《Age of Change》Chapter 13: Aprils time to shine

After a quick discussion we choose the two closest buildings to us. The building I choose had more sunlight going inside of it, whereas April choose the building where there was more shade in order to train her shadow leap skill. We bid each other adieu and went to our respectable buildings.

As I reached my building I felt a slight chill, but it was so small and unnoticeable that I almost thought that I was imagining things. Then I thought to myself "maybe I still wasn't ready to fight again, maybe I wasn't cut out for this, maybe I should let April do all the fighting from now on." The more I started to think the more I was psyching myself out and the more I started to let my fear of pain overrule me. My face started to get darker and darker as I let my thoughts run wild.

I didn't want to be a coward, I didn't want April to be fighting all by herself, and I didn't want to be taking care of all my life without accomplishing anything. The more I started to think along these lines the more resolve I started to build up. With my confidence going up my fear started to clash with it. A battle was going on in my head should I be a coward, or should I man up.

My body started trembling with my indecisiveness and a small tear started to trickle down my eyes. I thought back to this morning when I was looking down on the second-generation hedonist and I couldn't help but feel bitter about myself. At least the second-generation hedonist knew who they are and wouldn't stop until they got what they want. My body slowly stopped shaking when I thought of this and my grip on my club tightened. I didn't want to be useless and I won't be useless. If the hedonist could do all they can for what they want why couldn't I do the same.

I slowly closed my eyes and tilted my head towards the shy. I stayed there for three seconds before I truly let all my fear seep out of me. Then I slowly opened my eyes and took a deep breath I let it out just as slowly. I opened my mouth one more time and did a manly silent roar and with that I was ready.

I took one unsteady step, then one slightly more confident step and the third step had all my resolve and just like that I felt like a change man or a slightly less afraid man. As long as I wasn't too afraid I wasn't to choosy about the details.

As I got in the building complex there was an ordinary goblin looking at me with an ugly mug on its face. I silently smiled to it knowing that I was going to make it my b****. I looked at the club in my hands and dropped it I wasn't going to need it for this fight.

If I wasn't being cocky with confidence I would have noticed where my earlier chill came from, but it alluded me. As I dropped the club the thing scurried away.

When the club hit the floor, I got in a taekwondo-ish stance with my left leg in front and my right leg spaced back accordingly. My left arm was relaxed and my right arm slightly protecting my chest. In retrospect I wasn't that good at taekwondo and I wasn't that good at fighting, but I was planning on using the goblin as a living training doll, so it didn't matter.

I wanted to do a taunt with my arms like they do in the movies, but it would ruin the whole aesthetics of my stance. I slowly moved forward without coming out of my stance. The goblin looked at me waiting for me to get close enough to get clubbed. It started staring at me menacingly with a smug look on it face. I lost all my cockiness at the moment and knew to take the fight seriously.

When I got close enough for the goblin to lunge at me I stopped and stared right into its eyes. I wanted it to intimidate it into making the first move. The goblin wasn't having any of it. It stared back at me without blinking waiting just like me.

We stayed looking at each other for thirty seconds without doing anything. My legs were starting to burn from the inactivity. I wanted to move at this point, but I didn't want to make the first move. While I started to slightly focus on my pain the goblin sensed that I wasn't fully focused and lunged at me.

Usually the way the goblin attacked was by smashing the club down, but the goblin swung the club at me like it was doing a hook like punch. I was caught off guard, but I still had a good head on my shoulders. As I saw the club coming my way I didn't panic. The stance I was in gave me a lot of mobility and without the club in my hands I was going to use all of it.

I quickly jumped back and as soon as I landed I brought my left shoulder into my body leaving a small part of my back exposed. At the same time the club was homing in and homing in it did.

The blow landed on the exposed part of my back. I tried moving my body in the direction the club hit me in in order to lessen the impact. The plan was a slight success, but I was still hit. The impact made me lose my balance and with my balance gone my face was almost greeted by the floor. I put my right arm under me just in time to protect my face.

When I caught my bearings, I rolled out of the way just in case the goblin was going to attack me once again. While I was rolling I landed on the place the club landed on and I groaned. I didn't let the pain deter me and kept on rolling. When I was far enough to a place where I felt safe I got on my feet as fast as I could.

As I straightened myself out I saw the goblin was trying to steady itself. I guessed that swinging the club at me the way it did was something new it just learned and wasn't proficient at it yet. I waited for the goblin to steadie itself before we initiate round two. Â

When the goblin steadied itself, it pointed at me and started laughing. It was laughing so hard that it dropped the club from it's hand and started holding it stomach. I didn't know why it was laughing, but for some reason I felt crunchy. The longer the goblin laughed the worst my mood became. "Stop laughing and take this seriously" I yelled at it not knowing if it understood me or not. The goblin stopped laughing and looked at me like I had something on my face and started laughing again. The goblin fell to the floor and started rolling while still laughing at me.

"thbdf jdbfsf uejns jened" I felt so crunchy I spoke gibberish. When I had enough of the goblin I turned around and that was when I seen something that made my blood run cold.

.....

One building over.

"Stupid Jason he's still injured and acting like he doesn't need help. Hmph watch me ignore him when he calls me. Hmph getting me all mad in stuff." As I walked towards the building I started to calm down. I had to give Jason a piece of my mind when I see him after this.

When I reached the entrance to the building I put my bookbag and the club down. I opened the second zipper part of my bag to take out two daggers. The daggers were from the silver-shadow goblin we killed last time. I checked the dagger to see if the durability went down.

Sharp Dagger

Attack power: 17-20

Durability: 42(50)

Description: Small sharp but crude dagger made by the goblin race for the leaders of the shadow goblins.

The dagger had a bigger attack power than the clubs that Jason worked on. It made sense considering the fact that this was a drop item from a silver ranked goblin.

As I held the daggers in my hands I felt slightly uncomfortable. I hadn't used weapons to attack anything before three days ago. I was always taught that my body was the best weapon. Until know I would have agreed without a doubt, but from the goblins that I have fought so far, my attacks didn't do as much damage as I would like. The good thing was my body would eventually reach a level people couldn't imagine in the previous world. So, I took solace in the fact that I would endlessly improve until the day I die.

As I approached the building I evened out my breathing and took steady steps. From the first time I killed a goblin I started to get some apprehension and the best way for my anxiety to go away was to even out my breathing. I felt like for every breath I took some baggage was lifted off my shoulders and gave me strength to move on.

When I first stepped into the building my eyes hadn't adjusted yet, so I didn't see anything in front of me. When my eyes finally adjusted I saw two goblins side by side staring at me with murderous intent in their eyes. I discarded all my anxiety at this point. Nothing mattered other than finishing the two goblins off as efficiently as possible.

I took a deep breath and breathed out now I was ready for the fight. I took my first step then another until I started jogging towards them. They two goblins saw my actions and bolted towards me. As we were about to clash I looked under me to see that there were enough shadows around.

Both goblins smashed their clubs in my direction and I yelled [Shadow leap] in my head. As the club was coming closer and closer to my head I started to sink into the shadows just as fast. BOOM! BOOM! was all I heard when the club landed just where my head was a few nano-seconds ago. I was shaken up a bit by both the sounds and the hit. Even though it seems like I escaped unharmed It was far from the truth. I felt like some blood was congested in my chest.

I didn't escape out of the range of the attack fast enough. I guess Jason was sort of right I had to improve this kill and make it my own, but I would never tell him that he was right. I discarded my useless thoughts for the moment and breathed out relieving me of the pain in my chest.

While in the shadows I couldn't help but look down and all I saw was an endless amount of darkness and when I looked around me I was able to see up to five feet away from me and then an endless darkness surrounding that. It was slightly terrifying not knowing what was below me and what was surrounding me. I didn't think the skill would harm me would it? I shook of that thought, there was no need to think about something that I couldn't solve at the moment.

I finally focused my mind at the task I needed to do. I looked up to see the confused look on the goblins faces. They started to look around, but didn't find anything. As the goblins were starting to give up I took a step to go behind them. I accidently looked down when I took the step you wouldn't know how creepy it felt. I felt like I was about to walk off the top of a ten plus story building and when I took the step that would plunge me to my death I somehow stabilized and was able to walk. This wasn't the first time I used [shadow leap], but every time I took a step and looked down I felt like I was about to plummet to my death. That was a kink that I would have to solve in the future.

By the time I walked behind the two goblins I had two seconds left before [shadow leap] ended. I once again tightened my hands on the daggers. I took a step up and started walking up. I didn't know the physics behind what was happening, but I didn't care. After the first two steps I put power into my legs and exploded upwards.

As soon as I came out of the shadows I brought both of my daggers up and stabbed them on both sides of nameless goblins 's neck. The daggers easily sliced into its neck. I pulled the daggers out as fast as I stabbed them in. I quickly stabbed the goblins neck once more just in case the goblin would survive.

[Bleed is inflicted on goblin]

I took the daggers out of goblin A's neck and backed away. I would have gone back into the shadows again, but the skill had a thirty second cool down something that I had to find out the hard way. I kept backing up until I was in a safe distance and looked at the two goblins.

The goblin that I inflicted bleed on was holding its neck while the blood was seeping out. In the goblins dying breath, it looked at me with pure hatred in its eyes. As it died its eyes were wide open staring at me. I was slightly unnerved, but shook it off just as quick it was either them or me.

[Nameless goblin is dead]

The last goblin was looking at me with fear in its eyes which was far from the arrogance it had on its face earlier. I could sense that the goblin wanted to run, but it knew if it ran it would die faster.

We both became vigilant staring at each othe's every move. It felt like a cowboy standoff. Then we started circling around each other slowly but eventually getting closer. I broke the standoff and did a quick dash in the goblins direction.

While slightly caught off guard the goblin was unperturbed it brought up its club to block its heart. The goblin brought up the club just in time to protect its heart. My dagger landed on the club causing me to injure my wrist slightly. I was so focused on the task at hand causing the pain to go over my head.

The goblin was visibly relieved that it blocked my attack becoming slightly complacent. I guess it didn't register I its brain that I had two daggers. I let go of the dagger that was stuck in the club and used my other hand to slash at the goblins neck. Though complacent the goblin never let go of its vigilance and was prepared for my next attack.

By a hairs breath the goblin pulled its neck back causing the dagger to only nick its neck. The goblin trembled at its near-death experience and wanted to run away. I wasn't going to let that happened.
