《State of Flow》Chapter 8

As I walked outside I noticed how dark it was getting. “Guess I should find somewhere to spend the night then deal with the magical horn and then find another quest.” I walked down the main road for a few minutes before coming across a simple looking building with a sign that just read “Inn” Walking in I take a look around and notice the room is mostly filled with other adventurers by the look of everyone and their gear, spotting who I assumed to be the proprietor standing behind a counter overseeing the service of food while talking with someone who had walked up to him I get in line behind and wait a moment. “No I don't care if you can find a cheaper inn further away the price is static now pay for something or leave.” I catch the tail end of some conversation regarding the price of the rooms before the potential customer grumbles something and turns to leave. As he walks past a nod to the man behind the counter and begin talking. “I am looking for a room tonight as well as dinner, how much would that run me?” “Room for the night is one silver, and a meal will cost five copper.” I nod and pull the requisite coins from my inventory before passing them over. “Here is the key for the room, just find the room that matches the number and the letter represents the floor I'm sure you can find it. And take a seat someone will stop by to drop off some food for you if you need anything else you can see where to find me.” He seemed glad that I don't bother arguing over the price and just pay up. Looking at the key its labeled C 7 so I am assuming third floor seventh room, and I put the key in my inventory. Looking around the room I find a few empty seats and as I look around I am surprised to see a familiar face in the crowd. Walking up to the table and seeing an empty seat I ask if its available. “Hey Drake, long time no see, mind if I take a seat?” I say with a wave. “Well if it isn't Gloom, go right on ahead. We were all just talking about day one and strategizing for tomorrow.” Nodding I take a seat and ask a follow up question. “Sounds like a good idea, Mind introducing me to the 'we' ?” I ask as I take a look at the other's who are seated at the table. “Gotcha, well you know me already.” He says with a smile. “On my right here we have the resident healer.” He gestures to a man with short hair and a neatly trimmed beard who gives a short wave as I look at him. “The names Auspious.” He says before Drake moves on. “Next to him is a ranger.” Looking next over I find a man who looks very much like an elf from lord of the rings. “Going by Legos.” He says with a smirk. “Yea he is doing exactly what you think he is. Anyway the last of our rag tag group is another front liner like myself.” He gestures to a girl with a pixie cut and black hair wearing similar armor to Drake currently eating some kind of stew. “May” Is all she says before she goes back to eating. “And of course yourself a rogue with some magic.” He says while pointing at me. “Uh hey I'm Gloom” After I introduce myself Drake gets back to talking. “Anyway As I was saying, how was the first day for you all. Find anything useful or interesting?” As drake asks Auspious speaks up. “I found that to unlock healing magic you have to pledge yourself to one of the gods in order to unlock divine magic. I managed to get that sorted out with a donation of five gold, and I managed to level my divine magic so I have a healing spell as well as a shielding spell.” “Alright Auspious good job, what about you Legos you manage to find anyway to get that druid stuff you were looking for?” Drake asked after the cleric finished. “I haven't found anything as of yet, but I did manage to get my combat skills to level five, and I signed up for the guild. Drake nods as he continues. “Understandable as for myself I have also signed up for the guild and I figured out why they call it a dungeon hall.” As he finished that line he looked around to build suspense. “They build dungeon halls on top of dungeons with useful drops, the one under Beyford is also suitable for new adventurers. So as I imagine none of us have entered it yet.” As he said that he looked around, and was met by head shakes from us all. “That's what I figured, Anyways since none of us have been yet wanna be some of the first players in?” He asks with a grin. And looking around everyone else seems keen on entering. I ask a question. “Do you have info on the dungeon, and are there any requirements to enter or a fee?” I ask to drake. “There's no fee but you have to sign up at least a day in advance, and the first floor which is the only area suitable for our level is a large garden with magical plants and the monsters resemble things you would find in a garden. You clear the level by killing all the monsters and then you have to fight the Undead gardener, which is the first floor boss. I haven't managed to find much more out though, also yes I did reserve a dive slot for tomorrow at noon.” Okay that answers all my immediate questions regarding the dungeon. “Seeing as all of you look in agreement care for a dungeon delve tomorrow?” We all nod in agreement. “Good, so that was what I learned how about you gloom any big revelations?” I think for a moment before answering. “Yea I managed to do some quests as well as fought some monsters already. Most of what I fought were essentially fodder rabbits, but I also fought a large snake monster that managed to kill me.” When I said that they started paying attention. “The penalty for dying is that any progress you made in a skill since your last level is wiped as well as a one hour timer before you can log back in.” As I finish speaking Drake asks a follow up question. “That's good to know, how is your magic coming along?” “I actually haven't used it much, kind of figured it wouldn't help much in the fights I've had so far.” After I respond Drake nods. “That makes sense, may got any important info?” He looks over to her after speaking. “No I spent all day grinding skill levels up to five.” Drake just nods. “That will be good considering you are the tank.” He sys before continuing. “Well unless you all have anything else I am gonna be going to sleep, I have some prep to do tomorrow morning before we hit the dungeon.” Drake says before pushing his chair back and getting up and walking towards the door in the back of the building. “So uh how do you all know him?” I ask after he left. “He just kind of sat down and introduced himself as we” Legos gestures to himself and Auspious. “were talking, and he dragged her along with him. what about yourself?” “This morning we spawned in the same inn and we talked for a bit before separating.” I answer with a shrug. As I finish speaking may pipes up. “He kind of dragged me along after we met in the hall as I was finishing my training.” “Yea he seems like a very forward person, oh well I don't mind not having to sign up for the dungeon myself. Legos says with a shrug. “Anyway since that's done I'm heading to sleep too got to take care of some stuff in the morning as well.” As he finishes that he stands and walks towards the same door as Drake. “I must part as well, I'll see you here in the morning to set up a meeting before the dungeon.” Auspious says before likewise separating and leaving me with May. As we walks away the owner walks up and places a bowl of whatever may was eating before me before taking mays now empty bowl and heading back towards the kitchen. Before I can get on to any more chat or eating may nods to me pushing herself out of the chair and follows where everyone else went. I eat in silence before reviewing my combat skills. *Throw dagger lvl 5 ( Common) Increases accuracy and power of thrown objects. *Dexterity lvl 3 (Common) increases range of movement and reaction time as well as control over your body. Scorched - The Winter Winds (LitRPG)
Frank Ebner once wanted to save the world. Let the second one be better than the first. On Earth he was a student of... well it hardly matters anymore. It was dying, and he and the rest of his fellows and friends studying how to stave off the end graduated just in time to be told it was too late. That there was not enough time, funds, will, to stop it anymore. That the governments and the worthies of the world had moved from trying to stop it, to surviving the oncoming apocalypse, while blaming each other. That was a world Frank wanted nothing to do with. One riven by wars for places in the Archologies going up, and between them and the dying world they were leaving behind. So when a strange voice offered him a way out, to a world unmarred by the poison killing his? Frank took it. The voyage changed him, made him fit his new world, one of stats and magic. It came with perks, for in passing through their Heavens, they'd been exposed to Divinity, and taken some of the Celestial within them. Heroes now, but there are heroes, and there are Heroes. The nobility of the Empire care only for those who carry blessed bloodlines, and their time to adapt and train up for the new world is limited. Patrons are scarce among those like Frank, with only the base Hero perks, and magic studies expensive and lengthy. Often requiring heavy Oaths to gain the necessary aid to wield mana as a mage. Frank found another way. It nearly cost him his life. Now on the run and burned by the very magic he sought and craved, he is a pilgrim traveling to the The Eternal Tree, font of Perseverance. Frank hopes Ir-karlak will grant him some way to recover from the fires that scorched him. Without snuffing out the embers those fires lit within, for he has learned to harness them and he would not give up magic for the world. *** In the last 21 days, as I update this, I've managed about 18-19 updates. So Scorched should update most days, muse willing. She's fickle, sometimes. Not every day, but most. If there's an update for the day, it will be at 7PM, GMT+2. *[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Actually completed it. :) *
8 393Re:Mento Mori
When Ryuji, a disgruntled salaryman, is supposed to reach an unfortunate end, he is instead thrust into a new world, inhabiting a body that isn't his own. Forced into a world filled with strife and death, can he claim freedom and happiness? Or will his turbulent new life only lead to suffering and pain? As with every time-loop story written by an amateur author, this is heavily inspired by Re:Zero. If I had to explain my book, I would say imagine Re:Zero, but the main character can actually fight people instead of just getting merked every time he meets someone with a weapon. The themes of this story are dark, so be forewarned. This is my first story so keep that in mind while reading it.
