leave I point myself towards the dungeon hall. As I'm walking I pick up some more street food again, as well as some for when I'm in the dungeon. Arriving at the area around the hall I ask a few random people for directions before I am pointed in the direction of a small shop in one of the side streets off of the main street named Benson's smithy. Walking up to the door I read a sign that says 'OPEN' so I shrug and push my way in and find a small shop front with some generic weapons behind glass and a counter with a bell. Seeing as there is no one currently around I press the bell and hear a response from the back behind a door. “I will be with you in just one moment.” Hearing that I get myself comfortable and look around and think about the skills I want to train later today. I think I should focus on my offensive skills and maybe one of the defensive ones, probably dodge since it synergizes with dexterity. Around the time I finish my training plans the door behind the counter opens letting a bunch of hot air come in followed by a tall man with goggles and a mask that he pulls down to speak. “Alright what are you looking for?” “I was actually looking to sell I magical Jackalope horn.” “Alright I'm listening, I guess you have an elemental one if you didn't just sell it to the hall?” “Yea it is a horn attuned to electricity at uncommon rank. I was wondering how much you would be willing to pay for such a thing?” After I finish my question he takes a moment to think before answering. “Well since electricity is always a sought after element I can offer around five gold depending on the condition, come on now take it out lets get a look at it.” Following his prompting I pull out the horn. Jackalope horn (uncommon) A small magical horn attuned with electricity. “Yup it is in pretty good condition, I also see you have a stasis module installed in your interface, either that or you butchered this fifteen minutes ago. Alright yea since its in good condition I can offer you five gold or you can trade it in for seven gold of goods.” Seeing as he's offering tools at a discount I should probably buy something. I look for daggers and find two different kinds, he has some general purpose daggers similar to what I am currently using, as well as some throwing specialized ones. And even among those two groups they are also divided between enchanted and unenchanted. What catches my eye are the enchanted throwing knives. “How much for the enchanted throwing knives?” “That depends of the enchantment, a simple wind enchantment to prevent it from be blown off course and adding a little more oomph will run you about two gold per, whereas something like this fireball throwing knife which explodes on contact will cost you around ten gold.” “Okay how much do the unenchanted throwing knives cost?” “Those only cost around five silver each.” “Alright I think I'll trade you that horn for two of the wind throwing daggers and six regular ones.” “Sounds good, pleasure doing business”. He says as he grabs the aforementioned knives and exchanges them for the horn, I give thanks and leave to start heading back toward the hall. Once I make my way into the hall I head towards the training rooms, entering I see drake pushing the dolls around with his shield, I walk up and say hi. “Hey you training some shield bash skill?” He turns and gives me a wave. “Yup its currently at level four, just trying to get it to a nice round five. What about yourself what skills are you here for?” “I am looking to get my offensive skills and dodge up to five as well.” “Funny you mention dodge I was planning on doing that once I was done with this skill but since you are here already wanna practice?” “Sure Wanna just do a fist fight to level it?” “Works for me, we might even get a pugilist skill for the fight.” I hadn't even thought of that, I suggested it because I realized I didn't have any non sharp weapons to use. “How do you want to do this.” I ask “How about we take turns throwing fists until you land a hit then we switch. Focus on dodging rather than countering, that work for you?” I give a shrug “Should be fine” “Alright then lets start.” So saying he puts his shield away and squares up, before throwing punch after punch that I'm barely able to dodge, it's not long before he lands a hit when he feinted a punch and I fell for the bait. Switching up I'm now on the offensive and I find it very difficult to land a hit. We kept at it for awhile and by the time we were done we both had a new skill as well as leveled dodge up to five. Dodge lvl 5^ (common) Increases speed and chance of avoiding damage while dodging. Punch lvl 3 (common) Increases speed and power of unarmed attacks. By the time we are finished we have both worked up a bit of a sweat. Drake excuses himself to grab some food while I get back to training, I start with the new throwing knives I also remember I forgot to identify them earlier I remedy that now. Throwing knife (common) This unremarkable knife was forged for throwing so it has excellent balance. Throwing knife (uncommon) This knife was enchanted to be more accurate and provide more power when throw. Starting with the enchanted ones I practice throwing them a bit before I hear a ding. I thought My dagger throwing was already at five so It should be leveling slowly. I decide to check on the skill. Throw lvl 2^ (common) Increases accuracy and power of thrown objects. Huh the knives don't count as dagger I guess then. At least this way I don't have to worry about buying a weapon for the sole purpose of leveling this skill. After this revelation I get back to practicing and checking the time I notice its already eleven thirty so I pack up and check on my gains. Throw lvl 5^ (common) Increases accuracy and power of thrown objects. Slash lvl 5^ (common) Increases speed of and power of slash attacks. stab lvl 3^ (common) Increases accuracy and power of stab attacks. Exhaustion resistance lvl 4^ (common) The ability to push past your limits and resist becoming tired This should be good enough for the dungeon. As I think this I head to the main hall to look for the party.
