《World Revisit》Chapter 2: The Judgment Test

"So, in other words, you're innocent because you have no memory, is that it?" "Well, I can't really help it, can I, mister Flynner?" Ravendell was sitting with the Observers and watched the battlefield between Flynner and the no-name girl that has been going on for around twenty minutes. Although not much progress has been made at all, it sure was entertaining for him to watch. Her daring attitude she displayed against Flynner delighted him, that's something he wasn't used to seeing. "Well, since we can't rely on your cooperation..." Flynner said. "I would like the opinions of the Observers on this case then." "Observers?" no-name muttered. A smirk appeared on Ravendell's face when he and the rest of the people who were watching, became visible to no-name's eyes. She sure did not see that coming. Besides Ravendell and Faye, there were five other people sitting there on the bench. One of them started to talk. "Well— I haven't sensed nor seen any restraints on her actions so in my eyes...she's telling the truth. What she believes to be the truth, to be more precise." "As Benston remarked, she may think she's telling the truth, but we can't prove whether her claim can be trusted. We also cannot ignore the fact that magic was most likely used for her sudden appearance in the West Mainer square without alerting our security system beforehand." "Yes, Ulthor, I'm highly certain magic was involved, but as of yet, too many questions remain unanswered...so how shall we deal with this case then?" Flynner asked in a rather demanding manner. One of Flynner's many talking habits that annoy Ravendell. Another man started opening his mouth now. "I would like to see a judgment test to have a better insight on her honesty." That's the typical reaction Ravendell expected to hear from Seltyr who always wants to implant fear to a person when the opportunity arises. "Judgement test? Are you sure you what to do something that outrageous?" Ulthor said. "A judgment test, eh? Not a bad idea for once," Flynner replied. "Does anyone disagree with this?" "It could help us to clarify our doubts," Benston said. The judgment test— I'm sort of responsible for this one... I didn't really think it would ever be needed. "No objection," Ravendell responded. No clear objection was made before Flynner continued. "Good. Well then miss no-name...for your innocence to be in a better light, we will need you to undergo the judgment test." "Which is? Since I need an explanation for everything..." "No explanation will be needed miss no-name. Please follow the escorts, they will show you further." As no-name followed the escorts, they went through a big portal and ended up at the front gate of the city. She was pleasantly surprised when she looked behind her. The place was filled with nature and high-quality architecture and when she looked above it seemed to be surrounded by some kind of magical barrier. The sight outside the city, however, wasn't as pleasant to see though. The land was mostly filled with sand, absolutely no buildings nor nature at sight. It looked like a deserted place to her, but she didn't have enough time to think further when one of the escorts started to talk to her. "Please wait right here," he said. The two escorts were standing at the end side of the gate now and looked each other in the eyes as some kind of signal. "Move the gate!" They both yelled almost perfectly synchronized as the gate started to slide forward. Once the position of the gate stood aligned with the magical shield, an opening was created. "You may pass through the gate miss no-name," the escort on her right told her. As she walked through the gate, she continued to look around, trying to understand what's going on. It's as if this city is the last one out there, she wondered. Once she stepped outside, the gate started to move again, causing the entrance through it to disappear. "Hey! What's the meaning behind this?!" The escorts completely ignored her reaction. "They have... locked me out?—" She stood puzzled in front of the gate hoping they would say something to her, but they didn't. As a few minutes passed by and glaring at the escorts started to become boring, she started thinking, "If I remember correctly, this is called the judgment test. They are probably observing my next move..." She started to kneel down on the floor. "But there is nothing I can do, right? It's completely empty here—" After letting out another sigh, No-name stood up again and started walking this time. She thought back at how Hyu Zefrick reacted on her entrance. "So what's your business?" is what she remembered him saying. She couldn't deny the possibility that she might be seen as some kind of spy, judging by how she was treated. It could mean that he suspected her to be from somewhere else, which meant there might have been other cities after all. She looked at the gate again, the escorts still ignoring her. "If this city doesn't let me in...I go to another one! Judgment test my ass, I don't want your judgment..." Walking on the sand was harder than it looked but it wasn't like she couldn't manage it. At least she felt a bit at peace, finally not having to listen to an annoying old man like Flynner. After having walked for a minute or three, a rumbling sound started to come from underneath as the ground started to shake. "Eh, an earthquake?" Losing her balance when the shaking intensified, something came out of the sands. Once lying on the ground, she caught sight of what appeared before her. Its size was more than enough to alarm all her senses which were screaming the same thing: danger. "Oh crap! WHAT IS THIS MONSTER?!" It looked mostly like a giant desert lizard or something. How big was it? Two or three buildings high? She couldn't think calmly so she couldn't tell. Having heard her scream, the creature immediately turned its head towards her direction and starting roaring so loudly that even parts of sands were blown away by it. She immediately began to run, resisting against something of that size was definitely not part of her plan. Running even faster now, she didn't dare to even look back. To fear of wasting just a second wasn't worth the curiosity. Some kind of blowing sound came from behind, and it didn't take long before she found out what it was, as a stream of sand directly clashed to her back and smashed her to the ground. The panic she now experienced, temporarily paralyzed her leg movement, so she decided to look behind now. For some reason the creature didn't move that much, so she instantly saw that as an opportunity to increase the distance between them. The blowing sound could be heard again, a sign of another attack. She decided to duck this time, but failed horribly and fell on her own now. The stream of sand didn't hit her, but it did fly over her head as it lasted for a minute for some reason. When she looked in front now, huge piles of sand were now there, blocking her way completely. She tried climbing over it but her hands and feet just couldn't find enough grip to do so. Looking back, now the creature started running towards her at full speed with its four legs. "No, no, no, dammit, dammit! Agh—" As she took her last breath, the creature leaped itself from the ground towards her with its mouth wide open. "AAAAHHHH!" Dust covered the attacked area now. Part of the creature was still visible and started retreating itself underground. Once the dust cleared up, they saw her body collapsed on the ground. As the Observers saw everything, Ravendell released a barrier with his right hand that he used to protect miss no-name from harm. "Escorts go retrieve her!" he said. "So she really doesn't know a thing." "Hyo Ravendell, we still don't know that for sure...it's only proven less likely that she's a threat." "It doesn't matter Flynner. I'm willing to trust her and take all the responsibility." "Hyo...what are your plans?" "I'm not sure yet—"

How The Weak Live
This was a rough draft. Quite a meh one. The newer version is These Games of Ours. ---------- Lucious is deserter among many, living by dagger and beggary. Argento’s thirst for knowledge is endless, as is his belly. Kora is the perfect soldier, yet her sword grows dull in monotony. Formally known as the Empire's legend, the Captain is now stuck in stagnation. The Gods, grown weary of human deeds, have decided to indulge themselves in a different way. -------------- THE 7 REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF Clichés shall be avoided like the cancerous tumors they are. The world shall not spread its pink butt cheeks for the main character’s convenience. No character shall be thinner than one slice of white American cheese. No female character shall serve to highlight how overpowered and fabulous the main character is. No villain shall serve to highlight how overpowered and fabulous the main characters are. Grammar laws shall be upheld sometimes. I, the author, swear not to be a prick. I, the author, swear not to go away without warning. If other LitRPGs are like Skyrim, then this is going to be a combination of Dark Souls and Total War. Don't expect action for the sake of action. Be warned, this is a slow novel. Read the reviews to see if this novel is a decent fit for you. Disclaimer: I do not own that gorgeous cover art.
