《Broken》chapter 1.3 Atlas

A fifteen story building with bulletproof windows and support beams all around that looked like old Roman architecture. It was a odd place.

"Where you from" Aurora brushed her earthy brown hair out of her face with a smile.

"Is this information in any way relevant?" Asked Atlas.

"Well no, but I just wanted to know a little about you"

"Well I'm from Earth"

"So that girl?" Aurora had a curious tone.

"What about her" Said Atlas adjusting his sunglasses.

Before she could say anything the bell rang and she lost her train of thought. Atlas walked over to the class he was meant to be in and the teacher looked at him.

"You must be Lucius" Said the teacher.

"What gave it away?" Replied Atlas.

The name tag he had made was a dead give away.

"Would you like to introduce yourself?"

Atlas knew this would be the perfect opportunity to explain a thing or two.

"Why yes I would" He replied.

He walked to the front of the class and said "My name is Lucius that is all."

He walked to the back of the class and sat down. He pulled a book out and began to read. Every single person began to murmur and soon after the teacher began to teach. She wrote down questions on the board and Atlas instantly solved them. He did this while reading. He didn't need to look at the paper to write.

"No sunglasses in class young man" Said the teacher.

Atlas already knew her name was Vivian Colson.

"I would really prefer not to take them off" Said Atlas.

"Well I'm sorry but it's the rules" Said Vivian. Atlas sighed and removed his glasses.

His eyes met with that of the teachers and she cringed. She opened her mouth as if to say something but only stepped back.

His eyes could be described as an abyss of flames. The golden fiery hue that looked like the first spark of hell. An ancient flame hungry for all. But that was when they were hidden behind his thick gray contact lenses that could block out a 10,000 watt spot light. He hid his face behind the book and began to read.

She got a kid to pass papers out but when the child saw Atlas's eyes she dropped the papers. She stepped away and Atlas knew she didn't like the look in his eyes. She reached down and picked up the papers. Atlas eventually got a piece of paper.

Math was far too easy for him. Almost any problem he was presented with he was able to solve in an instant. He was done with the hand out before anyone hand finished the first problem. He didn't say anything until at least ten minutes of class time passed. He didn't want to seem out of the ordinary. Atlas raised his hand and the teacher walked over.

"Do you have a question" Said Vivian.

"No I just wanted to know what to do after I finish" he replied.

She pick his paper up and looked at her answer sheet.

"Where is your work?" Asked Vivian.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean where is the work. How did you solve the problems?"

Atlas never had a need to show his work before. He was capable of the work and that was the end of the story.

"I did the work in my head"

"I need you to show your work so I know you did the work" Said Vivian.

"No thanks" Said Atlas. He continued to read his book until the teacher reached for it.

"You shouldn't do that," his eyes turned to hers "You don't know what you're getting yourself into".

She stepped back and walked to her seat. After that Atlas sat in the back of the class for about half an hour. A girl walked over to him. A girl with long crimson hair with light streaks of fiery yellow that cascaded down her shoulder to her belly button. Her soft emerald eyes rested on his for just a second. Her smile vanished.

"Your eyes are so cool" Said the girl with absolute amazement.

Atlas had never seen anyone react that way before. She seemed to actually be interested in his eyes. Morrie simply seemed captivated by them.

"You seem different and what do you want" Said Atlas.

She set down her paper and asked about the last math problem. Atlas wrote down the answer and explained what the steps were. She placed a chair beside him and got help until they checked all her work. All the other class work. Most of the boys tosses angry glances at him. Atlas couldn't tell but it was possible she was very pretty.

"My name is Scarlet by the way" Said the girl.

Atlas reached into his backpack and looked at the note cards Levy had made for him.

"My name is Lucius" Said Atlas.

"Thanks for helping me if you need any help finding your way around just ask me." Scarlet slid her fingers down a bright red braid.

Atlas didn't have a notecard for that but assumed "Thanks" was a good response.

He continued to read his book.

"Do you want to eat lunch with me and my friends?" Asked Scarlet brushing her long red hair.

"No thanks, I’m having lunch with my sister."

She nodded and walked back to her seat. A short time later the bell rang and he walked straight out of class. The teacher said nothing despite wanting to.

He walked to find Levy in the lunch area. Five minutes passed and hundreds of kids walked by and he could not see her. He sat at a lunch table alone and wondered how he would find her.

"Hey Atlas" Levy stood with a crowd of people looking at her.

She was beautiful to everyone except Atlas. To him she was more like a puppy with more strength than she knew what to do with. She hugged him and kissed his cheek.

"Get off your breath smells like strawberries and call me Lucius." Said Atlas

"I thought you liked strawberries?" Levy snagged another bite of her extravagant meal. She had opened her lunch before lunch as alway.

"I do but not when it's coming from your mouth"

Like… what does that even mean...

Several people nearby were at odds in their minds. Was this beautiful new girl dating this thin small boy with hellish eyes?

"Well what did you make me today" Levy sat down and opened her box pretending to be surprised.

She looked over the box of assorted foods. "You made me a chocolate muffin!" Levy started hugging Atlas.

He groaned and pushed her away. "Yes I did now eat it so you can stop talking" Said Atlas.

Why doesn't she understand… I ruin everything

He was attempting to eat his meal in peace but forgot how that was impossible with Levy around. He took a bit of his plain yogurt and toast. He never liked fancy food but Levy did.

“I love you" Levy chirped with chocolate in her mouth.

Atlas sighed “You're only saying that because I gave you food” he took a big bite of his food. He patted her head and stood up.

"Where are you going" Levy’s sad eyes made him tell.

"The library" He replied.

"No don't go" cried Levy dragging him back.

"Just hurry up and go with me" Said Atlas.

She stuffed her food into her face and followed Atlas. They walked to the library and Atlas saw just who he expected to see. She had her back to him and a pencil in her hand.

"Morrie" Said Atlas.

"Hello Lucius"

"This is Athena" Atlas presented Levy who instantly sat down beside Morrie.

"Nice to meet you" Levy reached out.

"Girls like you are the reason I'm invisible to guys, so stay around because I don't like being noticed" Morrie reached out with her sweater still covering her hand.

"I'm not a girl I'm an attack helicopter" Levy attempted to tickle Atlas.

"Athena that doesn't work on me" Said Atlas.

"It would if you would just give in. Come on, you try and tickle him" Levy was looking at Morrie.

"No thanks that seems a bit odd. We aren't that well acquainted any way" Morrie pulled out a notebook and a pen.

"More research?" Asked Atlas.

"Yes"

Levy stood and held Atlas waiting to see what they would be doing.

"What do you feel when you see this?" Morrie was holding a picture of a person that had been blown in half by a bomb. Their guts were hanging out and their eyes were popping out of the skull. Atlas fell back not because he was in any way affected, but Levy had fallen back.

"Help" Said Atlas unable to release himself from Levy's grip.

She soon let go and stood up. "Sorry I felt light headed"

She was never able to handle anything of that sort. It was in a way a weakness. The bell rang and the we're once again in a classroom. Atlas had been forced to take an art class. He was good with his hands but had never been good at art.
