《Broken》chapter 1.4 Atlas

He was good with his hands but had never been good at art.
"You must be Lucius" Said the teacher with a smile.
"What gave it away. You must be Amber" Said Atlas.
"Nice to have you here, what is your gender?" Asked Amber. Atlas was caught off guard by this question. He had never had any person ask him. It was odd but he supposed it was to make a more comfortable environment for the kids.
"Attack helicopter" Replied Atlas. He had taken Levy's prefered identify.
"I won't have you making fun of things like that" She replied.
Atlas was surprised and didn't care what she thought anyway. Or what anyone thought for that matter.
"I don't care about what you think I'm making fun of. I am here to learn how to paint, and if you don't think attack helicopter is a real gender I will have you brought to court for imposing your beliefs on me" Said Atlas once again taking a seat in the back of the class.
A few students were giggling. Atlas noticed a girl with sunglasses like him. The paper on her desk had nothing but braille pages. She must have been blind.
"Choose a partner and take a seat next to them" Said Amber.
Atlas walked over to the girl he saw with the braille pages.
"Can I be your partner" Said Atlas.
"Nice to finally see you. You must be the new kid. Not to be rude but do you really you want to be partners with the blind girl on the first day? Thanks for the pity but I'm fine thank you" Said the girl.
"Why would I pity you? There's nothing wrong with you. I wanted to be your partner to see what kind of art you would create" Said Atlas.
"Fine, you can be my partner. Just don't get any ideas" Said the girl.
Atlas sat down and looked at her art. Each one of them was a finger painting but they all looked like a masterpiece. The colors were blended together in such a way it looked like it was meant to be. She was talented but didn't make anything specific. It was shapes, there was no specific object.
"What you make is beautiful" Said Atlas.
I know it is I can feel it
"I know you're just saying that" Said the girl with anger in her voice.
"I'm not here to make you happy I'm saying it because I think it's beautiful" Said Atlas. "I have an idea as long as it's fine with you"
"What is it?"
"I can guide your hand and you can paint. I will make a outline and you can draw it" Said Atlas.
"Fine but don't you dare think this means I need your help" Said the girl.
Atlas stood beside her and held her wrist. A slight hint of red crossed her face. Atlas could hear her heartbeat speed up. Atlas guided her hand across the canvas and by the time the class ended. The teacher looked at what they had created and was left speechless. People in the class began to get interested and walked over to see. Every single person was wide eyed.
"That's beautiful" Said the teacher.
The bell rang and Atlas walked out. Atlas knew he had only one class left and he hated it. But before he would endure that class he would have lunch with his sister. He walked to the cafeteria and got his food.

When he was walking back a large boy rammed into him. His food fell over the boy. Atlas fell over just barely conscious from the punch he had received. He felt his body dragged up to the face of the screaming boy. Atlas could feel the blood run down the side of his face. He felt another impact rip the air from his lungs and he knew ribs had been shattered.
Everyone stood by as this boy did this. Atlas could not hear what he was saying because of the buzzing in his head. He saw Levy charging towards him. He wanted to yell but nothing came out.
He saw her first break his skull. His body flew a few feet and hit the ground with a thick thud. Levy picked him up with a single arm and slammed his chest. Atlas could hear the boy's bones break. Levy tossed him like a rag doll. Atlas knew what she was capable of and if she hit him again he would die.
"Stop!" Yelled Atlas. His body burned like fire had cloaked it. He could feel his shattered ribs grind together with every breath.
Levy stood still for a moment and ran over to Atlas. She was in shock, she knew just how easily her baby brother could be hurt. But this was far more than he had taken in weeks.
"Shhhhh it's okay" Said Atlas attempting to calm his sister.
She was crying and holding him just a little too tight. He was in great pain put pretended he was fine. He knew if he showed just how damaged he was she might get upset. She held him up and he pulled out his phone. Every single person was looking at them. Atlas called the hospital and asked for two ambulances.
He worried Levy had killed the boy but his chest was still moving. With the technology the hospital had they would both be fine in a few days. Atlas walked to the ambulance and gave them a full diagnosis. Levy went along with him. Morrie was also in the vehicle. She had her notebook out and Atlas knew what she wanted to ask.
He enjoyed her undying will to learn. Atlas used sign language to tell her what he was feeling. He didn't feel sad or angry. He felt only annoyance at the loss of his food. He was hungry and had nothing to eat. Atlas was glad he didn't have to go to his physical education class. He didn't really know what he was feeling but guessed what feeling he would have felt. He spent the day with Levy, Morrie and Evelynn.
The police asked them a few questions and left. The boy had a history of violence and was on his last strike. Levy was let off with a warning due to the nature of the situation.
"I'm so sorry I should have been there and none of this would have happened" Levy was sniffling.
"For the last time you did nothing wrong" Said Atlas.
Atlas cared more about making her feel better than whether she had done the right thing or not. He cared about her more than he had ever cared about himself.
The last time he saw his mother she told him to take care of her. He promised to do so and would do everything in his limited power to keep the promise. Him mother gave him a few artifacts to help with that.

He created his own artifacts by using bits of his own mortal essence. Souls were real but not in the way you would expect. They were like a second body that exists in a realm known as the Void. They were tethered to your mortal body and would be placed in a location known as the Ethereal plain when you died. They were placed there by the Ark of Death. The only exceptions were the bodies of Lords. Lords were the most powerful of the Arks and would be placed inside the Parlovidiam.
Any and all beings who entered the Arks lost their immortal essence with the exception of five Ark groups. They would consume their soul and be one with it.
Atlas's essence could grow and heal which was something almost no other being could do. He and his siblings were all capable of this. His mother had been one of three beings with this ability until they were born.
Morrie kissed Atlas's cheek "I was told that kisses make you feel better"
"You know that isn't true right?" Replied Atlas.
"I know I just wanted to kiss you to see your reaction" Morrie was holding out her notebook with the words "Kiss Lucius, view reaction"
Levy narrowed her eyes at Morrie at she said this and grabbed hold of her brother's hand.
Atlas enjoyed Morrie's one of a kind attitude and felt like he could grow to care about her continued existence. At the moment he cared for her like a board game. He wouldn't care if it was gone but would prefer if it stayed so he could have something to pass the time with.
Atlas went back to school the next day and felt better. He walked to school with Morrie again got to his classes. History was the class he would be trapped in today. He had learned nearly all human history in a weekend with his mother. He didn't care much for it but it was good to know what the world you're living on is like.
"What can you all tell me about World War Four" Said the teacher.
Atlas waited for someone to lift their hand. He wanted to see just what the people here knew. He didn't think they would know much and he wasn't wrong.
"How about you" asked the teacher pointing at Atlas.
"It started over ideologies and ended with the loss of ten percent of the useable land on Earth" Said Atlas.
"Well that's a rather blunt perspective" Said the teacher.
"If you want the details I have a seven hundred page report on it. Feel free to read it it's called the Heart of war" Replied Atlas.
The book had been published anonymously but was looked at as one of, if not the most highly regarded books to read if you wanted to understand the reasons the war started.
"That very funny" Said the teacher
Atlas took a few steps forward but stopped when he notice the girl Aurora. He didn't know he had any classes with her. She looked as beautiful as always and seemed to be sleeping or resting her head.
"I have author's notes if you want to see them" Said Atlas walking over. He had written it on his phone. He showed the teacher and he seemed stunned.
"Well the only thing I want to ask is why you are in this class" Said the teacher.
"Because I have interest in learning from other perspectives". Atlas walked back to his seat and began to read.
He found it funny. He had more in common with his father's friends in terms of personality. His father wasn't afraid to tell any person he found attractive that he felt that way, but Logan was odd. He would ignore the girls he liked even if they liked him. But John simply didn't like anyone. Atlas could relate to that.
The teacher allowed Atlas to do absolutely nothing. Atlas was deep in thought and was wondering what had truly been the beginning of this universe. His mother had not given any information regarding this.
"Hey" Said a smooth soft voice. Atlas was surprised and turned.
"Remember me?" Asked the Aurora.
"Hello Aurora" Replied Atlas.
"How you feeling?" Aurora lifted on her toes as she spoke.
"Very well but I am guessing you didn't walk over her just to see if I was doing well" Atlas lied.
"Actually I did. My sister asked me to but I was going to ask the next time I saw you anyway" She looked away for just a split second.
She had an elegant blue dress and her hair was in a long braid. She was beautiful to a fault.
"Who is your sister?" Asked Atlas beginning to remove his glasses.
"Evelynn"
Atlas froze for a moment. He thought it had been a joke or a way of saying they were friends. He had heard Evelynn use it that way many times before. He could feel a slight increase in his heart rate. He had an enormous crush on Evelynn, and she had asked her own sister to check up on him. He felt it was a very kind gesture on her part to check on him for Evelynn. At least the idea was nice.
"Well maybe we could hang out during lunch" Said Atlas.
"That would be great" Aurora shifted on her heels.
The bell rang. It was a C-day which meant they had all their classes in one day.
Atlas eventually arrived at his least favorite class. He got his clothing for physical education on and walked to the gym. Levy immediately hugged him and picked him up.
"I missed you so much!" Levy was spinning him around. Atlas was already dizzy.
"Why would you? You saw me an hour ago"
"What am I not aloud to miss you?" Levy pouted and her beautiful grace bought the attention of others nearby.
Atlas pushed her away "It's fine to miss me just don't be so clingy"
Every guy was looking at him as if he had done some atrocious crime. Atlas was sitting right beside Levy.
A boy walked up to them and asked Levy "Why are you with him?"
Levy didn't quite understand what he meant. She thought what he meant was why she was sitting with him.
"Because he's adorable and I love him" Levy hugged Atlas.
The boy walked away and the teacher walked into the gym.
"Hey you must be Lucius. You don't have to do anything this month I got a note from your caretaker" Said the person.
Atlas didn't like how almost every person was looking at Levy. He sat on a bench while everyone else ran around. They were going to start weight training tomorrow.
When the day ended Atlas walked with Morrie to the library. The
All in all, it was an uneventful week.
